Columbus Map Update 2022-2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Wow that's quite a significant hit. Why would the 2 random read/writes be nearly identical when the sequential ones were so far apart though? Now don't get me wrong, I'm not for one minute suggesting I understand the figures, just reading the numbers π You were right as well about the USB socket in the car, can't get a clear piccie of the pins because of the obstructions. Will have another look tomorrow when 1) it's daylight 2) not having to try and adopt a yoga position because of the rain

Columbus Map Update 2022-2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Will try and get a pic of USB this afternoon, in the meantime checked the SD card I'd been having no joy with. It's Sandisk Ultra 32GB Class 10, quoted as 120mb/s. Realised now where I was going wrong. It was originally formatted Fat32 8192 bytes, could've sworn I'd originally formatted 4096 bytes but obviously not. Files this year obviously a little large hence why it maxed out. I have now formatted ExFat which allows down to 2048 bytes so files would have probably fitted. Have deleted them off this computer now and can't be arsed re-downloading, may try on the MAC some time to see if they do indeed fit.

Columbus Map Update 2022-2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
So here are the results I got. Brand new "Sandisk Ultra Dual Drive Go USB Type C 64GB" Formatted ExFat 4096 bytes (Interesting that when formatting SanDisk Ultra Class 10 SD card didn't give me the option of 4096 only 8192?? Just tried it again and same??) Computer is a Dell XPS 15 9560 running Win 10 Pro Hope this all means something to you π€ Dave

Columbus Map Update 2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Hi Tell, will be a few days before I can run it, doesn't appear to be MAC compatible and so will have to dig out WIN laptop when I've got a few hours spare π

Columbus Map Update 2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Mine is also the 2016 unit going off the spec sheet, and using the USB 3 stick took 45 mins for the update. Have to say I'm personally happy with the speed, but will watch with interest as you carry out your tests π

Columbus Map Update 2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Wow, that is interesting, never realised there could be such a difference just down to different manufacturers! You could understand maybe a few MB, but 400MB is insane, and that would certainly explain it. Thank you for putting an old man out of his misery ππ (although now, of course, Iβm going to have to fire up the old laptop when I get a sec, reformat the cards and check out exactly what free space Iβm showing π rabbit hole here I come)

Columbus Map Update 2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Exactly re the Catch 22. Found that out with a 32gb usb that I had π hence then moving up to the 64gb. What IS annoying me though are the 32gb SD cards. Everything with them has been done solely on a Windows 10 Dell laptop (too old to run Win 11) Most people have been able to fit the files on, but I can't? π€¨ As first post, they were originally formatted with smallest cluster, can't find any hidden files and didn't reformat (initially anyway) just deleted previous maps, it doesn't matter at the end of the day, just ANNOYING ME π€―, nothing to do with MAC overheads as not been near the MAC Ah well, one of the mysteries of the Universe πͺ

Columbus Map Update 2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
Hmm, makes sense. The SD cards have never been in the MAC though so no overheads there. I did check fully, (well as much as I could on the Dell laptop that no hidden folders, files etc lurking) and with the USB as I said used Keka to unzip and then Clean My Drive after unzipping onto the stick and all went swimmingly. Anyway, going to stick with USB now, got 2 x SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive 64gb, so USB 3 Type A one end for the Skoda and Type C other end for the MBP. Fast enough for me, and although I can get by when it comes to File Allocation Tables, will leave that to more knowledgeable people than me π

Columbus Map Update 2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
That's the strange thing though, they were originally formatted FAT 32 using smallest cluster size available, which if memory serves me right was 4096 bytes and have worked perfectly for last 18 months. When out of frustration I reformatted, minimum cluster sizes seem to have changed following updates so chose 16kb but still no joy. I did debate on formatting USB NTFS. as over 32gb threshold but decided to try fully on MAC and all good, at least if it all goes tits up on next update I've still got this good one as a fall back π

Columbus Map Update 2023 (MIB1/2 HIGH)
So, no idea why, but update wouldn't fit on EITHER of the 2 Sandisk class 10 32gb cards I have. I have been using these cards alternately for the past 18 months with no problem. (always like to have previous maps as backup) I didn't reformat, just deleted all the old files and copied new files over. Even though I use Mac, this was all done on an old Win laptop which I only use for this and VCDS. I checked there were no hidden files or other dross which had been copied across, but after multiple tries on both cards not having it all. In desperation then reformatted cards So having given up decided to 'go off piste' and use USB. I know it's not the recommended way but hey ho. Formatted 'ex fat' on Mac, used Keka to unzip and cleaned after copying files across with 'Clean My Drive' and installed in car with no problems, got the nice Ok message after about 40 mins

