Just here to say "me too", but across the brand divide. I have a manual 2018 Passat with the DFGA which seems to have developed the exact same issue. I too have seen the sudden onset (no caravans involved in my case though!), occasional returns of power (though I can't trigger it as reliably as you with the "warm start" trick), and roughly 15% increase in fuel use. No DTCs. No obvious problems above 2000rpm. I'll update if I work anything out.
