  1. Great info guys, I guess it's all trial and error. Looking forward to having some fun in the snow!
  2. How to drive off road I have a 170 4x4 and was reading the manual on off road settings and wondered about other owners thoughts and experiences. My understanding is the rear kicks in after the front slips significantly and you need to keep the power on, backing off disengages the rear. The off road button limits power to slipping wheels so I suppose this would have the same effect disengaging the rear. I would have thought the best approach is traction control off and give it some wellie and don’t back off. While this might be a good approach on a steep hill I’m not sure how it should be driven in snow for example. It would be good to get some input here. It is worth noting I have had 3 range rovers, Jeeps, Nissan 4wd all low range mainly for getting boats off a beach so I do have a good knowledge of “off Roading” I’m trying to understand how the system works.
  3. Hi , I really don't know, I'm on 70k but only bought it 3 months ago. Could have failed last year or 5 years ago hence the suggestion to check your 4wd is working. Cheers.
  4. Hi, Indeed that would have been my preferred method if the pump worked! Got there in the end with the screw levered off one of the filter cap bolts screwed half way back in.
  5. As promised quite update on my 4wd issues. Changed the pump, oil and filter myself , took about 2 hours, fiddly but straight forward. Hardest part was removing the filter hence the screw for leverage. Oil was grey / black full of small black particles. Pump didn't work and blocked. Filter absolutely stuffed with gunge. Moral of the story is 1: Check your rear drive kicks in, traction off and boot it on wet grass. and ..2: If you book it in for a service and have the Haldex oil changed make sure the filter is done too as many inc VW say the filter doesn't exist ( Mine is my 12 Haldex get 4, maybe different on later models ). What a difference car feels amazing and is ready for winter, surprisingly capable off road! Hope this helps someone as I ponder how many are driving a 4x4 in only 2wd like I was, same unit across the range Skoda, VW, Audi etc. A quick check will potentially avoid finding out your 4wd doesn't work when you need it!
  6. ...Only those who know , know. ... and what other car would he have!
  7. Hi, I'm hoping to reclaim the costs from the warranty if I do it myself or have my local trusted garage do it. For the sake of an extra £100 I can have a new pump. Any squabbling from the warranty company and I'll certainly start by cleaning pump and replacing oil and filter. Will update. Cheers.
  8. Hi, I'm a bit new to this, thought it said in the profile, It's a my 12 170 4x4 Elegance, Deffo generation 4 Haldex, had a look at it. Cheers
  9. Thanks for the replies and input guys, I think the safest option is a new pump, oil and filter. Should be good for a while then. Having only bought it a few months back it could have been like this for years!
  10. Many thanks ejstubbs for your lengthy and informative reply. I have had a look at torque pro and will give it some more consideration. I have 70k on the car and inclined to get a replacement pump and filter kit. The oil only was replaced 6 years ago so I'm assuming it's well gummed up. Interestingly as many others have stated there is no warning that your haldex may have failed and have no rear drive. The Icarsoft v2 can access the awd system and is around £120. Its a very capable unit and the reason for looking at it is because I sold a Range Rover vogue 08 as it wouldn't fit in our drive with 2 other cars after recently downsizing. Being a wonderful yet temperamental vehicle the forums I am still on swear by the iCarsoft without going to dealer level. Thank you again, I shall endeavour to report back my experience of getting the issue resolved and restoring rear drive.
  11. Hi Folks, Looks like my rear drive isn't working, Suspect Haldex pump. Looking at ordering icarsoft v2 VAWS as it looks like its can communicate with the pump. I have had a look through the diagnostic section but can't find anyone who has used it for this purpose. Has anyone actually used icarsoft v2 for this purpose successfully or can recommend an alternative. Need to order something asap to confirm then find someone local to replace/service the pump. Thanks in advance.
  12. Hi Folks, 3 months in to 4x4 170 and loving it. Looking for a local indie around Bridgend, Vale of Glamorgan area. Potential 4x4 pump issue. Also having read many posts with different views I'm still on the fence with which way to go with a diagnostic system. A cheapy but functional bluetooth / app or dedicated handheld? Regards.
  13. Hi Y'all, Quick hello from Bridgend, 3 months in to ownership of a my12 4x4 170 and loving it. Enjoying the forum and knowledge base. Hope to contribute soon. Cheers.
