Superb MK3 2020 ACC/Front assist sensor "Sensor impaired
Thanks for the the replies guys,I read one post where the bloke said, have a go at taking the cover off, if it does break the clips, just order another cover, it's easier than taking a bumper off and refitting it, especially if your on your own, his post was from a few years ago, and said it cost £13 for a new cover, who knows how much now? And why change it from the pre face lift which was far easier? bloody sadists these designers 🤬 I'm dreading when stuff starts giving up the ghost on this car, front and rear led lights, info system screen, 101 sensors on the car, and most of the stuff you can't do yourself, so labour costs are a big part of the problem.

Superb MK3 2020 ACC/Front assist sensor "Sensor impaired
Hi there, after I'd posted the problem this morning, I found more help on this forum eventually. The answer believe or not was to clean the sensor on the rear view mirror that looks forward, which I always thought was to auto dip your main beam for oncoming traffic. I was a bit sceptical but went out to the car, started it and the warning triangle was still there, switched off and cleaned the small square translucent sensor started up again, went through the motion of switching on and off the ACC and the Front assist, it started working s went for a short drive and everything worked perfectly. I can't explain why that sensor should have anything to do with the ACC and Front assist. I'll have to find that post again, it was from about 4 years ago, one thing I did find was that the front centre of the grill is a separate piece and can be removed but I'd not like to try it ! Also not surprised about it being out of alignment with all the potholes and some pretty severe road humps. Thanks for the reply

Superb MK3 2020 ACC/Front assist sensor "Sensor impaired
Hi guys, quite a while since I've had to post something. Driving home yesterday and the Adaptive cruise control stopped working, got home and checked it out on the stalk and in the menu which gave a warning triangle saying "front assist not available" in the menu screen and on the dash, similarly the ACC said similarly "Sensor impaired". Checked on the web and this model year was a transition in 2020 so the sensor is behind the centre of the main grille, not behind the open grille below the reg plate. I did find a post for that on an older mk3 Superb Could be that the plug has worked loose or the unit has worked loose, I believe it is a Bosch unit, my problem is I can't access it through the top cover, took the two torx screws out it won't budge. The two in the photo with a "?" are rubber and won't come out, they may hold the plastic frame that the sensor fits in. The third one near the top of the main grille is a bung and can't see what it's for. Any ideas anyone? I'd like to take a look before running to a dealer to get it sorted Cheers Terry

17" wheel for Superb mk3 wanted
Hi all, the rim width I wasn't absolutely sure about, I'm 90% certain that they are 7J, but having another 2 new tyres fitted next Wednesday so will soon find out. The biggest problem is finding a second hand rim that is the correct rim width, raising the boot mat is not a problem, I'd just like a rim that is the same dimensions as the originals. I don't know how you guys feel about the Continental 5s if you have them but I never liked them from new, and now I've swapped front to rear, to even out the wear the rear is shocking, have 4mm on the rear and 5.5mm on the front, both have the correct amount of air in them, so that's why I'm ditching them for Avon ZV7s, I had 2 lots on my Honda tourer, brilliant wet weather tyre for the money, £119 each but buying 4 I get 20% off so roughly £95 each compared to £155 for the Contis, just don't feel safe with them especially on damp roads never mind wet!, bear in mind I'm an old fart, so don't fly about I just like to have confidence in my tyres. Thanks for all the info guys. Safe driving Terry

17" wheel for Superb mk3 wanted
Hi M, yes I'd already worked out that a deeper tyre i.e. 205/65 r16 is a far better fit than the 205/55 r16 supplied by Skoda with only 5mm increase in diameter than the skoda supplied which has 36mm decrease. I can't believe that's what Skoda imagined was a good idea, it's not the first time it's been brought up on the forums. I just preferred the idea of a correct sized spare tyre, I have 2 Contis' with about 5mm tread on them, they would still fit in the wheel well with only a 10mm packer under the floor. And no problems with cruise control, no speed or distance limits But thanks anyway M. Cheers Terry By the way data was from www.willtheyfit.com

17" wheel for Superb mk3 wanted
Hi all, I'm after a 17" wheel, steel or alloy as a spare for my mk3 Superb. I think the rim is a 7J I live in Sheffield so somewhere within 50miles would not be out of the way. I want to replace the 16" 205/55 R16 that they supplied, as new never been used would fit an Octavia as a full size spare, I'm fairly sure the PDC is the same 5x112. Cheers Terry

