  1. Hi Aubrey That's brilliant, and SO helpful. Getting the Amundsen unit out is something I did previously to just see what was involved, and really simple. Right, I think I owe myself and my wife a Christmas present. Big Thanks. 😊 😊
  2. Aubrey Thank you very much indeed for this. I will take a look. Did you fit it yourself? I'm fairly comfortable with replacing head units, did it need any special connectors. Thank you. 😊
  3. Hi. I have a 2017 1.2 tsi petrol yeti in which is fitted an Amundsen Head unit. The head unit is the standard factory fitted unit with 4 buttons down each side, and 2 card slots for, on the L. The navigation card, and on the R. an SD card with all our CD's etc. The unit is failing mostly due to screen issues, and I know that it's possible to get it fixed. But I'd rather change it for a more up to date unit. I'm not too bothered about satnav, as we still use a Garmin unit on the dash, which frankly, as proved on a 2,000 mile journey into Europe last year is far more accurate, and certainly easier to keep updated. So as it's basically just a double din unit, and the ONLY thing I want to retain is the on screen front and rear parking sensor display, can anyone please suggest an aftermarket alternative which will go straight in please. I understand I would lose some steering wheel controls like phone and speech control, but I never use those things anyway. The Amundsen has never been very good, so it's time we dumped it and moved on. Thanks for any advice.

  5. Ask the factory maybe? I'm a driver, not an electronics or software engineer. I also know that it wasn't possible to have it programmed by our original dealer (Silbury Skoda) up here in Newcastle upon Tyne, because he sold the business in 2019. But the next person who implies that I am a liar had better be ready to defend that allegation of libel in a courtroom. Be warned. Be seriously warned! THAT I am not taking from any member of Briskoda. This post is now CLOSED.
  6. Thanks Rick I KNOW we haven't done anything to cause this, so thank you for your refreshing comment. Unfortunately motor forums always seem to have members who will never believe what is actually the case....No matter how compelling the information given by the op, So being judgemental about it is never helpful. There's always a first time for everything. As in this case. Learn from it. Don't knock it. It could happen to any of you. It doesn't matter how experienced you are, LEARN. Never stop learning. Don't get fixed ideas and ridicule peopole because of it. We don't know how the information is loaded onto the car. Why would we? The factory manufactured the vehicle. We bought it. End of. But clearly in this vehicles case, the programming of the maxidot didn't happen properly. Skoda made a mess of it. Not me, not my wife. We are not stupid people, and we know what WAS and WAS NOT on the Maxidot right from the day we bought it. We were always reliably informed (as per countless posts on this, and other forums), that changing the MPH display to KPH was not possible without lining the pockets of "The ubiquitous Main Dealer" using VCDS or changing the country to Australia.... Thank you. I won't comment again on this subject., I put the post up to HELP people, not to be ridiculed,
  7. Thanks Urrell. Well that's as maybe... Not worth falling out over, but I can assure you that that part of the display on our car was not there, and never has been. I've owned it from new, and we have never seen that area on the maxidot before today. We've covered almost 40,000 miles in it. We WOULD have seen it that time. My wife also drives the car when we are abroad, she has never seen it either. That area was blank before i did the reset. So I don't know ?
  8. Thanks guys, but again, I've just spent 30 minutes in my garage, going through every single setting under MFD, and there is nothing. That BAR with the kph info is simply not there on mine. Then I had a thought...I didn't want to do this, but I decided that I would, so I pressed the Factory Reset....... NOW I have that bar, as shown.....So Thank You. The Maxidot was originally set up by the dealership, so maybe they didn't do something right...who knows. But I'm still going to use my own OLD phone for this, because it is TOO SMALL to be of use,,, and I don't want to be gaping at that whilst running into the back of somebody. HERE is MY display as on the DIGI HUD app. I think you'd agree, that it's far more informative, AND I can have it on the dash where it is very clearly visible. I can even set it as a HUD display in dark hours so that it projects onto the screen. Thanks anyway...
  9. Yep very starnge, because mine is the exact same model. There is NO speed display of any sort in the Maxidot display. NONE. Only on the speedometer. There is the issue. Unfortunately the super helpful Dealer we used has sold up (Silbury Skoda of Cramlingotn near Newcastle on Tyne) and was taken over by another outfit, who.... well let's just say we won't go near.
  10. Hi Urrell Much as I respect your knowledge and the great help you are to everybody on the forums......and thank you, genuinely for that. I'm afraid that I have to disagree with you on this one. It may well be the case that all Yetis have KPH built in. But I am talking here about my car. As delivered into the UK, and so, as far as I am aware, it's never been near any VCDS or Carista software. Never will be either.....barring problems. It is a 100% factory delivered car. Delivered into the UK. UK speedo etc. It is exactly as we picked it up from our dealership in March 2017. It's not been modified in any way at all. So as a totally unadulterated YETI there is NO WAY on the Maxidot to change from MPH to KPH. I can assure you after 5plus years of ownership, that there IS NO SETTING on the maxidot to allow this. I know the maxidot by heart now. There IS no setting to do this. My model a 2017 Yeti 1.2 Drive, was one of the last of the range, had pretty well every extra included, but you can NOT change from MPH to KPH . There IS no setting to enable the change on the maxidot.
