  1. https://m.youtube.com/@p_peja I’ve come across a YouTube video with a Kodiaq owner demonstrating the noise. This owner had the gearbox mount changed to a Tiguan part number 5QA199555C, which is the same replacement my local independent garage used at my request and which solved the problem. The group which owns Skoda Bolton paid the £215 parts and labour following a complaint email to the groups head office, in which I explained I was more than willing to take the dealership to the motor ombudsman. Regarding your old sunroof and whilst I’m not saying the VW dealership would have done, but garages are notorious for saying they’ve replaced parts only to get caught out at a later date. I friend of mine managed a Merc dealership for many years and now that he’s no longer in the trade he often tells how they would say they had changed parts when in fact they hadn’t. The dealership only got caught out once when a customer wasn’t happy with the factory paint finish on his bonnet, so the dealership told him they had replaced it but unknown to the dealership the customer had stuck a small sticker on the underneath of the bonnet to ensure he wasn’t fobbed off. Good luck and please post if you are able to resolve the noise issue
  2. Skoda UK only tell you what the Skoda garage tells them. Mine was making the same noise and it was the gearbox mount that I paid to be replaced which fixed the fault. If it’s the friction compensator does it not need replacing as this is not a common fault and therefore they can’t say its a characteristic of the car! It’s nice of them to say it’s nothing to worry about given it’s a 20 year old car. There are 3 models on this type of skoda 380, 381 & 500 (from the top of my head) these are nearly exactly the same and out of the three, two models have TPI’s listing the problem as the gearbox mount. The mechanic at Skoda Bolton wanted to change the gearbox mount as he thought this would fix it but that he was told he wasn’t allowed to as there was no TPI for my model. There are posts throught the EU where people complain and in some cases they have resolved the fault where the dealership was willing to go the extra mile.
  3. 100% it’s the GEARBOX ENGINE MOUNT. I too had my Kodiaq at several dealerships including Bolton Skoda who kept my car for 7 weeks. These dealers checked the engine mounts, the breaks, greased the CV Boots, they did something with the engine management but all of this made no difference. I was eventually told it was a characteristic of the car. Skoda have a TPI (recorded fault with a fix) and despite my fault being described exactly the same as my fault I was told the TPI didn’t include my model number. Eventually, Despite a local independent specialist garage telling me they thought the engine mounts looked okay I had them change it which solved the noise problem, and strangely made the car feel much better on the road. It cost me £215 inc VAT, which I managed to get back from the group which owned Bolton Skoda. Despite the car being under warranty and the dealership accepting there was something wrong with the car they refused to change the engine mount. Skoda are so backwards they wouldn’t agree to change the engine mount at my expense and that by doing so it solved the problem they wouldn’t cover the cost nor would they take up the cost with Skoda, because there wasn’t a TPI for the fault on my model and because the engine mount looked okay.. Funny enough I was so sick of Skoda that once the fault was fixed I sold the car and I also cancelled my £60k order for the Enyaq coupe VRS as I simply had enough of the really poor customer service provided by both Skoda UK, who took over a month to respond to my initial complaint and the crap customer service at the dealerships. Bolton Skoda returned my car with 5 miles left in the tank despite there being 3/4 of a tank when I dropped it off. Good luck and please post back when you fix it
  4. Thanks for the info
  5. Hi, Does anyone have an idea why a dealership would remove a SIM Card from its slot? I wondered if it was something to do with the customer being able to look at where the vehicles been?! Thanks
  6. Regarding capital gains in the UK if you live in the property as your main residence for 6 months it cancels out any capital gains tax. It might be worth checking as a lot of counties have very similar rules. The UK tax system is bonkers as a when it comes to businesses in that you can get in loads of debt, take all the profits from your company and declaring bankruptcy to avoid having to pay your debts, and as long as your a limited company the most they can do to you is to ban your from being a director of a company. It’s the same as certain professions as taxi drivers, who according to HMRC most do the job for the love of it as they don’t make minimum wage so get a shed load of benefits if they have kids etc. But then I know professionals who became taxi drivers for more flexible working and they’re making better money then when they worked as a teacher. Another one is gardeners, there demanding between £25 and £35 per hour, giving the excuse they only work half the year, Final point of the night… Did you see the TopGear episode where they landed a chopper on your Yeti. I must admit I did/do like them and think its what really helped Skoda become more of a premium brand. Night
  7. Sorry, I worded my last message quite poorly, I continuing from your previous statement where you referred being 3 years away from your state pension and the reference to 12 years I wasn’t sure if you were working in France until Covid, and as such if you wouldn’t be able to claim a French state pension, albeit only for the years you had worked in France Or if you were able to transfer your UK state pension in to a French state pension if you had previously paid contributions in France, given Frances current retirement age being 62. I wasn’t sure how it all works now as there were some really strange rules and reciprocal agreement on certain benefits when the UK was in the EU; similar to a rule which allows Employment Support Allowance to be paid whilst living in Turkey You must have some motivation to go renovating a building to open a hotel, especially in a different country. Have you looked in to the grants the French Government offers for energy reduction which includes grants for solar panels. https://www.connexionfrance.com/article/Practical/Property/What-aid-is-available-to-install-home-solar-panels-in-France-in-2023 and other energy savings. https://www.french-property.com/guides/france/building/renovation/energy-conservation My cousin liked and worked in France until last year and apparently the French Government paid for his solar panels, and other things like cavity wall insulation, underfloor insulation and loft insulation, I think he even managed to get a new boiler out of them.
