I chose this particular garage because it was reputed to be one of the best in the area. It was approved by Which? Trusted Traders and it was registered with the Motor Ombudsman. Online reviews were good, it was also significantly cheaper than other garages for the same repair. I had little choice other than to pay the VAT, I needed the receipt because I wanted formal proof of the repair being done.

Took my Skoda Superb estate 2012 to a (reputable,) independent repair centre for a rear coil spring replacement today. I'd never been to this garage before. When I asked for a receipt for the repair the technician said the garage would waive the VAT if I didn't request a receipt. Apparently the person who normally dealt with receipts was unavailable for a bit because he had another job to do. Is it common for independent garages to do this in similar circumstances? I wasn't expecting this proposition to be put to me because I've not taken many cars in for servicing or repairs over the years.

Hi. When doing an engine oil change on a MK2 1.6 diesel Superb is it easy to differentiate between the engine oil sump drain plug and the transmission oil drain plug?

I appreciate your input. I've already purchased the calcium battery, although I've not used it. Some people have implied calcium batteries don't charge as well on certain vehicles because they need a higher input from the alternator. Is this your experience on MK2 Superbs?

Hi. There's no way to take a fuse out to turn off the footwell lights? I don't mind occasionally if some of the other interior lights are disabled.

Hi. No, I don't. The two buttons on my Superb on either side of the dials are also in a slightly different position to those shown in the image. (On mine the two buttons are at the 09:00 and 15:00 positions.

I tried to use the instrument panel controls and the controls on the right stalk to turn off the footwell lights and I wasn't able to do it. I didn't have the ignition on. The controls on the right stalk, (supposedly relating to the footwell lights) did nothing when I moved them. The button on the left of the instrument cluster, (which appeared to cycle from the time to the trip distance) also didn't help. My Superb doesn't have any controls on the steering wheel. Does it make any difference as to whether the ignition is on or off for altering the footwell lights?

According to the instructions it might be possible to turn the footwell lights off without having to remove the bulbs. (I hope.)

Hi. Can anyone recommend me a blog, article or video for doing a full self service on a Skoda Superb estate S TDI CR 1.6, (2012) please. Is a full service at home relatively easy to do for beginners with this Skoda?