  11. Having had my Yeti new since 2017, I, like many owners have found it quite amazing ( stupid actually) that the YETI has no MFD setting to change the Maxidot display from MPH to KPH for occasional trips abroad. I don't think I've ever owned a car that doesn't have a dual mph/kph display before in over 50 cars....they call it progress......all sorts of legal waffle. The only way seems to be to either find a friend with VCDS, and most of us just don't have that option, and it's stupid expensive to buy for one off jobs anyway, so it's a bit pointless. So here, for those of you who may be thinking of a holiday in the EU, or anywhere else for that matter, where you need to obey KPH speed limits, is a FREE way to do it. If you or a friend have an old mobile phone lying about ( and there are plenty of them) which has GPS and compass settings, just use it. You DO NOT need a SIM card in it, so it won't, and can't use any roaming data, Just charge it up, load the DIGI HUD Speedo app onto it (free) pop the phone onto a car cradle or on the sunblind (somewhere you can see it), and the job is done. It really is that simple. No expense needed, and it does the job perfectly. DO NOT be tempted to use your existing phone as messing with that whilst driving can get you a big fat fine, and is dangerous. And before anyone says it.....I don't care if you disagree...Having had a car written off by one of these "phone warriors" who use phones at the wheel, and who swore blind he hadn't been on his phone whilst ploughing into us in a stationary queue of traffic at 38mph damaging 6 cars in the process ! Fortunately other drivers had dashcam footage of him, and our own rear facing camera did too. NOT WORTH IT, Just load the app, Switch it on. You can select from pretty well any colour you want, have MPH or KPH and set overspeed warnings as you wish and many other settings. Just tap the screen twice to access all the settings. We do this every time we go across the channel. never had a problem with it. What's not to like. Hope it helps a few of you. BE SAFE and enjoy your nicely displayed KPH absolutely free.
  12. No offence taken. Another thing us Crusties have is incredibly thick skin! 😂
  13. I think as a final say on this, I expect, when I buy a product, any product, that it will do the job for which I have purchased it. I shouldn't have to examine manufacturing dates. The dealers should not sell 'old tyres'. But such is the way of things in 2022. Nothing to do with age.... We used to call it TRUST.. and take it from this 'old codger' as you seem to be implying, LACK OF TRUST in a business, or in its products is not a good business model. I KNOW you normally change tyres well before the 1.6mm time. I always have done. I probably knew it before a lot of you were born..... Getting old doesn't make your mates in their 70's stupid! We have experience, wisdom and VERY sharp minds honed from a lifetime of work. We are ALL THERE mate! 👍 Right..... Off for my Horlicks!
  14. Roottoot, I too have had some very good Avon tyres in the past. But not these! These were shockingly unsafe. I'm 75 and have had around 40 cars, trucks and vans, but I won't buy AVON again. They're clearly not of a good standard any more. I know all about sellers responsibilities, having had a number of businesses but not relevant in this case due to timescale.
  15. The date of manufacture was 14/16 so well over two years old from manufacture even before they were fitted.....I've moved on..... The post is to make others aware.
  16. It's not so much a problem, as just another example of how these companies weasel out of anything and everything these days. We end up spending even more money, and they laugh all the way to the bank ! Shysters the lot of them. Just another lousy company who have lost another customer, but they won't be bothered.