  8. How you managing benefits, with you both being in France? Or does that not matter since Brexit?
  9. I gathered it was a caravan based on you location description. I was also being factious whilst being cryptic
  10. I don’t understand your gibberish, it doesn’t make sense. Firstly, I don’t know if your rudeness is because your French or if it’s because living in France has rubbed off on you, either way correcting someone’s typo is very rude and not socially accepted, as by doing so people assume your an arrogant little man with some form of inferiority complex. Google corrects spelling mistakes and highlights typo’s it’s just that I couldn’t be arsed changing it. In the UK its not that uncommon for a house hold to have more than one car, or at least where I live its most house holds. For all you know is the Cayenne could have been a company car, and the two seater could have been a 2015 piece of crap category ‘S’ insurance write off rebuild, worth £1500. I don’t see you commenting negatively on those owners with a £56k Kodiaq VRS which when fully loaded costs well over £56k given a Cayenne 4 years ago was £61k. And I don’t see why its a negative to pay someone to detail my car, I’m sure the chap who does mine does a much better job that you could, given he’s got 15 years experience and has all the equipment, experience and skills. Do you not pay people to do jobs for you?? Do you repair the roof on your static caravan or would you pay someone to do it for you?
  11. Thanks for the link. I do have the booklet but I find it somewhat wishy washy….. Previous to my car going into the dealership, it hadn’t been driven for 5 or so months which is probably when it was last cleaned, at which point the person detailing my car didn’t spot the paint issue. The car then did an amazing 30 ish miles before landing at Skoda for 6 weeks whilst they tried to resolve the grinding when turning left. When I picked up the car it was clear that it had not been washed within the recent weeks and as such when I returned I had the car cleaned, where the issue was spotted. It’s the lacquer which is coming away from the paint, well the alloy metal, theres a bubble about the size of a 5 pence piece, which hasn’t yet popped and which no marks, but you can see oxidation. To answer you question how do I know it would have been present during the time the car was at the dealership. I sought the advice from a specialist who restores alloy wheels, who informed me the oxidation occurs due to imperfections within the manufacturing process. Therefore, on the balance or probabilities, it is more than likely that the issue with the wheels was present at the time of the vehicle being at the dealership.
