  1. Simon, thanks for taking the time to reply, and after all of this I think you're right, dealer or TRW pads would have probably resolved the issue. I was surprised the brembos had the same problem, but after a few thousand miles it's eased a little, probably due to a bit of brake dust build up. What you've shown in the picture is exactly the problem I was having with mine. Hopefully this thread helps others if they have the same issue with poor fitting pads. Thanks again!
  2. Thanks for the advice, really appreciate the help, but the local parts places I've rung today all said if they didn't come with shims as part of the kit, and they weren't fitted with shims when you took the car apart, it's very likely they don't need shims. It's normally part of the kit if required and "after market" shims don't really exist, unless required for the car.
  3. Thanks, but (and this might seem like a silly question), I assume shims aren't just a generic thing?? And as the new pads never came with shims, and there were no shims already in the caliper, what would I even look for?
  4. Hey, Someone pointed me onto this thread as I too have the same issue. Eichers originally, but then again with Brembos. Did brembos fix the issue for you? Cheers
  5. Thanks so much for sharing the helpful posts. Firstly, it's handy to know it is reasonably common. The gent in the first post has done what I've done and gone for brembos so very surprised I have had the same issue twice. First with eichers, then with the Brembos. The other mentions shims, but again my searching online hasn't really helped me here. Another mentions a grease, but I'd only imagine that would further help with squealing (which isn't a symptom I have) and not the knocking. I'll jump on one of those posts and see how they got on. Thanks anyway
  6. Hi all, I've scoured the internet high and low for the answer to this, but come up with nothing. If it's already been answered and I'm just blind, or I'm in the wrong place here please let me know. I've got a 2013 Octavia VRs Estate. One of the first of the mk3s. I recently did a disc and pad change, front and rear. I noticed, on driving a clunking noise the first time the pedal was pressed, so I did some testing. I drove up and down the road where I live. It goes....drive forward, brake -"clunk", reverse, brake- "clunk. If I go forward and brake, then forward and brake again, the noise only happens the first time. To me, it sounded like pads knocking the caliper. I took it to a local garage who advised it was very likely to be the pads, cheaply made so moving around when the piston pushes and the make contact. So I swapped them for brembos (these are the trw calipers for reference). Although the clunking is less, it's definitely still there. Everything is torqued to spec. I used appropriate greases on the backside and wings of the pads. Unless I've been super stupid I don't think I've missed anything. There are no shims with this set up, as far as I am aware. Has anyone ever had this? Any help would be super appreciated. Sorry for being a forum noob.