  17. I've put this in as a general warning to all those of you who may be about to buy tyres for ANY make of Skoda (or any other make of vehicle for that matter). To say that I am disgusted with AVON TYRES is an understatement, so please read this and be aware of how this could well affect you. In September 2019 I bought a full set of 225/50 R17 Avon ZV7 tyres for my Skoda Yeti. I bought them from a local tyre dealer near to out then home, but since then we have moved house. I recently took my car up to our local garage for a routine service, and the guys up there pointed out to me that there was significant deterioration to the the tyres. Quite surprised, and knowing that there was plenty of tread left on them, I went out and they showed me the cracking all the way round the tread between the main treads as shown in the photos. The tyre depth gauge shows a still useable depth of almost 5mm so well within the depth legality of 1.6mm. In this state though, they will fail an MOT test. To say I was horrified is an understatement. Visually, the main tread is deep, and I had expected at least another 12 months from them. The car is used purely on normal roads. I cover about 7,000 miles annually, and the car is used daily, apart from during the lockdown, when it had less use, probably like most people. So I got in touch with Avon. You need to return them to the supplying dealer they said. As this is 340 miles away, and not part of a National chain, you'll appreciate that's not even an option. You'll also need to buy yourself some other tyres, while they examine them which might take between 6 to 8 weeks........So you can't use the car meantime.......in a real world that's just not possible. But the biggest hurdle is WHEN WERE THE TYRES MANUFACTURED? Read that again.....Not FITTED.......MANUFACTURED. Apparently there is a 4 digit tyre code on the sidewall of tyres. The first 4 letters of that code represent the WEEK of production The second 4 digits the YEAR of production. I suggest strongly that next time ANY OF YOU buy tyres, you insist on the tyres being from a recent production batch.....Mine were not. How many of us check that? Does anybody check it. The tyre companies are not interested when they were FITTED, they are on;y interested in when they were made, and if it's over 12 months you are wasting your time with any claim. I have, since, replaced these tyres with FRENCH Michelin. Duly checked the MANUFACTURE dates as I will do from this day onwards. SO SHOULD YOU. Be aware.....It's an expensive business, and has totally destroyed my trust in AVON TYRES whose HQ is in Swindon, Bluntly AVON......you deserve to go under. Your Customer Service is an unspeakably large pile of droppings ! Don't expect any business in the future......EVER
  18. Thanks to you all. Freedie. Unfortunately the newer (mine's a 2017) don't have that reset option as you describe. Only INFO and BACK. I don't know anybody round here with VCDS but I'm still looking for ways to remove this service warning which is more of a nuisance than anything else as I physically document all my servicing, and have no intention of selling the vehicle anyway. So thank you all you guys for your help. If I DO come up with an answer to it, I'll post to help others. And finally JR... You know, for a retired 75 year old guy with the usual number of nasty life related injuries, both mental and physical, and a great interest in my servicing, I don't think I do so bad. So your life history is not relevant to me. Not in any way. It was just a personal attack. And all I asked, was a question........So please don't respond to me again. Thanks but I won't reply to you again. You'll understand one day. Be kind. Not confrontational.
  19. Not sure what you mean JR... but as I have plenty of time to service my car, it makes sense to do it properly. Unlike most dealerships where fitting as many service jobs into a (usually) 7.5 hour working day after breaks to maximise profits is the prime objective. Nobody on this planet is convincing me that a FULL service can be done in 7.5 hours. So not quite sure how you've interpreted my post. Original question still unanswered. As to retirement.... Here's a thought for you. All the plans you have for today, and all the plans you have for coming years are just that. Plans. If you die today..... Your plans don't care. If you CAN retire, then do it. Too many people flog on to 'please' an employer or business, only to die from stress or overwork doing it before having any retirement at all. Now..... Do you have a solution to my post? 😊
  20. Thank you Edbostan. The car is on variable servicing, so I will have to look into ways of killing this message. I do have a laptop, but the RossTech stuff is too expensive for my pocket. I will research. Many thanks for your help. It's appreciated. I
  21. Having just serviced my Yeti at exactly 36,000 milews, I now want to remove the obstinate Service Warning which appears when I start the car, telling me that my service is due in 11 days. So, I've followed all the advice, which was to put on my Hazard lights, hold down the 0.0 button, and then switch on the ignition. That then showed Skoda Information System, followed by Service in 11 days, Then reverted to the Settings menu. So I scrolled down to Service. 2 options Info and Back. Info shows Service in 11000 miles or 11 days. then reverts back to Info and Back No option to reset it. Wasted 20 minutes doing this over and over again. no difference. Tried again NOT using the hazard lights...Success....Reset Service Interval. Pressed YES and it all reset. Or so I thought. Now, when I turn on, it says Service Overdue 0 Miles 0 Days..... It's NOT overdue....I've just done it.....so can someone suggest how I get rid of this stupid message. The car will always be serviced in accordance with proper intervals, but not by Skoda. I live a long way from a dealership, and I see no reason to pay somebody else to do work that I am perfectly capable of doing in my own well equipped garage. It takes me a week to service my car, attention to detail is more important than time, as I'm retired. I won't have it rushed through an over busy service department, unsure if the work has even been done, and then presented with a massive bill for the dubious pleasure. Anyone got any ideas. I don't have VCDS, but am happy to buy one (NOT the Ross-Tech which is far too expensive for my own occasional home use)....Wish they did a Home Use option. But if that's the way forward so be it. Recommendations please for a good unit, which will reset this service interval.
  22. Thanks for the info. I only use Android and Windows devices in the car.
  23. Thanks Urrell. Using a post by Welsh Boyo, I have successfully been able to install a speed camera poi database on my Amundsen Mk2 sat nav. Although this is not the Pocket GPS database, it will suffice. For your info, the link you gave me to the VW section is not applicable to the Amundsen. The link only works with VW units.
  24. Thank you very much to Welsh Boyo for this great addition to our Amundsen 2 unit in our 2017 Skoda Yeti Drive. Brilliant, and really clear instructions especially as we use 7-Zip as our go to unzipper anyway. The instructions are just PERFECT.
  25. Sorry, yes of course! Read it as pre- ! Thank you Urrell.
