parking sensors or reverse bleeper
Hi all. just recently bought a skoda fabia estate 1.4 2008. everytime i start up and put it in reverse to back out of a space it bleeps once then a loud bleep for a few seconds. what is it is it parking sensors or a reverse gear beeper. if its parking sensors how can i turn them off. ? who needs them if you can.t park without sensors then people should not be driving in my view. it makes people lazy and its unnecessary.

new clutch fitted.
Its ok mate its me lol thinking the pedal is either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. On my last skoda the clutch pedal was quite hard to press down and the spring on it was very strong when it sprang back after changing gear. On this car with a new clutch in its the opposite and the pedal is really easy to press down. I drove it round earlier and it seems fine i think it was because the old clutch that was in it before was so worn i hadn.t noticed how bad it was cos i have only had the car a few weeks. now with a brand new clutch in its very sharp and belts up hills now in 3rd and 4th gear whereas before it struggled.

No no what i mean chaps is usually when you start up and push the clutch pedal in and put it into first gear to move off the pedal doesn.t need be lifted up much at all for the car to go like a rocket thats what i mean. plenty of power and torque. is this normal or can it be adjusted ? i had a capri like this years and years ago after it had had a new clutch fitted. and i had to get the pedal adjusted because it was a cable type on those cars. but i think on these skoda.s its not possible because they are all hydraulic.

new clutch fitted.
Hi all. had a new clutch at last on this skoda fabia estate 2006. they did it for me within a day or two of taking it in. 😉👍 but is it usual though for the clutch pedal travel to be really high on it now.😕 i only have to lift the pedal up half an inch and its at the end of the street almost lol infact i stalled it 3 times at first 😂. so is this what new hydraulic clutches are like now on cars of this age and brand new cars. its a 16yr old car i know but i have only ever had clutches done or replaced cables on very old 90s cars years ago like when i had my capri and mk 5 escort. So can the pedal travel be adjusted on these or is it not possible ? or is it something that wears in and as i drive it more and do more miles in it the pedal will ease off and it.ll not seem quite so sensitive. ? Also when pushing the pedal in its a lot easier now than i thought it would be. whereas the old clutch that wore out the pedal seemed harder to push in and there was more resistance. 😕

New clutch
yes nta16 exactly and definately eh you are spot on. well i think what she really means is to get a car thats newer than the last 3 or 4 i have had and make sure its lasting. she.s a carer and doesn.t drive so she may get asked to do shifts out of the area so i think this is important to us that we get a reliable car. yeah i.ll get this clutch done and run it until next m.o.t next march and see whats what after that. Yes we have had such muppet governments and electric cars should have come in before mobile phones did no excuses now for moaning about the climate change. its past governments pratting about and arsing about all over the world from say 50 years ago that we are all suffering and paying the price for now with our health and financial circumstances. Electric cars like you say ought to be better and less hassle and easier to use and work on especially with the price they are at the mo. I think car makers ought to concentrate far more on the actual mechanical aspects of the cars instead of all this needless gadget crap. such as when the car talks to you and is telling you this is needed and that is needed and this needs filling or that needs setting or washer bottle is empty etc etc. makes people lazy only takes 2 ticks lift up the damn bonnet and check the damn thing. and cars that tell you that tyres are low in pressure. i check mine every week i always have takes barely 5 minutes. so i don.t need a car to tell me about tyres its ludicrously laughable i have got mates who have all that stuff and i just laugh at them. 😂 Never have been a gadget man and whenever i have bought a car i always get a workshop manual. service it straightaway and put a new battery on it. though i haven.t put a new battery on this one thats the first time i have ever not changed the battery on a car.