ECU light?
Hi Phoenixboy, my long term is 44mpg but I do a lot of short journeys with a weekly long trip, so not too bad. As for the Software fix for the 1.5tsi, there definately was one, it was rolled out early 2020 February according to Volkwagen. Mine is an early 2020 model and when I had the second service under my ownership I aked the dealership if it had had the update (even though had shown no serious kangarooing Thet told me that it had the updated software version when it left the factory. I think that the dealship are telling you porkies that your car which has the 1.5tsi, does not have an updated software available, just look at this: https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/new-cars/2020-03/volkswagen-announces-fix-for-15-tsi-engine-hesitation-issues/ If it had a service at a main dealer it would have been applied automatically. BTW the Manual cars suffered worse than the DSG models, so if yours is jerky I would say it needs the update. Maybe contact Skoda and ask them to verify the software upate version. Some dealerships were actually denying there was a problem right uo to the rollout of the update.

ECU light?
Yep the 1.5tsi is a cracking engine even in the Superb, the cold start use to be even worse prior to 2019 models, when they first came out in 2017 it was really bad for 'kangarooing' in cold weather, Mines a 2020 year so already had the software update to fix the problem, I don't really have any problem with jerkyness as I've learn't to apply the gas nice and staedy for the first minute, after that no hesitancy at all. My best long journy mpg is around 55-57 shorter journeys 45-50, not bad for a big car with a small engine. bloody E10 petrol dosen't help, tried a tank of E5 a while back and to be honest didn't improve the mpg that much, and didn't seem any more responsive, so not worth the extra for me, I would have bought the Octavia, but my Superb came up for sale with 74 miles on the clock @ 1 year old, good old Covid 19, some good came out of it after all. Cheers Terry

ECU light?
Hi, I have the 1.5tsi engine, since I have had the car I get very occasional EPC (I think we are talking about the same light, 'Engine symbol') light staying on after startup, If I switch the engine off and restart it goes off, I mentioned it to the service department during the last service and they said they could find no fault codes and not to worry. I personally think that with so many sensors on modern cars and sometimes the software that the ECU/EPC use is a bit flakey, so yes I don't worry. I've had the Stop/Start warning on startup saying it is not functioning, switch off and back on and there is no problem. However if the EPC light came on while driving, then I would be concerned and pop into the dealer to check for any fault codes. By the way some cheap code readers don't always pick up all the codes that are available to specific manufacturers equipment.

Infotainment system and traffic announcements
Hi PetrolDave, Thanks for the response, being an old fogey I don't often listen to the FM stations, too many advertisements and inane chatter. So as long as the FM setting for auto location and TP is 'On' I can listen to my Pink Floyd etc and not get stuck in a 2 mile long queue. Cheers Terry

Infotainment system and traffic announcements
Had a look on the forums and not found an answer to this question, I have the Bolero in my 2020 Superb, I normally listen to my own music from the SD card, but am doing a long trip down the A17 where I know there are some serious delays at Sutton bridge until July. If you have TP (traffic announcements) switched on the FM radio but are listening to mp3s on the SD card will the FM annoucements still interrput to tell you of delays? if they indicated long delays I would take a detour, otherwise not bother.

Owners handbook - specifications
Wish I had that kind of luck, my wife had a Rover 75 for about 12 years and a couple of the headlight bulbs were a pig to get to, you had to have fingers that were about 6 inches long. Sorry, I've just realised I didn't put the link for the video on the last post, here it is:
-
Owners handbook - specifications
Hi Xman, not on my 2020 Superb SE, it has a mix of filament and led lights, the only filament bulb on the front is the indicator a PY24W not that easy to get out, the rear filaments are indicators, PY21W cheap, and reversing lights, P21W also cheap, and both easy to get out. And as to edbostan and his original question H7 or H4, I think you'll find this useful, a youtube video on changing both headlight bulbs main and full beam, they both look like H7s, as they have 2 terminals, the H4 has 3 terminals as they have dipped and main beam in the same bulb Watchthe video and make you choice, hope this helps. Cheers Terry or Victor or Deedah

