Hi all, good to see some new Scala owners and a nice little community forming on the forum.

@Paulwal with regards to your original query, I had the same thoughts as you when I took delivery of my Scala 18months ago (SEL with 18" Vega alloys).  I talked to dealer about it and they did some investigation, their end response was that nearly  all the promotional images of the Scala are of the Monte Carlo or with the chassis control option, where it is possible to select 'sport' driving mode and which lowers the ride height electronically by 15mm.  So what this means is that, while you are researching and looking at nice images of a Scala you're subconscious is almost being preconditioned that it is a lower more sporty chassis than it is on most  models.

To alter this, you can drop it 30mm on Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs.  Here in the UK most insurers will allow you one performance modification with little to no change on your policy premium.  The Eibach Pro-Kit are TUV approved for use with the standard shocks well within the tolerances of day to day driving.  You can find them online direct from Eibachshop.co.uk for less than 200GBP and fitting will be 2-3 hours with new alignment included.   The Pro-Kit will reduce that gap significantly and improve cornering as well as nose dive under braking.  Of course they will also be stiffer and you will feel the bumps more, but they are still great for day to day driving in my opinion, and the list of pros far outweighs the cons.

For some guidance,  I am driving an SEL without the chassis control option on Vega 18s with the Eibach Pro-Kit -30mm springs and here are some pics.  Could still easily go lower in my opinion but then you are either looking at going to Eibach Sportline springs with uprated Bilstein B6 shocks or full on coilovers, and either way it starts to get pricey.

    Hi

Thanks for your detailed response, I really appreciate it.

First off, your car looks awesome. If the Scala was my own (I care share with my wife) I'd probably make some adjustments like those you have as they really make the car look sportier. The black grill and alloys are such a good feature against the white.

It's great to know about the suspension for lowering the vehicle, I had no idea this was an option so thanks for telling me this, I'll bear it in mind.

    Cheers,

    Paul

Its same as other VAG group cars, the Leon I had previously has this and it is supposed to cut out things that are causing slow accelertion like aircon, cuts it out and tells it you want full power, thought it was something strange when I came across it im my old Leon but thats what it does.

Thanks. It definitely sounds intentional in that case.

Is it something like ”kickdown” on automatics? Maybe they do it same for manuals just cost cut to not need to do two types?

My dad mentioned this but we didn't know the technical term but he did describe the issue i'm having. I'll look it up and see what I can find. Thanks 😊

    No idea.

but if it reaches the floor are you saying it can push further into the carpet and underlay.

Or it is nearly at the floor then goes more with force?

What engine & what gearbox, manual or a DSG?

    ?

How is it when driving, have you had it flat out with the accelerator to the floor?   Pedal to the metal!

It doesn't go into the carpet/floor, it's as though it feels like it's reached its max press but then it goes a little further to reach the floor.

I noticed it when overtaking on a motorway, other than needing to overtake at speed or drop a gear, it's not something that I notice when driving around town.

It's the manual 1.5 petrol engine.

    Cheers

  5. Hello

The accelerator pedal on my UK Scala SE L seems to stick when it's pushed to the floor. The best way to describe it is the accelerator pedal is smooth until it has reached the floor, but when reached, it can be pressed a little more as though there's an extra push available.

Is this normal or does it seem like a fault? It can be tested when the car is parked with the ignition switched off by pressing down the accelerator with your hand.

    Thanks,

Glad you like your Scala and that the dealer has confirmed there is no issue with your suspension. My Scala seems quite similar to yours and agree that the gap in the arches does seem a bit more than you might expect. However, it does make for quite a nice comfy ride and means it's highly unlikely you will ever bottom it out on any speed bumps! Given the car is based on the same chassis as the current Polo, the 17' wheels still fill the arches better than the typical 15' wheels you get on most Polo's.

You're right, the ride is really impressive, it's better than an old Golf MK5 that I had which was a really nice ride. It's also the reason I bought it. With just having a baby we wanted something that would be ideal for the family which this definitely is.

Hey, what happened with the check at Skoda? Did they fix it if there was something wrong or it is normal for your scala?

    I am curious what happened.

    Hi

sorry, it's been a hectic week trying to sell my old car. They said that the clearance was fine and no transportation blocks were left. They even took a photo of another scala that was in the garage and they both looked the same. I'm now at peace with it. It still looks higher than I'd like, however, I bought the car mainly as a family car and for one that was safe, good on tech but still looks good and it still meets those things. For anyone thinking of a scala, i'd definitely recommend it.

Sorry for my late reply but my wife driving the scala so I had no time to go and do it. Here are the measurments :

    Front: 16cm

    Rear: 15,5cm

I measured them straight up but the photos are not straight.

    Hi Wieggot

Thanks for this. Looking at your measurements mine actually looks quite close so that's reassuring. I do have it booked into Skoda tomorrow for them to jack it up and take a closer look to be sure.

You've been a great help and your Scala looks great in that colour!

I’ve asked them a couple of times and have got nowhere.  I see it as a totally reasonable request. However, the dealership rep basically says that I should simply refer to My2022 specs on the Skoda site.