lol these replies from you all are ace. 😉👍 so honest and so true.😁 see like nta says cars now these days have far too much to go wrong on them. garages must be laughing all the way to the bank cos they know people can.t work on them themselves as they once could. All this digital crap on em etc. anyone owned or still owns one of those old volvos or saabs from the 80s and 90s. the volvo with the big dodgem bumper at the front and little wipers on the headlights lol i always wanted one of them. cracking cars and lasted ages too. and solid in a crash or a prang Yes i agree now standards have really slipped a lot especially on fords i would never have another ford flimsy and too erratic. yeah toyota seem the cars to have eh or kia.s. But a mate of mine still has the old shape mk1 nissan micra i think it is. only done 35.000 genuine miles he has it serviced every year without fail and its mint its blue and it looks like its come out of a showroom brand new lol. I like cars you can work on like the old escorts and vauxhall chevettes. my first ever car was a chevette. cracking car with that weber carb on it that sometimes had to be topped up and primed lol. those really were the days. But now all this digital rubbish has ruined everything and as cars go electric even more problems will occur as there is so much to go wrong on them. i doubt i will have an electric i.ll have to see but the price needs drop drastically if i do. This fabia estate i will get the clutch done on it at some point i.ll let it do another m.o.t and then as i said on the last post my lovely adorable girlfriend says she wants to get me new or near new car and i will have to make sure i get my choice right cos it needs to last me a long time. New clutch
Hi JR sure i.ll shorten it a bit i.m doing this off a phone so its awkward. I have a 2006 skoda fabia estate only had it 2 months. only done 600 miles in it so far. Clutch went last sunday its done 147.000 miles with 3 prev owners. As you will see from some of the replies i guess its not too bad for a car this age. My question now is do i scrap it or try get it done at a garage is it worth it. ? I only gave £250 so a new clutch and a mechanic to put it on will be more than that i.m sure. Other question was if i go for another make of car what do i go for. audi. kia. honda. nissan or what. ? 😕 Dave h

Thanks for all those replies everyone lol some of em def right what ya say lol and some of em very honest it relation to what i said. well yeah the prev 3 owners may have rode the clutch pedal and driven crap eh. i never do that ever and change gear nice and smoothly not bull at a gate and all heavy handed like some do. yeah well said about that i always flick it into neutral at traffic lights i always have and any sitting in nose to tail traffic. no what it was was this. a mechanic guy a mate of a mates had my crap diesel fiesta off me cos it was a nightmare. he prob sold that on and made a fair bit on it that was an 07 plate in brill nick but the injectors had clogged up on it as it had stood ages in my mates dads garage. besides diesels are ****e anyway crap for short journeys lol. anyway in place of that this other guy swapped me a fabia 1.2 hatch petrol on an 04 plate that ran superb for a few months. that had only done 48.000 miles then it simply siezed up on me and was a mystery why. ( prev posts on here you may have read about these two cars.) so he says oh i feel responsible for this so are you interested in another skoda but an estate 1.2 this time on an 06 plate. so i said ok and i met him half way with the £500 he had paid for the other one that he swapped me for the fiesta if you can follow all this lol. he says its a good car and its just been m.o.ted and its a sound car. but obv its croaked at 147.000 miles with no clutch now so i got to decide what to do scrap it or get the clutch done but is it worth it i.m not sure 😕.😮 so my girlfriend says she will buy me a new car or near new car when her mums house sale has been sorted which months away yet cos of probate. so i have noted what all of you who have replied to this post have said and i will go for another make. its pity fords are crap now cos i used to like my escorts that were and cortina.s. and i.d def have another vaux corsa B or C cracking cars and engines or an old astra mk 2 3 or 4 or 5 but not many left about now though any that are still about are collectable now. cheers Dave h. ☺😊😃👍👍

