Belt or Chain?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've got conflicting reports on whether my engine is belt or chain driven.

It's a Spaceback 1.2Tsi 105hp/77kw,  November 2013 (63 plate).

If it's belt, can anyone tell me the interval for replacement, I've bought the car at 68,500 miles. Currently on 69,700 miles.

Apologies if it's been asked already but I did do a search and was getting non stop fabia and octavia returns even though I was in spaceback forum.

At that age its chain. The belt motors are from mid-2015 and they're just not quite as nice to drive as that lovely one you've got.

Thank you for your help, it's very much appreciated.

It's a nicer drive than my previous (mondeo) albeit a bit squeeky when going over bumps.

The only issue so far I've found is a temperamental fuel filler cap...

Takes a while to unlock using the key.

The squeaky front end was endemic amongst earlier Rapids.

Many many threads on here about it over the years, maybe even some cures for it.

Use the search function (top right of the page on the Windows version)

I cured it on my 2014 by trading it for a 2018 :)