My problem is that these specs only exist on the rep’s Skoda iPad app and are different to those on the Skoda uk configuration website. The specs also regularly seem to be changing, with things like rear camera and spare wheel apparently now being standard and some other items being made chargeable.

I am not prepared to commit to £20k + if I am not being told exactly what I’m paying for.

It seems strange and unreasonable that they can't provide this. You can always mention that you've known someone (me) who's order was incorrect and you want the list to ensure that this won't happen to you. If you've already asked I'm not sure what more you can do unless you escalate it. Good luck, i do hope it works out.

I have the same 17inch stratos wheels. I dont have adaptive suspension and the gap is definitely smaller than the ones in your picture.

The gaps are similar to the ones in the white example above with the 18inch aeros fitted.

Thanks, it's a great help and yeah, it definitely looks lower - and therefore better.

I just hope they can actually do something about it but that would mean them admitting it isn't quite right.

    Thanks for the reply.

When you ordered were you provided with a detailed breakdown of the features that would come on your new car ?

The reason I ask is that I am about to order an SEL with a number of add-ons  and the dealer is ignoring all my requests to provide this at point of order.

He is basically saying that I will receive a MY2022 Scala but cannot provide me with a document that states that it comes with a spare wheel, virtual cockpit etc

Hi. No, I didn't receive anything like this.

The only thing I received from them was a list of the order, however, this was a digital file that was sent approx 4 weeks before I collected the car. Me and my wife found it strange that after placing our deposit, we didn't come away with any kind of confirmation of the order. We just put it down to COVID but thinking about it, it was a little odd.

I know how you feel, you want confirmation of everything you're ordering so I would just ask them again or ask maybe ask why can't they provide this to make them provide you with an actual reason.

    Hope this helps

Thanks, that's brilliant. This will really help me if they're not understanding what I'm looking for.

Did you ask for yours or did they simply provide you with this?

  13. 39 minutes ago, GeoffAllen66 said:

Did you have any other extras fitted to confuse the issue, or was it just the tailgate design pack?

What is the dealer planning on doing with the incorrect vehicle, as I need an SEL urgently ?

I had a few but other than the LED Lights they were all internal so it shouldn't have been a reason for confusion. They've given me the Scala with the incorrect tailgate, ordered a new one and once in stock they'll simply swap the boot over

Ask your dealer for a print out of all the options that were built into the vehicle when manufactured. Although I own a Scala now I previously had an Octavia L & K  which had sport suspension option when built which was lower than standard. (Not to be confused with adaptive suspension) it therefore had less wheel arch gap than a standard Octavia

My 2020 Scala SEL has adaptive suspension 18" wheels and 45 profile tyres, which seem to fill the wheel arches well. So difficult to compare with your model without knowing its build specifications

Thanks RDB, I'll definitely do this as I had no idea this is something you can request. It's one of those small things that as a customer I want to look right but sometimes it's hard to articulate why it's important to the staff in store.

  15. UPDATE

I visited the Skoda dealer this morning and other cars definitely have less of a gap between the wheel and the arch. They said I can take it along for them to take a look and see what they can do. They also said that there is likely to be a small percentage either side of what the space should be so I guess this means some may be different to others, I'll find out next week.

  16. 1 hour ago, Wiegott said:

I mesured our scala (one week old and same 17inch wheels) and on rear from the upper edge of the alloy wheel (not from the tyre) to the arch i exactly 15,5cm. Hope this is helpful for you.

Thank you so much, this is excellent.

I'll measure mine tomorrow morning and see how it compares. I'm also going to the skoda garage to look at others so i'll post my update.

    9 hours ago, KenONeill said:

If I just want to compare this sort of size, I use a hand.

Great idea. I can't believe I didn't think of this and it's much less embarrassing

  17. Thanks all.

I had no idea what transport blocks were but it seems like it could be a common issue among the VW/Skoda range. I've called Skoda and they're happy for me to pop along and compare to others and if they do look too big then the servicing team can take a look. I don't want to be that nerd with a tape measure at the dealer but i think it could be worth it :D

This will be the dealer’s mistake. I an sure the factory will never do a mistake. If they do they would not deliver the car. Of course the dealer will always saying ”It is factory mistake, not ours”

    1 hour ago, conspicuous said:

Damn. I thought they did t do mistakes like this in the factory. Din t they have a list and check it off.

It was the factory's. The dealer showed me the order that was sent and the factory simply missed it off. The service I've received has been great so I can't complain. It's just a shame as it was part of the car that I love. In a couple of months it'll hopefully be installed though

  19. Hey, congrats!

We took order of ours last week and I'll be configuring it today. I'm jealous of your tailgate design. I ordered this but they missed it from the order. It's ok as they're ordering a new one but I have to wait 16 weeks. The monte carlo looks great, especially in that colour you have.

I think this is such a underrated car in terms of design. From some angles it reminds me of the Audi A3.

Did you have your car lowered? I'm a little curious about the distance between my wheels and wheel arch, i think it looks too big. I have the 17" but i think the rim + tyre is the same size?