New clutch
Hi all. had my skoda fabia mk1 estate 1.2 for only 2 months. its an 06 plate with 147.000 miles on the clock i have barely done 600 in it so far. 3 previous owners to me. the clutch went on it on sunday and its infuriating because i have put new bits on it. new headlight ( mentioned in prev posts ) to match the other new one the prev owner had fitted. new wipers and upgraded all bulbs to L.e.d ones. new gear lever and gater. new door mirror glass drivers side. serviced it plugs filters oil and a couple of new coil packs etc etc. now i can.t drive the damn thing and i.m stuck. 😠😠😠 Had quotes from only 3 garages of 7 i have emailed so far. plus its got be towed or transported there so it has to be a local nearby place to do it. what sort of price would i be expected to pay for a new clutch inc v.a.t ? pity these jobs can.t be done in situ but beed a ramp and proper gear. these skoda fabia.s in my view are not made to last at all a poor design in some ways its as if the bodywork is meant to last longer than the mechanical parts are. very very frustrating i think i will change never have another one and go for an audi or a nissan or a kia or something. something thats made to last. anyway any advice or views on this from other skoda owners would be much appreciated.

Headlight unit renewal
Cheers for that no i hadn.t thought about beam alignment mate takes it m.o.t for me well my last 2 cars this ones ok till next march. levelling motors i didn.t know there were any lol is that the bit of a whirring noise i heard a few times when i tested that all the lights worked ok ? i.ll soon see if owts up when someone flashes at me. they did get flashed at before i put this new light on because the old one was so foggy and the brand new one on the other side put on by previous owner must have shone so bright compared to the other one. £77 was all i paid for it brand new off ebay. i was quoted £180 by car accessory shop and not even sure wiring was included in that one either.

Headlight unit renewal
Replaced a headlight on my mk1 2006 skoda fabia estate today and god is it fiddly lol 😬. i was glad to see the wiring loom is already fitted in the new light but you still have to take the small electronic module in the small black box off and fit it to the new light. this has a plastic threaded bolt through it that has a ball end that push fits onto a gromit and its this that took me the most time to do very irritating.😠 all the bolts and screws were easy enough and you don.t need to take the bumper off at all like it says in the book only the screws at the side and 1 bolt . i hope i get no bleeps on the dash though after doing this light because i always seem to when working on a skoda. 😂 all lights work ok and it now looks far better with 2 new headlights. one was fitted before i had the car and it looked so odd with the other one all foggy and faded. any briskoda members out there who have recently done a light themselves. tell me how it went ? 😕

Do i simply put a new battery on. or does it have to be coded in after ?
No mate there is no hinged cover on this skoda. there was on my last car though. yeah no not at all thanks for the advice on this. what i don.t want to do is fiddle about with fuses and wires connected to it until i know i can get hold of the same type of battery or the type you suggested i get to replace it. i can.t even see what make of battery it is on it. yeah fastening jump lead clamps on it is awkward on this car. the last car both terminals were exposed so it was dead easy on that one. its same engine a 1.2 yet what all the extra pallava is for on it god only knows.

Thats very helpful too cheers mate ☺😊😃 👍👍👍 the battery on this fabia has all these extra bits attached on the live terminal making it very awkward to clamp jump leads onto or to use any equipment with croc clips. a hopeless design. why not just have 2 clear battery terminals to get at easily god only knows. theres fuses. 4 other wires then a black box and god knows what fastened to it lol. 😬😬

Cheers very helpful 😃👍 but what a pain eh its obvious people need to disconnect the battery at some point or renew or recharge it when flat. i really do wish for the return of analogue cars without all this computerised digital crap in them. could work on them and do anything but not anymore. these garages must be laughing their socks off now these days knowing most things need a special diagnostic tool or coder to sort any problems out. 😠😠

Hi can someone out there tell me if its a matter of simply changing the battery on a 2006 skoda fabia estate ?😕 or do i have to code it in. 😠 i will try to get exactly the same battery for it but if not does this make it even more awkward ? lots of wires connected and fuses too on this car. i always like to clean the terminals and clean the tray first so it will take me a fair few mins to do it and its not just of a matter of changing it in say a couple of mins. hope someone has asked same question as i have and been able to get sorted without any issues.