Owners handbook - specifications
Hi Xman, if the owners handbook is "not a maintenance manual" why does it tell you how to check fluid levels and top up, or how to change some of the bulbs? are these not maintenance items? The point I was making is that the information is limited As for the bulb fnders go to the first one you suggest and put my car in, a 2020 Superb SE and find the front indicator, while your at it try powerbulbs.com or Halfords or eurocarparts.com, all popular listings when entering "car bulbs" in any search engine. I did phone the dealer and get a part number but he would not divulge the bulb type, and if you put that part number in it kept taking me to any number of Skoda dealers who all want to take £38 pound off you, they might as well wear striped jerseys and a mask. I eventually found it because of the distinctive shape of the bulb, and verified it as the correct one because that particular bulb (PY24W) was developed by Philips and I went to their website which you list, but is not everyones first port of call, and it did confirm my car as being able to use that bulb.

Owners handbook - specifications
Ah, someone agrees with me that the owners handbook is woefully inadequate, they appear to be more interested in telling you how the radio and sat nav works or how to change the battery in the removable led torch, I'm surprised they think we are capable of checking the Oil, brake fluid and water levels. I am very dissapointed with my first Skoda in this respect, to have to scour the web or even go to a main dealer to beg for the ispare bulb information is ludicrous. I know that with so many different specs and variations for the cars that come out of the factory, different tyre and wheel sizes, lighting configurations, even engine oil specs, it would not take much to place something in the glove box with this type of information as the vehicle comes off the production line, after all they have a build sheet for every individual vehicle produced by a computer. They ought to rename the owners manual to "Skoda for Dummies" because that's the kind of patronising attitude they have, probably instigated by Volkswagen. I tried in vain to get the front indicator type from the main dealer, who would only give me the Skoda part number, when I had a phone conversation with the guy he said he didn't know the bulb type only the part number and the cost, sit down for this one, £38 for one bulb, I did eventually find that the bulb in question is a PY24W. what were Skoda thinking? it's a sodding halogen that consumes 24 watts and costs about £18 off the internet, okay half the price of Skodas dealer price, but around 3-4 times the price of a PY21W that they fit to the rear indicators. Stupid Stupid Stupid. When one does fail I shall buy a pair of canbus led PY24W, they fit the same, probably last 5 times as long, only consume 7 watts and cost aroud £12 for two. Okay rant over, wife says I need to change my name by deed poll to Victor Meldrew, I don't believe it.

Owners handbook - specifications
The place was a motor supermart type, 100's of cars for sale and they did the service, basically an oil and filter change, so Skoda will have no record of the 1st service, it's no big deal as by law they have to honour it as part of the warranty conditions, makes a big difference to some buyers when they see a stamped book.

Owners handbook - specifications
Late reply been busy, foud an invoice from the dealer I bought the car from, plates, screenwash, oil and filter etc, they did the oil and filter change with 4.3 litres of Fuchs 5w30 XTR (high quality oil by all accounts) I think the cars original Skoda service book has gone west, it's got a generic one with the dealers stamp and date. Thanks guys

Filament bulb replacements
There are so many variations on the lights especially on the front, Halogen, Bi Xenon, LED, Matrix LED, and that's just the headlights. Mine has LED headlights (low functionality), LED front fogs, LED DRL, and filament indicators. Rear has LED Tail, Brake, Fogs and number plate lights, and two filament Indicator and Reverse lights Lot of variation out there as I have seen models with LED indicators and reverse lights I've mentioned on other posts I've made that I'm not impressed with the owner manual as regards specification information. My previous car was a Honda Accord Tourer, and the owners handbook was exceptional. Every item that was within the capability of a reasonably competent driver was listed along with it's OEM part code, such as the oil specification, bulbs PY21W etc, wheel and tyre size alternatives, fluid level quantities, etc, etc. Not sure if this is a Skoda thing or is part of the VAG mindset? Anyway thanks Bubib5

