Hi folks,
Hopefully asked this under the right section of the forum, apologies if not.
I recently bought a 2010 Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI from a motor trader with 3 previous owners. There was a full service history with the vehicle and it seemed to be well looked after. After around a week of driving the oil light came on (during this week I would say I covered around 70/80 miles). Initially I thought perhaps the levels were low when I bought the car so I tried not to be pessimistic. Fast forward 3 weeks and I have put a total of 2.5 litres of oil into the car as the oil light has come on twice.
I asked a local mechanic about it and he believed the turbo was burning oil, so I contacted a turbo specialist who believed that more likely it was an internal engine issue separate from the turbo. It has also been suggested that the PCV valve could be a potential cheap fix if that is causing the issue.
I contacted the motor trader who denied any knowledge of the issue and advised he never had to top up the oil outside of services.
Generally I use the car for driving to and from work and the gym which are both around 4 miles from my home.
The car had 71k miles at the time of purchase and I've been using 5W30 Castrol oil, last service was in November where a full oil change and filter replacement was done. Anyone have any similar experiences or advice?
Cheers!