  12. Like I’ve said I don’t use it very often, so it sits in a garage. I’ve done 2,000 miles in a year of which 900 miles were done on one trip, following which the car was cleaned and put away. The other times it’s been long trips, where again the car has been cleaned and put away in my garage. The fact I pay someone to clean it, and the fact I don’t have it cleaned very often is irrelevant as the car doesn’t need cleaning as it’s in a dry dust free garage. The fact the person detailing the car noticed it is probably due to the fact it’s part of his job to notice these things. Whilst I would love to clean and polish my cars like I used to I am no longer able to do so. I simply asked about the warranty on the paint on the wheels, I didn’t ask for your opinions on your interpretation of the law; or for you to criticise how I look after a vehicle as you know nothing about me or the other cars I use. I purchased a 7 seater Kodiaq to make those family journeys easier, my own other car only has two seats and my wife’s has 4 the rear two are very small. So when taking my daughter to uni would have been really difficult, plus we thought it would become useful when taxing my son and his friends along with other parent. However, had I stated that I would have gotten some verbal from someone else. I thought the idea of these forums was for people to share experiences and to try and help other owners, and not to form your own opinions on limited information. If I had the Kodiaq cleaned at least once a week the detailer would have noticed it sooner, but as having it cleaned when it’s already clean is pointless. Part of my other gripe was if the wheels were covered by a 3 year warranty two local dealerships have had my car in for work and despite the fact I would have thought there would have mentioned it when detailing the car whilst within the 3 year warranty they haven’t. Because of Covid My wife’s last Cayenne was nearly 4 years old when she changed it and the lacquer started failing on one of the front wheels which Porsche picked up during a service and replaced the same day without even being asked. Hence, my question before speaking to the dealership.
  13. They do. But I thought it would be covered by some form or paint warranty, or at least be covered by some other clause
  14. How long is the warranty on alloy wheels on a Skoda? I’m assuming it’s 3 years because despite my car having been with the dealership in Bolton for 6 weeks, and at other dealerships in December and in March, non of the dealerships noticed the lacquer coming off the alloys, when the car was still under warranty. And as I rarely use the car it rarely needs cleaning. So when I had it cleaned chap kindly pointed out the paint issue in my alloy wheels. any advice is great fully received. thanks
  15. My vehicle specification sheet refers to Online service, with OCU, with head unitcoding, without engine immobiliser interconnection . I’ve spent hours trying to find out what ‘head Unitcoding’ means, what do you do with it and how do you do it? I know this might result in some amusing replies but I thought it was worth any shuttle abuse I may get. Thanks John
  16. Thanks for the info, Mines a DG381. Has anyone been successful in getting money refunded for the repair when Skoda have been unable to resolve the problem under warranty? I try to be as open minded when dealing with these companies as I know they have all these processes they have to follow, which unfortunately causes Skoda to have really poor after sales service. I provided the dealership with the TPI’s for the other models with the same fault, and when they stated it was a characteristic of the car, after spending £1400 trying to diagnose the fault I was so convinced it was the gearbox mount (thanks to everyone on the site) that I offered to pay for the dealership to replace the gearbox mount and if this fixed the problem I suggested Skoda could cover it under the warranty and if it didn’t fix the faultI would cover the cost. I was amazed by the response. In that even if it fixed the fault they wouldn’t be able to cover it under the warranty as they hadn’t diagnosed the cause of the fault. And this was coming from the servicing manager. I COULDN’T BELIEVE MY EARS!! I’ve offered to take my car back to RRG Bolton so the master tech, who stated it was a characteristic of the car, can listen to what the car should sound like. Anyway, following getting no help from SKODA UK during the 4 and a bit weeks, I’m now awaiting a freedom of information request before I take it to the ombudsman, and should that fail I’m going to take the dealership to the small claims court, but in incremental segments so that the dealership has to go through the pain of either losing at court or having to send costly solicitors. The joys of being retired
  17. Thanks for the above information. Personally I’ve found the staffs knowledge shocking. The dealership kept telling me how they’ve lost £1400, which they won’t get back because they were unable to diagnose my cars fault, which they later said was a characteristic of the car!! They had my car for 6 weeks and 2 days, although admittedly 4 weeks of that was waiting for some muppet at SKODA.UK to contact the serving manager!! During that time my car managed to travel 181 miles during its diagnostics, and on picking my car up my range was a whopping 5 miles !!! I’ve asked the dealership to explain the mileage whilst asking the question to leave a customers car the 5 miles in the tank not only bad for the car but shocking customer service, which seams to be in line with what you might expect from a crappy car in the hood old days but not when your spending nearly 50k on a new car.
