They definitely should, I was definitely thinking worst case scenarios. Normally I do do a lot longer journeys but just as coincidence these last week and a half its been extremely low and the weather did not help. Really appreciate the idea with the charger from you both, sadly it will be a pain as I live on a main road so running a cable over the footpath if I even get a spot in-front of the house which rarely happens, are there any good battery operated battery chargers that can be used? or is this not really a thing? had a look around online and could not really find anything decent. Thanks @nta16 for the good read of the post you linked, I'm happy to have something slow as you said to help protect the battery in the long run as I can work around occasionally not using the car if I have to, to let it charge.

Quick update Drove to work, only about a 5 min journey car went absolutely mad... Error with brake assist, traffic sign assist, and the head unit activated component lock and nothing electrical was working really, car still started and drove as if nothing was wrong. as soon as I turned the car off with the key still in the ignition the personalisation colour came back on the head unit and I was like wait!!! I turned the ignition on and every error was gone and a new Low 12v battery symbol was displayed for the first time. after starting the car and letting the car run for a min the 12v error message went and the component lock was lifted. Why could it not have said this in the first place lol. oh well at least I know now it's the battery that was low. took it on a good drive and all is normal now so we should be ok for now. hope this brings hope for anyone experiencing something similar!!!

Yes I don't have the e-brake so guessing its just that hill hold assist. Yes in the service history the brakes were serviced and fluid changed in late 2021 and new front pads and disks when I bought the car. (although at first the dealer put pads in that were too small so they moved inside the calliper and made horrible noises)

I mean it doesn't do it all the time, mainly when cold but I think its only something that happens in specific situations

Here is my review of owning my car now since the start of October 2022 (3 months) Firstly I just want to say how great the car is, it brings a smile to my face every time. If you are in the market for this kind of car then go for it, it give the perfect balance between keeping the wife happy ("it's a family car") and keeping you happy with the great engine and good performance. If you can go for the facelift then I would as it brings the upgraded head unit with android auto and apple car play which was a dealbreaker for me and it glad I went for the facelift. I've got the 19" Xtrem Alloy Wheels and they look amazing and if you car good a reading the road then they should not be so much of an issue interns of comfort but if they are not a dealbreaker go for the 18"s as they are just better day to day. If you are looking for a Digital Drivers display they were only introduced for the end of production models from around Feb/March 2019 so no luck if you want this on an earlier model. obviously these can be retrofitted. Do note the front sensors are not standard (rears are standard) another good feature to look for is the electronically heated windscreen which I would definitely love on mine Please service your DSG every 40k miles and not the recommended 80k and don't forget the VAQ diff if you have it, this cost me £450 for both. (note that Skoda doesn't normally replace the filter for the DSG so find someone who will do that and do the job properly.) I think creaking front and rear suspension is normal as I have read so this is nothing to worry about on you test drive, please do correct me if wrong. If you drive about 55-60mph you will get 50mpg from the car which is not that bad for this kind of car, at 70mph it is about 45 which is still very good. in town though its not great, i've had and average mpg of 23 from a whole fuel tank basically driving just in town. Don't worry about foggy headlights as they do allow a bit of moisture in especially after it rains or you clean the car. This should disappear after a day of being dry. The undoubtably absolute best thing about the car is the ice scraper, umbrella and torch that it comes with. they are so useful and convenient. Love it!!! I know it's a small thing but the wipers overlap enough so that tiny little triangle is not missed near the end of the wipers. it drives me crazy seeing it on older VAG cars. The VRS models do not come with a spare tyre so check there is something to help out in An emergency like a emergency tyre sealant. In comparison to a W205 C-Class estate (only car I can really compare size to as we have both) the size is no match for the Mercedes, so much more rear leg room and the boot is considerably bigger. Doing long journeys in the back of the Merc was painful and in the back of the Skoda is so much more room and personally feels more comfortable. Basic sound system I think will be enough for most people, I love my music and I love it loud and i'm more than happy with the standard system Petty things I really don't like about the car: When you start a journey in the rain, the automatic wipers do not start automatically even if they are set to on, you have to turn them off and on again (I know, first world problems) PIANO BLACK PLASIC!!! Placement of the window switches as I always always roll down the rear windows by accident when trying to roll down the front ones I can't seem to see a way to see if my headlights are on when they are in automatic mode Why do Skoda use that weird strap/handle thing to close the boot, a cut out or grove looks so much less tacky Occasionally when on a hill and driving off and lifting of the break the car tries to find the 'bitting point' when to release the breaks and it can take up to 5 sec and in that time you start wondering if the car is even in drive or not... Defiantly go for the car if you are up for servicing it. Remeber if you look after the car, the car will look after you.

