SUPERB MK2 1.6 DIESEL ESTATE ENGINE PULLING ABILITY
Thanks for your response. Think I underestimated the weight of my passengers somewhat. We'll probably weigh around 400 kg altogether. Yes, I've already had some difficult encounters with dirt tracks and speed humps in my Superb, so now I treat those sort of obstacles with more caution than I used to.

SUPERB MK2 1.6 DIESEL ESTATE ENGINE PULLING ABILITY
Hi. I have a 2012 1.6 TDI Superb estate and I was wondering if anyone has any anecdotes or any other related experiences about carrying significant loads in this model of car. Myself and three friends are thinking about travelling from Nottinghamshire to the Lake District later this year for a camping event in my 1.6 diesel Superb estate. All four of us are probably above average in terms of bodyweight, and we plan to mount a fairly big roofbox to the car. The combined extra weight of the roof box and the other camping related equipment we might be taking could be over 100 kg, and the combined bodyweight of all four of us would probably be about 320 kg. Our drive may well include going up some fairly steep hills in Cumbria. Do you think the car would be able to handle the journey, or am I being unrealistic using the vehicle above? I appreciate there potentially could be issues relating to speed humps and bumpy dirt tracks, but I'm also trying to plan for how well the car would deal with steep roads and gaining speed on the faster roads.

SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT
If I removed fuse 5 from the fuse box in the dashboard of the car above, which apparently is the the fuse for the control unit for headlamp beam adjustment, headlight swivel, and the control unit for the parking and park assist), will the headlamps simply stay in their current, correct position?

SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT
Hi. Thanks for the information. Yes, when I'm in reverse and as per the image above an image of the car does show up near the radio/CD tuner, along with accompanying wavy lines to indicate when and approximately where the vehicle is in relation to objects behind it.

SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT
Hi. Thanks for the help so far. I've attached an image of the control system I have. The sensors on the rear don't look like aftermarket sensors, but I could be wrong. The rear sensors for reversing appear flush with the rest of the vehicle body and are the same colour as the car. Two of the sensors appear to be located just below the wide reflective strip on each side of the back of the car, and there may be two more nearer to the middle at the back, along the same horizontal position as the outer two sensors.

SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT
Thanks, I really appreciate your advice. I don't have the bigger, more detailed display you have on your car. My display is among the most basic of any Superb MKII. Last year someone tried to advise me about the maxidot display. I tried following their advice, however it was as though my maxidot display, (or equivalent) was less sophisticated than that of the maxidot the person giving me the advice had. As you've pointed out, it'd be surprising if there weren't simple ways to adjust the volume of the reversing alert.

SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT
Follow up: I don't think the issue of the loud reversing sensor alert has been resolved so far by altering the volume on the radio/CD player. Am I going to have to take a fuse out if I want to stop the unnecessary audio alerts, or will removing any fuses affect other, essential parts of the car?

SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT
Think I might have managed to lower the volume by fiddling with the radio/cd player. I pressed the button near the far right side that looks like a musical note, cycled through the settings and lowered 'PCD Volume.' (Or similar.) Time will tell if this has resolved the issue. 🤔

SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT
Hi. I mean the (unnecessarily loud) beeps that occur inside the car when reversing and nearing what the sensors believe is an obstruction.

SUPERB MK2 1.6 ESTATE REVERSE AUDIBLE ALERT
Hi. Is there any way to completely disable, (or at least turn down the volume of) the audible alert when reversing the Superb S TDI CR 1.6 (2012) estate?

Using AGM Batteries With Conventional 2012, 1.6 Superb Diesel
Hi. I measured my battery tray and it's about 280 mm across. I think the dimensions of my battery tray and the battery height is compatible with those you mentioned. Varta generally seem to advertise the longest warranties.lockquote widget

Using AGM Batteries With Conventional 2012, 1.6 Superb Diesel
Hi. I have a standard, old fashioned 2012 1.6 Superb diesel estate. (Not stop-start.) I'm thinking of buying a better battery and I was wondering whether an AGM battery, such as the one in the link would be suitable? https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/powerline/096agm/ Has anyone with a similar car to mine had any experience of using AGM batteries in this type of car and if so was it positive or negative?

