  1. Hi. Are the factory fitted fuel tanks on MK2 Superbs made of plastic or metal? I've read it's best to keep a fuel tank fairly full most of the time in order to prevent rust appearing inside it. My car is often left for several weeks without any use. If the fuel tanks on MK2 Superbs are metal, I assume they'd be coated on the inside with a substance to prevent rust?

  3. Hi. Is it possible to open the bonnet (from fully closed) on the Skoda Superb MK2 without opening the doors? If so, is it fairly easy to do? (I'm thinking of a worse case scenario where my battery is so flat that I can't unlock the doors.)
  4. Thanks for your response. What about the other way around? Is it possible to disconnect the actuator from the battery without removing the fuel flap housing on the outside of the car? I possibly have a small parasitic drain. My fuel flap no longer locks tightly shut. In your opinion could a faulty solenoid, (or actuator) cause a parasitic drain?
  5. Hi Is it possible to disconnect the fuel refill flap solenoid/actuator on a MK2 Skoda Superb estate without removing any panels or trim in the boot?
  6. My fuel refill flap won't lock tightly shut when the central locking system is turned on. It can be closed and it's flush with the car body but it's very easy to open by simply pushing inwards on the flap to release it - regardless of how the central locking is configured. (It's faulty.) My new battery drains more quickly than expected and I'm now wondering if the failed actuator and solenoid are causing a parasitic drain on my battery. I'm thinking of disconnecting the solenoid, as someone else suggested. However, I want to find whether I'm getting a parasitic drain or not first by using the multimeter and fuse removal technique. I'd be grateful if anyone can tell me please which fuse needs to be checked in relation to the fuel refill flap actuator and solenoid. (Not sure if I used the right technical term?)

  8. Hi. I'm trying to get a locking fuel cap with keys for my 2012 Superb MK2 estate and it's not as easy as I thought to get a replacement. Are the fuel caps from other Skodas, such as from MK2 Octavias compatible with MK2 Superbs?
  9. Having a problem where the fuel flap won't lock. It just remains unlocked, (2012 Superb.) It did lock intermittently but now it appears to have failed completely. I looked at the part on the left that can be depressed by hand behind the fuel flap and it's completely dead when the fob is pressed to lock. I'm probably just going to get a locking fuel cap for now. Is it possible a faulty fuel flap mechanism could cause the battery to discharge more quickly than normal?
  10. Hi. I want to buy some magnetic hooks to help me hang curtains or screens across some of the windows of my MKII Superb estate, (2012.) Am I right in thinking magnets would stick to the body shell of my Superb?
  11. Thanks for your replies. Finally managed to get it fully charged. Tested it with a multimeter. It was over 12.6V. My understanding is this is generally normal for a new, fully charged 12V car battery. it's under warranty for nearly three years. I'll keep an eye on it and if a problem occurs with it I might contact Euro Car Parts for an exchange, a battery test or a refund.
  12. Thanks for the input. I've been trying to fully charge my battery whilst it's in the car using a portable power supply, (similar to the one shown in the link.) This has helped give me an indication of how much power is going into my car battery, (although the displays on my power supplies aren't particularly accurate.) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Enginstar-Powerstation-Generators-Motorhome-Emergency/dp/B08T6CQLKX I don't think there's a parasitic load, it's just taking a lot longer than I expected to fully charge. It might have been the case that my car battery wasn't fully charged when I bought it new. (Contrary to what Euro Car Parts claimed.) I have a standard, budget multimeter. Is this suitable for checking a car battery? The point about possibly having bought a supposedly new battery that had been returned by the previous customer because it was poor quality is a possibility I'm considering. The battery charger I use was runner up in a well known publication, (possibly Which?) One of the reasons I wanted the charger I have is because it can be used with all types of lithium batteries. My charger seems to charge the battery for hours at under 1 Amp and at about 14.4 volts.