Hi all just wondering if anyone else had an issue similar to mine. was very cold the last two days and had not used my car, got in it today and I had an error for: the traffic sign recognition system (still working normally but an error message popping up every minute or so) head unit kept turning on and off saying 'remember you mobile' semi working steering wheel controls (if they did work the small colour display would take about 10sec to respond) In the vehicle stats bit in the head unit saying either 'turn on ignition to see status' (this is while driving) and something along the line of 'unable to check status' finally unable to change drive mode apart from that the car had no other warning lights and everything mechanically worked. Im guessing its just a battery low on charge as I have not done many longer journeys and the cold doesn't help. or something with ignition as the head unit was saying 'start the car' and the head unit was constantly turning on and off so maybe thinking the key was being removed I did have a low key battery which I have now changed but I don't think it solved anything. I know these issues can sort themselves with time. Any help and reassurance would is appreciated!!!

I think I was on the phone to a young lady, after I asked questions she never knew the answer and had to double check for a min or two, guessing she was still very new and in training or something. So having a deep look into the service history shows that at around 40000miles (currently at 55k) the VAQ was recommended but not done. DSG looks like it's not been done at 4 years but the spark plugs and everything else has been done. I mean I think it's worth doing the service with extended scope with them as it's free and doing the air filters myself as you said. But would you say do the VAQ and DSG with them also? What you can't offer a cup of tea??? unacceptable 😂 I find it very funny about the cambelt. funny how much they know about their job sometimes. I will definitely consider this!!! One thing I do wonder is that in a couple of the service history sheets the car comes up as the diesel with the Haldex so i'm wondering if that's the case on the info they are seeing at their end with the reg maybe??? Only on 1 or 2 occasions this was shown.

Hello all Just received my car a couple of weeks ago and i'm looking to get it pretty much everything serviced as I think not everything has been done as required and I would like to stay on top of things. For context I have a 2017 (Facelift) Octavia VRS 245 Estate I just got of the phone with a Skoda service adviser, I was quoted around £800 for: DGS service Haldex diff oil change Oil change with extended scope (the car does have a service plan but I was told parts like fuel, air filter are not covered in the cost?) And a cam belt replacement is due??? Im not too sure about the cambelt as I thought I didn't have one ahaha, maybe they can retro fit this hahaha. the cam belt change was quoted at £500 so the other work should only cost around £300 Does the £300 seem reasonable and when is the diff due a service as looking through the service history shows nothing being done nor with the DSG. Sorry for going on, just planing on keeping the car for a long time so want to make sure it holds on for that time. Thanks in advance.

Hello all, Still quite new to my facelift 2017 octavia, I'm wondering if a software update is possible for the car? There are a lot of bugs I feel which would need squishing such as the reversing camera turns off and on when reversing on some occasions, and i'm wondering if and how to update, I have heard that only Skoda do it but i'm just trying to figure out if I can do it myself as it can't be that hard? Hello all, first post here Hope everyone is doing great, I just received my new Octavia RS and have a small problem with it, nothing huge but its not working as intended. As you can see from the attached image my road sign thing is not working as intended, about 50% of the time it is reading signs wrong such as when I enter a 30 (the sign was very clear, big, and not dirty) it showed up as an 80 in the system. I can understand that it is visually trying to see this and may get it wrong so that's not the big problem. In the image attached the speed limit was 50mph and I am doing 44mph. the car thinks I am speeding shown by the '!' next to the speed limit. This is currently always triggering about 10mph under the speed limit telling me i'm speeding. even after adjusting the speed limit tolerance warning it still does the same at about 10mph under the limit. After starting a drive the first sign it is able to read will be shown but the error message 'Dynamic Road Sign Currently Restricted' is shown. I have tried paying around with the units where it might think its in KPH or something but no luck. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but on one occasion the adaptive high beam assists was not working due to the camera being dirty, after checking the camera it was completely clean and the high beam issue never came back. Thanks in advanced for any help.
