I honestly think the whole BXE thing is over exaggerated.
I've had 3 BXE engines now, one with 201k miles, one with 221k miles and one with 398k miles!
It's a strange thing really, but often when your buying a BXE it's an exception to the rule of buying with low miles, make sure to buy one with over 80k miles because at that point in time if the con rod hasn't come through the block it most likely never will.
I had to scrap the passat with 398k miles because the car just needed too much work over all to justify keeping it, it was NEVER looked after either, one time I smashed the sump out driving and I actually drove it with no oil for about 3 miles and it was fixed and actually lasted another year after that, but the engine and gearbox where still going strong when I got rid of it.
Currently I'm driving another passat BXE with 201k miles and so far so good.
I thought I heard before that they actually fixed the BXE after a certain year? but maybe I'm wrong, anybody else ever hear this?