Low speed manoeuvering
If like mine, it only does it when cold and on first start off, after that all good. Also set mine to early release and that did help enormously. I also find blipping the throttle just before selecting gear and setting off straight away does help. As part of the service this year I had discs and pads all round, (only as fronts needed doing so had a rush of blood to the brain and got them all done π), also brake fluid change, and still like that. I also asked Skoda to test drive it after it had been sat overnight and they said all fine. Also asked an indy near me to try the same, and likewise all fine. To say it was getting under my skin was an understatement, as I also came from a Merc so feel your pain π you will get used to it, save your money

Phone holders for a superb
Position wise, same place I have mine. The BEST one I have found with trial and error over the years is the GENUINE Samsung one. Not cheap, but use one in truck and car, has cut out for cable underneath and holds all phones really secure. I have used iPhone 12 Pro Max for last 2 years and bought them both before that when using Samsung. Forget lookalikes and get genuine one. Tip: most phone holders fall off in hot sun when sat all day. Buy some ISP (isopropyl alcohol) wipe screen where holder is going to attach and wipe back of suction cup, problem solved

What have you done to your Superb III today?
I fitted DTUK tuning box AND pedal box to my 65 plate L&K. Tuning box certainly gives the oomph when you want it, but itβs the pedal box which has transformed the pedal response, itβs now instant on all settings. Worth paying the extra for the Bluetooth version IMHO and can then control everything on the go via the app, and hide the pedal box controller out of the way in the little pull out drawer on right side of steering column

Replacement wheel centres for Superb III
These are a nice tight fit, need a hefty thump with palm of the hand and then a satisfying click as they seat. You're probably right about the resistance, but at that price you can change them every year, good excuse to buy more stuff as well. Considering the amount of processes the wheels go through to finished article, I also think price reasonable. As I said in earlier post, βsmartβ repairs to alloys look good for a short period of time. But all it needs is a small flake under the surface before they start bubbling again. Iβm just now terrified of scuffing them, so Iβve started parking like a BMW driver, 2 feet from kerb π€£

Replacement wheel centres for Superb III
Can confirm no customs charges, paid Eur 12 for Fed Ex shipping to door. Ordered Thursday 12/5 and sent Monday 16/5 but had also ordered the Skoda rear seat protector which was out of stock at time of order. Off the top of my head received order on the Wednesday. They are very good quality. The set I ordered had the 4 locking covers as well but didn't come with the cap 'puller'. As I put in previous post found one in the car tool kit! You won't be disappointed with Amazing Alloys, cracking job. Mine are 19" Trinity's and decided to go with the solid Anthracite (original colour) but without diamond cutting. What have you done to your Superb III today?
Problem is, there is refurbishing, and then there is proper refurbishing. Most are just 'smart' repairs, quick sandpaper, repaint and clear coat. 6 months later (12 if you're lucky) you start noticing bubbling of the paint. Proper refurbishment involves acid bath, shot blasting, repairs, powder coating, clear coat etc, which is what companies like Rimtec and Amazing Alloys in Telford do. In effect they come back to factory finish. I also have the 19" Trinity's and by coincidence all 4 are at Amazing Alloys at the moment with my L&K looking pretty sad for itself on my drive on axle stands π I decided not to have them diamond cut again because of dreaded 'white worm' so have gone for full Anthracite, total cost was Β£ 320 inc vat. I also got genuine bolt covers and centre caps from here: https://www.skoda-parts.com/online-store.html covers were 16 normal and 4 locking for 7.06 eur total and centre caps 6.70 eur total. Took 4 days from CZ! When they arrived realised didn't have the cap 'puller' but found cars toolkit already had one included, think of everything them nice Skoda people π

2016 1.6 DSG clutch pack and flywheel
No worries pal, there were no fault codes anywhere on mine either, but, like I said Iβm no mechanic, just drive them. My Dad (back in the day when the world was black and white) used to be a master mechanic in motor racing. He always started with the simple things and worked towards the more serious things just like most mechanics did. This was back when fixing cars didnβt include electronics. Me, knowing enough to get by always start with worst case scenario π At the end of the day theyβre the specialists, just seems nowadays there are too many garages trying to cash in on peoples ignorance and desperation whilst upping their profits. All the best anyway, and hope you get it all fixed without having to donate body parts to pay for it π Dave