Anti-roll Bar Linkage Ball Joint Advisories
Hi. I took the car in to the accredited independent garage today for the new anti-roll bar linkage ball joints to be replaced. I was originally quoted £105 in total to replace two of these by this garage. (One at the front and one at the rear.) This was a reputable garage. I tried at least three garages for the quotes. The technician inspected the old drop links and told me there were three that needed replacing. The technician said the other drop link was fairly new. I paid £144 in total for the three 'drop links', (hope this is the correct word?) to be replaced. I mentioned to the technicians that it might be better to replace all of the drop links, (even if they're not currently causing problems,) but they insisted this wasn't necessary. One of the drop links on my car was so old it separated into two pieces when being removed. The garage used MOOG parts. I was charged £62.50 for labour, (1.25 hours) - excluding VAT and £57.50 excluding VAT for the three linkage ball joints. The clunking noise when I go over bumps has gone.

Anti-roll Bar Linkage Ball Joint Advisories
I'm not that far from you, I'm in Nottinghamshire. I probably would do more of my own repairs if I had private facilities. I have to park my car in a busy car park and no-one else in the apartment block around me does their own repairs. (Apart from maybe changing an air filter or something similar.)

Anti-roll Bar Linkage Ball Joint Advisories
In your view is it reasonable for a customer to ask an accredited independent garage to order in the parts the customer chooses? I've not had my own car that much over the years, meaning dealing with professional garage services is a bit of a learning curve for me at the moment.

Anti-roll Bar Linkage Ball Joint Advisories
Thanks for the comments. I contacted 4 garages about doing the replacement for the two anti-roll bar linkage ball joints, (Halfords and three independents.) The quotes, (for everything, including VAT) ranged from £105 in total to about £173 in total - the quotes are based on the garage obtaining the parts. Hopefully the replacement parts will make the slight clunking noise over bumpy roads stop as well.

Flat Tyre Because Of No Valve Stem Cap?
You may be right. I'm taking it to Halfords today for a free tyre inspection.

Anti-roll Bar Linkage Ball Joint Advisories
I'd like to order my own parts separately, however the experience of being sent the wrong suspension part the last time I did this puts me off doing it again a bit. I have this vision of taking the parts I've purchased to the garage, the technicians taking the car apart, finding the parts are the wrong size, but obviously charging me money for the labour. Was thinking of asking the garage to use MOOG parts as they're not overly expensive and are fairly easy to get. I'm still not entirely sure whether the advisories can be rectified simply by replacing the bushes. it's not particularly practical for me to do my own repairs as I don't have my own private garage or driveway.

Anti-roll Bar Linkage Ball Joint Advisories
Hi DEL80Y, Thanks for the reply. I'm a little reluctant to buy parts online then bring them to the accredited repair centre because I was sent the wrong suspension part a few months ago by a (reputable) seller on eBay UK. (They were called Parts In Motion/CarPartsInMotion.)

Flat Tyre Because Of No Valve Stem Cap?
Thanks for the replies. I checked my suspect tyre again and the pressure had only dropped by maybe 2% overnight. (As compared with about 15% air loss the night before.) I did the spit test today and film did form over the valve stem opening. I'm taking the car to Halfords tomorrow for a free tyre safety test.

Anti-roll Bar Linkage Ball Joint Advisories
Hi. At my last MOT I got the following two advisories for my standard Skoda Superb 1.6 MK2 estate: Offside Front Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint has slight play Offside Rear Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint has slight play My car makes a slight knocking noise when going over bumpy surfaces. I live in Nottinghamshire. I've driven the car a bit since the advisories but probably no more than 500 miles. Approximately how much would it cost me at an accredited independent garage to get the two advisories repaired and stop the knocking noise? (Assuming the knocking is due to the advisories.) Do the whole Anti-roll bar linkage ball joints need replacing or would just the bushes need replacing?

Flat Tyre Because Of No Valve Stem Cap?
Hi. I don't think the tyre that went flat is a run flat tyre, although I'm not 100% sure. That's really good advice about testing the valve stem for a leak. I might try that. Thanks.

Flat Tyre Because Of No Valve Stem Cap?
Hi. I was letting some air out of my tyres this morning and lost one of the valve stem dust caps. I had no spare caps and was in a bit of a hurry, so I just drove off, thinking very little of it. Myself and two friends went on a drive of about 65 miles, and we probably went up to around 60 mph. When I got back from our trip I found the tyre which had no dust cap on the valve stem was completely flat. For all I know we could have been driving for most of our journey with a flat tyre, none of us noticed anything odd about the tyre during our trip. Is it possible that because I was driving without the dust cap a lot of air leaked out of the tyre?
