  1. Solved - by updating to the latest software for my scanner - cost another 65USD. There were some fairly large database files and a firmware upgrade for the bluetooth dongle. This time The DTC,s were correctly decoded and suggested the right rear wheel speed sensor. This was confirmed by graphing each wheel speed sensor output via the new software - finding a dealer with the part in stock was the hard bit. 20minutes to change it and all back to normal. Thanks for inputs from other posters.
  2. Thanks for the recommendation - Ill have a look at it. Bidirectional tools make diagnostics easy because you can actuate many components - so you can verify communication pathways and or voltage drops/relay function along the actuation wiring.
  3. Thanks for your reply. No coding and no new parts fitted. It is a 5 speed manual CJZD engine Fabia 2017 MKIII. I purchased MaxiEcu because it was a European company based in Poland - thinking this scanner would be great for all European cars. Unfortunately it has been the opposite experience for VAG diagnostics. I have reported such issues several times to customer support in Poland - but no luck. However it does have some good features with other brands so its not going in the bin yet. There were 3 errors reported on the message centre which are fairly common if there is a wheels speed sensor issue. The problem is to find out which sensor on which wheel so I dont have to pull out the oscilloscope to check each wheel sensor. I scanned all the modules and the errors above were reported - but these numbers need to be decoded into an OBD code or some other plain language. I put these numbers in google with no luck hence I posted here. Skoda has a reasonable following in Australia - along with VW/Audi - albeit we are a very tiny market. I bought this MKIII Fabia new - it was very cheap at the time. The car is extremely enjoyable to drive and I have just done 81,000 miles without an issue. Japanese cars are well made but have no soul. I could have bought a Honda but it was noisy inside, was poorly appointed and the stereo sounded like one from the 90,s. Maybe someone can recommend a good scanner model for this car - one that is bidirectional.
  4. HI everyone - just had ABS/Stabilisation ,Front Assist unavailable, errors - which could be a wheel speed sensor. I have a MAxiECU scanner with the Skoda module, and when I interrogate 11 modules I get the following report: Can anyone help me decode the numbers. System: Brake System ECU Name: Bosch 9 ESP (UDS) 000271 Permanent Unknown fault code 000224 Intermittent Unknown fault code 000194 Intermittent Unknown fault code System: Brake System ECU Name: ABS/ESP (UDS) 0x000271 Permanent Unknown fault code 0x000224 Intermittent Unknown fault code C10B422 Intermittent Vehicle deceleration; upper threshold exceeded
  5. Thanks everyone for your input. I wont be going back to the dealer. I have found a VAG specialist who has access to Erwin and may have more info. My recent - and last - visit to this dealer where I found out about the water pumps was to have the timing belt changed at 120K this week - and now the warranty has ceased I will do all my own maintenance In the USA it is law that anyone can enter their VIN and check for Technical service bulletins applicable to their vehicle - car manufacturers are forced to comply. Regarding toot’s query - the water pump is on the opposite side to the timing belt on this engine and it is belt driven. Not sure if that was what you were alluding to. Overall I still really enjoy driving this car - in all respects.
  6. Mine hasnt failed yet - I have no information on the failure mode - complete failure, gradual leak, thermostat failure or other. Best to regularly check for coolant leaks around this assembly now this failure point has been highlighted. The service manager here in Australia will not disclose if any technical service bulletin has been released - although I dont believe her, because she also stated that Skoda do not release technical service bulletins - sounds like crap to me to avoid liability. All manufacturers release bulletins to their maintenance people to highlight parts that need earlier than usual monitoring. Does anyone on the forum have access to technical service bulletins?? I cannot access Erwin in Australia - individuals have been locked out of access - directed by Skoda Australia and revealed to me by the Erwin administrators. The only information I have is that failures are starting to occur on this model due to the evidence from one dealer, and that there has been 2 iterations of the pump - probably to address failure points with the assembly.
  7. Has anyone with a MKIII had a waterpump problem? If so was it a sudden failure? Does it have plastic vanes or metal? I asked the my local parts manager if there was a service interval on the waterpump on this vehicle. He couldnt find a specific interval, however he disclosed that he has recently noticed an increasing number of water pump failures on this engine as he has had to order 6 water pumps over the last 6 months. He said it was unusual to have ordered so many pumps and because the parts database shows that VAG have modified and revised this pump twice - the latest part number being 04E121600CS. Does anyone have any other info to share?

  9. In case anyone is still interested - the CAM/ Crank relationship for the CJZC series is shown in this capture I took from my car using a TiePie oscilloscope. Might help someone diagnose cam and crank signals in the future. Signal is sampled from backprobing the 60 pin connector on the PCM J623. Thanks to Varoom for the info. BTW Erwin got back to me and confirmed that Australian individuals are locked out of Erwin by the direction of Skoda Australia - I have lodged a complaint with the appropriate anti monopoly authorities - not holding my breath.
  10. Went to the dealer here in Australia. Their maintenance schedule details a fuel filter change at 60k and 120k. I then went to the parts interpreter - there is no fuel filter in this car. The Skoda maintenance schedule is a fiction in regard to the fuel filter. They also told me that the Skoda maintenance program shows no timing belt on this car - I removed the timing belt cover and showed the belt on CJZC/D engine. Looks like Skoda doesn’t know it’s own cars! The parts diagram shows no fuel filter in the tank and no fuel filter between the in tank pump LP and the HP pump. The parts diagram shows no replaceable fuel filter inside the fuel pump. It appears there may be an integrated fuel filter inside the fuel pump assembly - like most LP pump assemblies that I have had experience changing. Maybe it can be pulled,inspected and cleaned? This is a bad design for countries where fuel contamination is common place.. Last year there were 10 diesel Ford Rangers in at the local dealer having fuel system water damage repair - close to $10000 in repairs on a common rail diesel. Have a look my diesel fuel pump from last year(different vehicle). The in-line filter positioned just after this pump was also in bad shape - imagine getting petrol with those sorts of contaminants in a Fabia. The middle image is the dirt that came out of the swirl pot in which the pump (first image) was located. The third image is the interior of the swirl pot after removing the pump. The fuel came from an independent and generic fuel station - same brand is all over Australia advertising cheaper fuel. Additionally in the Fabia, there is no sensor in the LP side to monitor pressure output from the LP pump - another omission by the engineers in my opinion. However maybe the fuel pump current is monitored and reported by OBD PID.

  12. Good morning all, Could someone please post an image showing the location of the fuel filter on this vehicle. I have had a look underneath but cannot see it. There should be one between the LP pump and the HP pump - maybe behind one of the heat shields? Thanks
  13. ApertureS - Thanks for the link on the tools. Pretty cheap tool - although he doesnt post to Australia - but my car is still under extended warranty so I have to get the dealer to do the work this time.
  14. Always best to grab an image of cam versus crank before a belt change. Doesnt take long and confirms exact synch after work is done. How do you know that the apprentice didnt get the job on your car? I am getting the belt change at the local dealer and I dont trust them. The only way to catch dealers out is have proof otherwise they just deny deny and deny. Secondly, a factory waveform as such can be uploaded to public sites to help others with diagnosing engine issues at a later date - known good crank/cam synch waveforms are very important as the car ages.
  15. OK maybe Ill try a VPN - maybe in the UK. Car companies in Australia love to protect their monopoly - we really dont have any anti monopoly laws here as the pollies are in their pocket.
