  1. Cheers Darrell, Does anyone know what's involved in the Shark Stage 2? i.e. is it just £499 for stock to stage two or do you have to pay for both the stage 1 and stage 2 and is an tinkering require e.g. new filters or hoses?
  2. Any recommendations or personal experiences? Looking for good value and reliability and close to Stockport. Must be no more than 25% BHP gain for insurance purposes (no limit on increased torque). Superchips is the current front runner: http://www.superchips.co.uk/search?make=33&fueltype=2&model=142&variant=2119
  3. Hi all, anyone know what the strange symbol is on my maxi dot display? It doen't seem to eb mentioned in teh manual, but it looks like a " O " with a " / " through it. It's only visible when the mpg or average speed are being displayed. Cheers
  4. Just ordered the space-saver, tools a boot liner and shiny new mats... TPS has come up trumps as usual. Undercutting both Skoda and fleabay J Looking at the service history, I presume it’s on a <20k service interval. Does that sound right and how much should I be expecting to fork out for the next service?
  5. They've been holding their value surprising well... real for replacement are 'asking' £5.5-6k private and £6-6.5k dealer... I'd be happy with £5.5k.
  6. Thanks for the replies. Actual replacement cost would be somewhere between £5.5k and £6.5k The car was Fabia VRS SE, excellent condition (not so much post crash), 82K miles. FSH, I owner... From the advance valuation from glass (where you add mileage and spec): The private valuation is £4600 and retail is £5500. So the insurance company have offered us the private sale value. However, we think £5.5k seems to be a 'fair' price to be based on what's actually available on the market, the Glass's valuation, what we insured it at (although irrelevant for write-off purposes apparently) and what the FO's guidance says. So I suppose the question is are we being realistic?
  7. Thanks both, bit more digging and found an older thread on here. Yep it's the space saver option. Cheers, Adam
  8. Sadly my dearly departed Fabia VRS SE is in a recovery yard somewhere in Scotland. Fortunately I now have a bigger, better, bluer octavia sat on my drive. I've gone for the 2010 FL manual diesel. it's got just over 40k on the clock and the columbus satnav/radio and rear parking sensors. What do I need to know / check / start saving up for? My first question is...It doesn't have a spare wheel, looking on skoda parts, it seems to be a space saver (either a 15 or 16 inch rim) have I got the right part? Or is there a full size option available? http://www.skodaparts.com/product/octavia-spare-wheel-vrs-l-k-scout-2004-2013-31586 Thanks in advance
  9. Any view's on what constitutes market value for a vehicle. The The F.O. State "Of course there can be genuine debates about what represents a fair market value. Our starting point is to consider the approach the firm has taken. We would expect it to have consulted the normal trade guides and to have allowed for any difference from the norm in the car's mileage or condition. In most cases, the firm should have assessed the market value as equivalent to the "guide retail price"(the price that a member of the public might reasonably expect to pay at a dealership). Sometimes the firm will argue that it would be fairer to use the "guide trade value" (the price that a motor trader might pay). Normally this will be less than the market price that the policyholder will have to pay to replace the car. However, the trade value may be a useful indicator where the car was not in "guide retail" condition or where there is evidence that the customer intended to buy a replacement privately." ( http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/ombudsman-news/22/issue-22-motorinsurance.htm ) So far, our insurance company has offered us £4550 (Starting offer was £4450). They state they use Glass's as their trade guide, so based on the prices below from Glass's and Autotrader we're assuming a fair price for the vehicle is between £5.5k and £7k. (dependant on condition and mileage). Are we being realistic? Trade in: £2,770.00 to £3,970.00 Private: £4,600.00 to £6,100.00 Dealer: £5,500.00 to £6,980.00 Auto trader: £6,300-7,500
  10. Now that my poor little Fabia VRS SE has been written off, I'm after a replacement. The preferred option is looking like a 1-3 year old diesel Mk II Octavia VRS. Possibly a Blackline edition if I can find one in budget. What do I need to know / look out for? I saw on some other posts the FL engine mentioned. Is that another deisel variant, if so what's the difference? Thanks in advance
  11. Thanks all. Just had the Front lower arms and the rear bushes replaced... much better :-)

  13. Hi Guys My Fabia just failed its MOT on Front suspension arm bushes. The guy at the test centre mentioned it was a common problem on VAG models due to poor bush design, and that there was an upgrade availble. Does anyone happen to know if this is true, and if so what the various part numbers are please?
  14. Can my local mechanic get the code from the ecu, or is it a trip to skoda? (no sign of radio code in any of the manuals sadly)