  18. Mines a DG381, there’s a TPI (the same fix) for DG500, does anyone have a DG380 who’s had the same problem and who’s has it fixed either as part of warranty or out of pocket when Skoda has stated it’s a characteristic of the car?? These are the only 3 models the dealership referred to when I asked. I’m assuming they just relate to engine size and being automatic.. Does anyone know if I’m correct in my thinking?? additionally, the only positive point is that the Kodiaqs appear to be really holding there price!! thanks for any feedback
  19. My local independent VW/AUDI/BWM/SKODA garage allowed me to demonstrate the dreaded noise my Kodiaq makes. First response was it’s not a Kodiaq noise. The mechanic spent 20 minutes, without being told about the gearbox mounting, he suck something in the engine bay which cured the problem. Diagnosis failed gearbox engine mount. I explained my 6 weeks with Skoda and there finial decision it was a characteristic, which he laughed. He went on to explain mechanics worth their salt get better jobs working for independents so the master techs are either very young with only a few years in or there no good and so float from garage to garage. £224 which included the engine mount from Skoda, labour and for the 1/2 diagnostics. Mines a DG381 and I know there a DG500 with a TPI. I was wondering if those affected by this fault and who have lost out financially, for those under warranty or who are just unhappy, if you ladies and gents would be willing to put your views together to Skoda as a complaint, that way it will hopefully gather pace and Skoda will do something for not only our members but the other Kodiaq owners. must say on getting it back, it is a lovely confident drive. Shame Skoda hasn’t sorted its customer service. thanks for putting up with my waffle
  20. My car is currently with an independent garage who are fitting the part next Thursday. So I will update you all then.
  21. Hello, I have a 2020 Kodiaq DG381, which has the grinding noise when turning left. Skoda Morecambe diagnosed the fault at a front left wheel bearing, as did Skoda Bolton, who spent two weeks and £1400 the dealerships explained they had spent £1400 without fixing the fault and as they only received payment when the fixed the problem “had to draw a line in the sand” referring my to Skoda UK, as they are normally able to liaise between the warranty and the dealership to resolve these issues. Having no courtesy car and being unable to use public transport due to my disability I left the car with the dealership, as I was informed it would only be a few days before Skoda UK contacted me! After 15 days of which I was chasing on a daily basis, Skoda UK started its investigation!!! After another 3 weeks of chasing where Skoda UK hadn’t event contacted the dealership I demanded the case be refereed to the Case Managers manager. The next chap, which is whilst I’ve been dealing with the servicing manager, explained the dealerships master technician had stated it was a polite way of saying it was a characteristic of the vehicle, which is strange given Skoda replaced a wheel bearing and spent two weeks and half a tank of diesel trying to work out what the fault was. I offered to pay for the gear box mount to be changed if they agreed that if it resolved the fault they would pay for the fault under warranty, which they explained they were unable. Whilst my vehicle was still under warranty I’ve spent 7 month trying to get this resolved and not my vehicle is out of warranty. Skoda UK explained they would allow the vehicle to be checked at another dealership, where they would cover the diagnosis fee, but that any repairs wouldn’t be covered as the car was out of warranty and I handed booked the vehicle in with the next dealership before the end of the warranty, despite the Bolton dealership trying to resolve the issue as it was booked in before the end of the warranty. However, the next dealership would have to follow the step by step procedures as instructed by Skoda UK which means unless the next dealership is willing to go further and spend further they are unlikely to get to the fault. Moving on the mechanic explained the DG500 has a fault which is fixed by replacing the gearbox mounting, a TPI, but even though the mechanic felt replacing the engine mount he was unable as he had to follow Skoda UK step by step instructions, which included draining the oil, noise testing, etc. When i dropped the vehicle off it had slightly under half a tank of diesel but when i picked it up the range was 5 mile. Ive asked to go to the ombudsman which Skoda UK have supplied the relevant information, which is massively incorrect, wrong dealership along with what they’ve done and what they reported. Skoda UK and the dealership are now saying they informed me it was a characteristic of the car after two weeks and that I was reluctant to accept this so left my vehicle at the dealership, which is frankly lies, as the dealership had said nothing of the sort other than to contact Skoda UK. I hate the car now so have decided to sell but don’t want to drop this **** on anyone else, so I’ve I dropped the car of with an independent VW/AUDI/PORSCHE/SKODA garage yesterday to see if they are able to resolve the fault which, in there opinion (having test driven hundreds of these) isnt a characteristic of the car. Additionally, a specialist solicitor I’ve just employed commented on the fact if a dealership spends two weeks and £1400 trying to find the fault that it cant be a characteristic of the car as they would have known on driving the vehicle and as such wouldn’t have spent £14000 trying to resolved the faul. Sorry to waffle but I will keep you updated.
