It's definitely not just you, Alpine White. My old Octy had exactly the same problem, literally hundreds of tiny chips plus a couple of big 'uns (most from a previous owner). Thankfully (?) one of the big chips (the only one that occured while I owned the car) turned into a foot-long crack one hot day (remember them?
) so I had it replaced. Needless to say, the difference was immense! -
GJ plate means the car was originally registered in Maidstone, Kent. The 'G' part = Garden of England (covers Kent and E. Sussex). HTH!

I managed to squash my sill doing that (that's on a 4x4 using a trolley jack). 250 quid to put right:eek:. Avoid if possible!

Pulled out of my road one morning behind a dead ordinary-looking Volvo 850 (or whatever) in a flat sort of greeny colour. It was pottering a bit through the village but i thought "what the hell, i'll hang on and pass it on the way out". Got up behind it ready to go as we got to the 60 limit then woof! It disappeared up the road going like a bat out of hell. Needless to say i had a go at keeping up but to no avail. Finally caught the sodding thing up at traffic lights, at which point i noticed a tiny badge on the back which read (yep, you guessed it) 'T5-R'. Green light on and i never saw it again! About 240 bhp, weren't they? That'll be a good 90 brake advantage over me, then (standard Octy 4x4).

Sounds like whoever did your last service didn't reset the service light. Have a look at:

Bear in mind that this will move your car onto a fixed servicing schedule (the light will appear every 10k, if it doesn't already). Should suit, though.

Found a couple of used 53 plate Octy vRSs online which are listed as Rally Red, so sounds like an 02 bumper should be same. Hope that helps!
Probably worth checking with Skoda though if you want to make sure.

Quick measurement of the two and i reckon the Fabia spoiler'd be too narrow by up to 3 inches-probably look a bit odd!

Managed over 400 miles for the first and only time (well, 410 to be accurate), range of about 20 miles before i filled up. Mix of country/town driving boosted with 180ish m'way miles sitting at about 70 :zzz: cos the tank was a bit low. God, was it ever dull! 350-360 normally off a tank (4x4, that is).

Yup, that's right. Also found dealer cheaper than aftermarket.

Thorough throttle body clean did the job for me, too.

Getting the throttle body cleaned out thoroughly did the job on my Octy:). No probs since, i'm even able to drive straight after starting up if i want to! Sounds like you've got the same problem i had-worth giving it a go!

Jay - was it the Swindon dealership by any chance? I don't know what's been going on there over the last 18 months, but their service / QA etc have dropped massively IMO. I've had to take the car back several times to get fairly simple faults fixed (when they've insisted that the job has been completed).
I'm onto my 2nd Skoda & unless I find another dealer, I won't be buying a third.
No, it was in Oxfordshire, but you're right about said Swindon dealership. Heard some pretty horrendous stories about that whole group of stealers over the last few years. Work not done or not finished, lousy customer service...it just goes on! Wouldn't touch 'em.

Had a look last night and cleaned the metal sticky-out bit on the bottom corner of each door (not sure if that's the technical term!), i think they're the ones that press the door closed switch in. Drove to work and back today and no recurrence of the problem:). Dunno whether it's coincidence, or whether the sticky-out bits in question double as contacts, but it looks like it might be sorted! Cheers to all.

No, just the dash warning light. Wondered about the door switches, but as the interior light is fine i guess i'll have to think again. Cheers anyway! Wonder if there are any obvious connections that can come loose or short. Like i say, it's no big deal, just a bit distracting at night.

After getting all the big gripes sorted on my Octy, I've just got one little'un left to sort. The dash 'door open' light comes on randomly, especially when cold or when driving energetically over bumpy roads. It'll sometimes stay on for a while, before the next bump switches it off again; other times it just flickers on and off. I've checked that everything's closed, by the way. Just wondering if there were any obvious causes/fixes, preferably ones that don't involve spending too much! Cheers in advance.

Trusted mine until recently. Had an ongoing splutter problem (the usual), dealer claimed they'd cleaned out the throttle body but I still had the problem. Main dealer then suggested a fair bit of expensive work (incl new TB £££!)Took it to a local independent (Volvo specialist really) for second opinion, he cleaned the TB thoroughly and instantly solved the problem.
He didn't reckon it had been done before.:mad:Won't name and shame til i've spoken to the main dealer but VERY unlikely to go back to them! -
Both my Dad and myself had trouble with factory-fitted autochangers in our 2002 Octys, both ended up being replaced under warranty and were fine after the swap. Might just be changers of a certain year(s) that were dodgy. Still not the best changer in the world, though.

Same cure for my long-running hesitation/splutter problem. Local garage cleaned out the throttle body properly (unlike a previous garage who just SAID they'd done it!). Drives impeccably now:), can even drive comfortably with the secondary air pump running. I'd recommend giving this a go before replacing any expensive bits (dealer reckoned a new throttle body at £???!).

Nope, no problems with 4x4 system on mine. It's certainly proved its worth once or twice!

I run the same car, though with over 60k on the clock. As far as the cam belt goes, Skoda recommend it be changed every 4 years, irrespective of mileage. As the one you're looking at is 5 yrs old (like mine), it's worth finding out whether or not it's been done already. If not, it's probably due a change (had mine done a couple of months ago).
As for mpg, i tend to get between 29-33 on the 10-mile run to work (winding lanes mostly), but on longer runs 35-38 depending on type of road etc (topped 40 mpg once). Of couse, if i cane it this can drop somewhat(!).
Problem-wise just the usual cold splutter probs (see other threads on the subject) plus one coil failure (no big deal really!). Generally a good car, plenty of scope for mods (haven't done any yet).