I'm using a Sealey Autocharge 6.5 amp charger; https://m.sitebox.ltd.uk/sealey-autocharge650hf-compact-auto-smart-charger-65a-9cycle-612v-lithium-osealey_AUTOCHARGE650HF The charger continues to charge for hours, apparently without the battery getting full. I contacted Sealey about this, explained I use the automatic settings and 'standard' battery setting and they claim it's normal for the charger to do this. One of the slightly troubling aspects of this is I was trying to fully charge the battery about five days ago and it seemed nearly done. (At least 90% full - possibly more.) I left my car parked for about four nights, came back to finish the charging process, (expecting it only to take another thirty minutes to fully charge) and the battery appeared to have drained by at least 10% in four nights. Perhaps the display on the charger is inaccurate. According to Euro Car Parts the battery was suitable for my car, (albeit it is perhaps a little small capacity wise.)
  14. Hi. My new battery is draining a lot faster than I expected. There are no lights or equipment left on overnight in the car and no warning lights are appearing on the instrument panel. I'm starting to suspect the battery itself, (a fairly cheap Lion calcium battery shown in the link below from Euro Car Parts) is the problem. I probably should have paid more attention to the warning on this forum about this battery. https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/lion-027-car-battery-3-year-guarantee-444770271 My battery is probably losing 1-2 Amp hours per day while it's attached to the car - despite the fact I'm not using the car at all at the moment. It seems to take ages to fully charge, (I have a good quality, automatic, easy to use smart charger.) I'm thinking about taking the battery back to Euro Car Parts and getting a better battery. When I bought the (supposedly) new battery a few weeks ago it had no covers over the terminals. Is this normal? Or would a brand new battery normally have terminal covers? Euro Car Parts claimed the battery was sold fully charged. (I find this very hard to believe.)

  16. Hi. I have a 2012 Superb estate Mk2 1.6 TDI. To my knowledge the power steering fluid has never been changed in the car and it's probably time it got replaced. Can the power steering fluid be replaced in this car? Can MK2 Skoda Superbs use any type of standard power steering fluid?

  18. Hi. Please can anyone confirm if the pollen filter housing in my 2012 Superb 1.6 TDI is located behind the panel shown in the image? If so, how do I remove it? (It's quite stubborn to take out.) I took the image on the passenger side. If I'm looking in the wrong place please can you advise where the pollen filter is located on this car.
  19. Hi. I've noticed my car doesn't have a lockable fuel filler cap. (Unless it unlocks somehow when the door is unlocked?) The fuel filler cap mightn't be the original, although it's attached to the body by a thin piece of plastic. Does the flat, outer surface that runs flush with the body of the car, (that's pushed in to open and gain access to the fuel filler cap) have a lock that's connected to the central locking? Do MK2 Superbs, (including the 1.6 diesel estates) have anti-theft/anti-syphon fuel tanks?
  20. Hi. Does this make and model of car ever have problems with the engine mountings? My 2012 Superb, (fairly high mileage but in good condition) recently passed its MOT and nothing was said about this possibly being an issue. I'm getting a new cam belt and water pump kit fitted soon at an independent garage and I was wondering if this might be a good time to also have the engine mountings replaced?
  21. Occasionally people have also commented that when changing the fuel filter it's necessary to reset or recalibrate the car computer. The same posters have claimed major damage can be caused if this isn't done. Others imply it isn't necessary to recalibrate the computer after a fuel filter change. I have a 2012 model. Maybe it's just a case of ensuring the fresh fuel is near the top of the filter housing, and ensuring the key is turned without starting the car a few times before trying to start the car?
  22. I've been trying to understand why some people drain the old fuel from the filter housing, (and replace with fresh fuel) before they refit the metal top of the filter. How important this is? Is this just an added precaution that's not particularly necessary to ensure there's no residue left inside the filter housing? (Including water?) Not everyone does this but sometimes I read critical comments by those who have done this aimed at people who don't do it. Any input about this would be appreciated.
  23. Hi. I'm planning on replacing my paper, (I assume?) fuel filter soon. The filter housing, I also assume is next to the engine, on my 2012, Skoda Superb 1.6 TDI. Any tips appreciated. Does this Superb have one of two fuel filters? Is it fairly easy to replace the filter shown in the link above whilst ensuring no air bubbles get trapped in the system?
