2018 vRS Tdi squealing
RaymondReddington replied to RaymondReddington's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Yes, definitely something driven by either aux or cam belt. It’s under warranty so I’ll book it in today, hopefully won’t have to wait to long - not keen to drive it on the off chance it’s cambelt related. -

Yes, absolutely - the frequency increases with RPM. -
RaymondReddington started following Tyre wear. , 2018 vRS Tdi squealing , ‘18 vRS Tdi oil(?) spatter in engine bay and 5 others

Car started squealing this afternoon, seems to come and go. Sounds like an ancillary of some kind or a tensioner/idler. Is there a common issue with these engines which causes this noise? TIA! IMG_0638.MOV

Not been able to get a photo but here goes. Just back from holiday in the car, done around 1400 miles in total. I noticed before our return journey that the oil level had dropped probably 1/4 of the way between max and min so maybe 250ml. On closer inspection there’s loads of spatter on the inside of the chassis rail which definitely wasn’t there previously and seems to have been chucked around by the aux belt. The thing is that the texture and colour of this is more like grease when rubbed between fingers and the patch I cleaned off is still clean as a whistle 400 miles later, whilst the oil level has dropped slightly again. Has anyone encountered similar? I’m wondering if it’s possible for something to have been splashed up into the aux belt given all the undertrays etc. Ideas very much appreciated!

DPF issues (sorry)

It’s not quite that straightforward though is it? The age and mileage of a car is taken into account as well as the price paid. For example, you’re not likely to get far with a faulty electric window on a 10 year old 100k car you bought for £2k, a judge is unlikely to rule in your favour. -
Yeah, at a 70mph cruise it seems to return about 45mpg

I can’t even get that out of our TDI!

Replace brake discs at the same time as pads?

Can’t say I’ve ever had an issue. -

In my situation I’m happy replacing a single tyre as they’re only a few hundred miles old. Normally I like to replace in axle pairs though. -

I know, happy Easter! -
Just had to have the car recovered due to a split shoulder on my 4 week old PS4S! Ran over a stone, barely felt it then 2 mins later the tyre pressure warning comes on! No spare, although have recently been looking for one so had to call recovery. Now looking at £170 for a new tyre and not available until Tuesday. Just needed to vent! F****** cars!!!!

I wouldn’t be driving on tyres older than 5 years anyway. Replace at that age regardless of wear. In practice I wouldn’t expect tyres in my hands to last longer than 2 years, as little as 3k miles sometimes!
