  1. I do enjoy reading all these comments, I wish sometimes I was a little more knowledgeable. I thought I had a pretty good basic idea of this but the more I read..... Oh, I have had the car repaired! It was the evap pipe and canister (god knows what that is) only £300!!! Yes I can see how it's a licence to print money. Although I understood, I think, the vehicle high power indication, I did mention this in the beginning and was told this would be sorted when work was complete. Well the indication is still there, so I've asked the chap on reception to speak with the technician and explain to me what this is, and why I'm still getting it. I know it's related to stop/start, and pleased in a way that it doesn't work, but would like them to tell me to see what their idea is. Mike
  2. You were spot on with what you said, apparently the battery is ok, again I didn't get the opportunity to speak with their technician. The engine management light was very likely the cause from a crack flexible pipe, something to do with the fuel breather I believe! The EML has been cleared along with the power to high indication. Car has been booked back in for next week to replace the pipe. All my thoughts of what it was has gone out the window, I need to speak with someone next week to see exactly what was done. I find, at the time all the explanations satisfactory, until I get back home and start chewing it over. I would dearly like to find a local garage that could deal with this and then have a better relationship with them hopefully.
  3. Nothing surprises me anymore, re what you can buy these days. I suppose it's just knowing what is good and what is not so good ill say. I've booked the car into Skoda for Thursday, so see what they say. Deep down I hope it's just battery replacement and the faults all go away. The one thing I don't like with a dealer, you don't get the opportunity to talk to the person who carried out the investigation and repair.
  4. Thanks for that, I'll be talking like the rest of you at this rate. Re that voltage, it seemed to go higher and higher as the charger continued, got me thinking i read it wrong now. I'll try again and check it, probably next week now
  5. I've just noticed when I was about to close, some notications, when I looked it said congratulations you've reached the status of apprentice. Wow, that takes me back, so I'm allowed to make a few mistake now then, ha.
  6. No, I can't see any battery spec because of this connection cluster sat on top of the battery. I was originally in another post, if that's what you call it, and I know you were all very helpful there. I saw the stop/start issue here and read through it all. That's what made me ask about the power too high message, which again has been answered for me. I see what you mean about popping the bonnet, but leaving the controls to settle. What a world we live in now, I would never have thought of that. I do recall when I connected the meter across the battery in the morning, the voltage started climbing back up. I'm guessing these readings were starting to climb after a minute or so, but I didn't take much notice then!
  7. Unfortunately, my car is subject to short trips, so I suppose I will get these errors. Those voltage readings were taken at random times from when I put the ctek charger on until is was fully charged. The 13.66 volts was when charger had completed its charge but was still powered on. The 12.2 volts was taken in the morning just to see what it said. All the readings were taken across the battery terminals. That's why I thought the 12.2 reading was a little low. My name is Mike by the way.
  8. Thanks for that information, it makes sense what you've said. I have bought Ctek 5.0 amp charger and set it to recon, it charged battery within a day to fully charged. Voltage readings were 14.40 - 16.65 and finally 13.66 when finished. In the morning I checked standing voltage and it was 12.2 volts, I thought that a little low, but I guess being an older battery maybe that was acceptable!
  9. Glad it's all sorted. I was interested as ive got the same type of fault, I am going to get a new battery fitted but just wanted to know the reason for the message on the car
  10. Not sure if there is a time limit on these posts, however, I read with interest the issues experienced. I wan't sure if the "power consumption too high" was ever answered, or perhaps I missed it if it was. With this particular message would you tend to think it was battery related, as I assume all is well now
  11. What an education this has been reading all your comments. And there was me thinking everyone is in the UK, i've lead a sheltered life! I did read through the Kamiq manual, but thanks for those attachments re the battery. Like a fool I thought I'll just pop out and check the battery acid level, that will instantly tell me what to do if the level is low. Lifted the bonnet, but of course this connection box on top of the battery restricts me from doing this. As it's so hot here, I will have a look when things have cooled down, then I will pop this connection box off. Re the charger, I haven't ordered one yet, still chewing things over, but thinking the CTek 5 amp would do me, unless.............
  12. Thank you both very much for all that information. I am definetaly going to buy a CTek battery charger, and I have had a look at the links you sent, very interesting. I have also looked at the operators manual, ( I never invested in a workshop manual, mainly because my days of working on my cars are over really) but the manual is quite informative. Very pleased I asked these questions now on this forum, there's a lot of helpful people out there that's for sure. If I do end up getting a professional to change my battery, I know what questions to ask to satisfy myself whether they will fit it and program it correctly. Even though I have had my Kamiq for 5 years now, I still find things that I didn't know, but have to say still very pleased with it. Thank again
  13. Wow Again! I find all this very interesting, and although I hadn't mentioned this, I had been looking at getting a new battery charger. One that kept popping up was indeed to Ctek 5.0 made in Sweden. Yes I am also an old fart, and generally I can take as much critism that anyone wants to give. In my day you learnt how things worked by taking it apart, and very often messing it up at the same time. Alas, today everything is in a black box, and controlled by the dreaded software engineers, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to know how these things work. I appreciate that very often this isn't possible anymore, but I would like to ask, how do these chargers recover what I gather would be perhaps a dead battery that's many years old. You see my experience of a lot of professionals is they don't like explaining what they've done, or they give an answer that requires an Oxometer. Thanks again for all your information
  14. Thanks again for all your replies. I won't be touching anthing at the moment, and will probably be taking it to somewhere I feel confident they know what they are doing. Still can't believe a comany which I previously described, doesn't know what they are doing though!. Here's a photo of my battery, I have removed the positive cover to try and show you the connection from terminal to this connection box on top
  15. @EMike perhaps it's just me, but I'm confused. The battery information, on the top, should be accessible without removing anything? Perhaps I need to take a photo, but the battery postive goes to a plastic box that sits on top of the battery and has plastic clamps either side to secure it. From here I think there are 4 fairly large cables, connected to this, that go off into the car electrics.