2016 1.6 DSG clutch pack and flywheel
Probably WAY off the mark here, but are you sure it's clutch and flywheel? The judder when you are pulling away does it still do it with Autohold disabled? If only with Autohold enabled see my post on page 82 of the VCDS Adaptions thread. Sounds sort of similar to what I was experiencing in my 65 plate 6 speed DSG

VCDS options on Superb III
I'd like to take credit as I said, but alas no. I absolutely love the car, it was just this 1 thing that has been niggling me for so long. It seems to be more a VW issue than Skoda, have found no other instances on Skoda forums but a few different threads on VW forums, why, who knows. Maybe some have just learnt to live with it. If I can save just 1 person going with Skodas recommendation of replacing the Mechatronic unit at Β£ 1,500 + then job done. Car is perfect now π

VCDS options on Superb III
Autohold Adaption MY16 Apologies if this has been posted before, I've searched the thread and haven't found anything. A bit of background first. Bought the 65 L&K estate last June, and have always had a problem with the Autohold and auto handbrake release causing a 'surge' when setting off, forward or reverse. This was due in part to the amount of revs needed to release. (6 speed DSG) It was acceptable (still not good) when everything up to temp, but a nightmare when cold, to the extent I drove 90% of the time with Autohold turned off. When pulling forward or reversing out of the drive it would try and stall, unless excessive revs used, which would then mean accelerating then jumping on brakes immediately. Needless to say Autohold turned off getting in car and manually released electronic handbrake EVERY time. Spoke to Skoda dealer Oswestry who suggested possible Mechatronics unit!! Took it to an indy specialist who diagnosed faulty 'Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor', replaced but no change. 2nd Skoda dealer who serviced car 2 days ago (full dealer service history) asked to test drive when cold which they did and said everything ok. Since I got the car this has really been getting under my skin. I may be the only 1 with this problem, but just in case there is somebody else pulling there hair out I thought I'd post the following. I take no credit for finding this, that honour goes to TIGSEL on the VW Vortex forum and works on DSG and manual gearboxes, VW and Skoda. 1- ABS Brakes 2 - Adaptions 3 - IDE04871- Dynamic Starting Assist 4 - Early There are 3 levels of Autohold release, Early, Normal and Late. Normal is the default, it needs setting to Early. I have to say I was sceptical it would make much difference, but WOW, it's like night and day! Car parked overnight, did the adaption, touched accelerator and glided forward, same in reverse. Test drove for 2 hours and absolutely perfect. Was worried there may be a bit of 'creep' when fully warm, but no, tried uphill and downhill all good, happy chap

Hello from a Lurker! (just sounds wrong that :-) )
Hi all, Have just bought a 65 plate L&K Superb Estate in black with cream interior, 2 owners but full Skoda history with 64000 miles on her (assume still allowed to say her, as being a car don't think she's gender fluid!) Anyway, bought a 2018 Merc in August after a lot of wrangling over my short list of 1) L&K 2) Merc E220 estate 3) Mondeo Vignale estate, discounted 3) quite quickly after test drive and that stupid Sync 3 Ford still insist on, then spent a LOT of weeks over other 2 until a deal I couldn't refuse came up on the Merc. Fast forward to now and urgent trade required to help daughter out financially, followed by 150 mile trip for Superb from Shrewsbury (home) to Weston-super-Mare and I love her! Not a badge snob by any means so after 'forced' sale only car I looked at was Skoda and no regrets whatsoever. Have been lurking on here for a week or so, just as lots of questions, but didn't want to post questions that had already undoubtedly been asked, search is your friend! So signed up to ERWINS for a day and downloaded everything I could, and am currently waiting for GENUINE VCDS lead to arrive so I can enter that murky world (prepare for stupid questions) Don't intend to do anything mad just a couple of tweaks. Bought from Gendans, talking of whom, below is the text of the email they sent following despatch (only included as made me laugh) Your product has been gently taken from our shelves with soft cotton gloves and placed on a cushion for its journey to the packing area. A team of 4 packers thoroughly inspected your item and polished it to ensure it is in the best possible condition before beginning the packing process. Our packing specialist from Sweden lit a scented candle and demanded silence from everyone in the office. A perfect ambiance is required to allow him to achieve packaging perfection. Once completed, we all had a wonderful celebration and the team marched to the delivery company, waving and spreading good cheer as we journeyed through Swansea. Everyone applauded, shouted Bon Voyage! and hugged one another as the van left. I've also signed up for the Freedom membership as intend being here long term. Probably won't be able to offer any mechanical advice as I just drive them don't fix them, but only right to register. Thanks again :-) (sorry so long for an intro) Dave