Filament bulb replacements
Hi Bubib5, yes it does semm strange that a 2020 model has filament bulbs at all, even if they were bulb type sockets LEDS would seem the logical way to go for longer life and lower power consumption, 'Simply not clever' The front indicators are definately filament amber glass, and , I will see if I can get to it so I can double check the type, it looks like a Philips PSY19W In the owners manual it shows the same bulb type, but says to pull the bulb straight out of the holder, as normal for Skoda they skimp on specific bulb codes as if it is some secret that only Skoda should know about, very very annoying. I see from your profile you're from Croatia, so it may be that the UK spec for an SE is lower, is your Superb an SE L or an L&K ? Anyway I won't know unless I actually take it out, or ask my local Skoda dealer, they may actually tell me! Cheers Terry

Locking Wheel Nut
Hi Noms, the steel wire hook in the spare wheel tray is used for (besides other things) removing the plastic cover on the rear tail light cluster to get to the two torx screws, there is a small hole in the cover which the tool hooks into, insert the tool and pull towards the boot lock, It will unclip from the cluster revealing the two torx screws. BTW I thought it was for removing the plastic wheel nut covers untill I saw the plastic tongs in the spare wheel tray, DOH! Cheers Terry

Filament bulb replacements
Hi all, Skoda Superb hatch mk3 2020 model. Can anyone confirm the bulb types? Not had the car long and was sorting out what I need to keep in the boot for emergencies, you know, things like Hi Vis jackets, air compressor, small first aid kit, etc, etc, I have also always kept some bulbs in the car at least one of each of the headlight, brake light, tail light, front and rear indicator, as a minimum. Most of the lights on the car are LED, except for the front and rear indicators, and reversing lights. I can see that even without taking the rear unit out ( I need to buy a T30 Torx bit) The reverse light looks like a P21W / 382 bayonet straight pins. The rear indicator bulb looks like either a PY21W / 581 bayyonet offset pins. The front indicator bulb looks like a WY21W / 585 wedge type. (and look a pain to get to) I don't think there are any other filament bulbs, especially exterior, the reg plate light looks like an LED so are the brake and fog lights. Can't understand why the're not all LED! Any other helpful info would be gratefully appreciated

Tomtom Sat nav on a Bolero screen
I'll give it a go offline, when I've pulled up Google maps on my phone it had the whole of Britain on, but zooming in to Lowestoft only showed boundary lines until I switched on wifi, It was as if it refreshed the whole map, however I did a bit of checking and it looks like having mobile data switched on whilst using sat nav is not that greedy especially on google maps, about 0.7Mb per 10miles or 0.75Mb per 20 minutes, so in effect a trip to my brother in laws 360 miles or 7 hours there and back it would use about 25Mb, at that kind of usage I could do 80 round trips a month. What I would do of course is not rely on someone on the web saying these are the figures, next trip out somewhere I'll use the phone, then logon to O2 and check how much it's actually used. Looking promising at the moment, and the Tomtom will be a good backup, until they stop supporting it, it has lifetime map updates but only until they stop support on that model. Plus I have a Garmin that is lurking in a drawer somewhere, which is possible to get free updates off the web. I know that certain Android 11 phones have 'Android Auto WiFi' but the cars app has to be 'Android Auto WiFi' as well, it's the price we have to pay for the ever changing technolgy out there. Thanks for your help on this Cheers Terry

Tomtom Sat nav on a Bolero screen
Hi again, I've just come back inside after syncing the Android Auto to my phone, the map came up automatically so a good a start. I will try using it offline, i.e. no data usage, no satellites, and I'll probably use it in tandem with the Tomtom the first time I use it to see how they compare. I always put it on for our regular trips to the brother-in-laws in Lowestoft, I know the route like the back of my hand, but I often forget about some of the speed cameras. I Hope you don't mind me picking your brains on the google maps. Can you use it offline or do you need to be connected to the web for positioning. Will it only work when connected via usb, or will bluetooth or wifi work? Cheers Terry

Tomtom Sat nav on a Bolero screen
Hi, I'll try the Android route and see what the maps are like, I've used google maps on the pc but not for navigating round the streets. I'll have to try it on something like a motorway where the Tomtom lane assist tells you which lane to get in, invaluable on a motorway which you are unfamiliar with. Of course Tomtoms have a plethora of other useful bits, speed cameras, petrol stations, nearest hospital in case you crash while looking at your sat nav. I'm not sure what google maps capabilities are, I'll give it a try this week. Cheers Terry
