  1. Folks cheers for all the advice and assistance you all have been great. I'll keep you posted on what comes of it.
  2. Unfortunately I bought the car on the 5th of July so it's outside of the 28 day window. The seller at this point is taking nothing to do with the issue which I'm sure comes as no surprise in this scenario. I read that outside of the 28 day window the seller is responsible for the cost of repair which even if true I doubt they would cover without legal action. An expensive lesson to learn on my part I suppose.
  3. I tried to get in touch this evening with no luck, but that's going to be my next course of action. Unfortunately that's all part of the used car market I suppose. Thanks again though for the input!
  4. Cheers for the input folks much appreciated.
  5. Hi folks, Hopefully asked this under the right section of the forum, apologies if not. I recently bought a 2010 Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI from a motor trader with 3 previous owners. There was a full service history with the vehicle and it seemed to be well looked after. After around a week of driving the oil light came on (during this week I would say I covered around 70/80 miles). Initially I thought perhaps the levels were low when I bought the car so I tried not to be pessimistic. Fast forward 3 weeks and I have put a total of 2.5 litres of oil into the car as the oil light has come on twice. I asked a local mechanic about it and he believed the turbo was burning oil, so I contacted a turbo specialist who believed that more likely it was an internal engine issue separate from the turbo. It has also been suggested that the PCV valve could be a potential cheap fix if that is causing the issue. I contacted the motor trader who denied any knowledge of the issue and advised he never had to top up the oil outside of services. Generally I use the car for driving to and from work and the gym which are both around 4 miles from my home. The car had 71k miles at the time of purchase and I've been using 5W30 Castrol oil, last service was in November where a full oil change and filter replacement was done. Anyone have any similar experiences or advice? Cheers!
