The Condenser sits right at the front of the car in front of the radiator so it gets exposed to rain, salt grit etc. I’ve had to replace them at about 10 years but with your such low mileage it’s probably going to last longer. But really you don’t need to do any work on the aircon unless it starts to cause issues.

At 12 years old the condenser is likely near the end of its life expectancy anyway, so no point servicing it! Wait until it fails and just get it fixed and regassed at that point.

My 2010 Yeti 2.0tdi takes ages to warm up and never gets up to temperature. I've changed the main thermostat and it's made no difference and I am aware that there is a second thermostat on the EGR cooler, there would be a third for the DSG cooler but I have a manual. I've had similar problems with a BMW, main thermostat was fine but the one on the EGR cooler was stuck open so I'd like to change the EGR thermostat. Has anyone changed the EGR thermostat, does anyone know where it is? Google comes up with a number of different suggestions, none of which are correct. If you have first hand experience please let me know?

An update. I've been quite busy with other things but now I have the car running. The car had an engine change, I've done 2 Passats/Superbs previously, so nothing new, the other ones fired up straight away. Pretty much all but 3 of the error codes were spurious for one reason or another. I went from 24 to 23, then 14 to 13 and eventually down to three all related to fuel supply. Once I'd fitted the front bumper (which contains the ambient air sensor) I got no error codes, fuel was getting to the injectors but it still didn't fire. Lastly I coded the injectors and she fired up. All very strange as the last 2 fired up without the bumper/front panel fitted and without coding the injectors.

OK, I've been a bit short of time recently but some progress (or not). There's nothing wrong with the fuel pump or module, I tested them in another vehicle and they work fine. Haven't had a chance to fit the front panel/ambient sensor yet, hopefully over the weekend.

The car has had an engine change, no accident/flood etc. I’ve checked the VCDS on another vehicle, had it a few years now. I’ve charged the vehicle battery and get the same results. I have no problem idea why the temperature readings are so far off, I’m wondering if there is some sort of wiring fault/damage. The ambient air temperature is showing fine on the dash but VCDS says it’s 2000 C in one place and -373 somewhere else. Probably a default due to open or short circuit? The fuel pump has 4 wires as I’ve detailed earlier assuming 2 of them are +/- I don’t know what the other 2 do and whether the trigger is 12v, something less that 12v or earth? So I’m stuck with that one. I have the wiring diagram for the pump and module but it doesn’t say what these 2 wires do. P025a refers to the fuel pump module which I’ve replaced, I suspect that for some reason the module isn’t been triggered but I’m not sure why? I’ve read about the cooling fan relays causing a problem but not a complete failure for the engine to run. At the moment I’ve hit a brick wall.

The battery was fully charged when I went through the process, the slightly lower battery voltage is at the end of the session, same error codes with fully charged battery. There is no coding for the fuel pump module, its plug and play. The temperature readings are what VCDS is telling me, clearly they are wrong but I don’t know why they are so far off normal, maybe it’s because the fans are unplugged, because they run all the time which itself may be why the fans run all the time. I don’t know where the readings are coming from?

OK I had a couple of hours to play today. I've done another scan which I've posted below, this is an engine only scan, some of the faults like glow plugs have gone away. I've removed the fuel pump from the tank (yes there is fuel in the tank) and would like to test it, there are 4 wires to the pump (and another 2 to the fuel gauge sender) but I don't know how to test it, The colours are Red, Brown (+12v and earth) Yellow and White, it's the last 2 that I don't know what they do, any ideas? So the ones I have left which I feel may be relevant to the non-start because the fuel pump isn't running are: P0480 Cooling Fan Control Circuit. Not sure about this one because the fans are unplugged (because they run as soon as they are plugged in) P025A Fuel Pump Control Module. I've replaced the module but nothing changed P0070 Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Malfunction I assume this is the same one that feeds the external temperature in the dash, which is showing the correct value? P0090 Valve For Fuel Metering. Open Circuit. Is this a fault or is it because there's no fuel in the fuel rail? P2294 Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve. Open Circuit. I have tried to get the pump to run through VCDS as there’s a test you can run but it has no effect. There are 6 connections to the module but I don’t know how to check them or how to check the pump itself. I’ve also replaced the module. I’m going to have another look tomorrow. My current theory is that the loom is damaged somewhere because there are too many open and short circuits to be a coincidence. I’ll report back tomorrow.

My 2016 2.0tdi cranks but doesn't start. The fuel pump doesn't run, I've changed the module but no change, there is no fuel getting to the front of the car. Up front I will admit to being a complete VCDS novice, I can read and delete codes but that's about it. I've run a scan and the log is copied here below. There's a lot of ancillary things unplugged, because the front bumper and all the lights have been removed, there's also no coolant in the engine. The cooling fans have been unplugged because as soon as they are plugged in they run at maximum speed. I don't know if this explains the p0480 code or the fact that it thinks the Coolant temp. sensor 1 bank 1 at cylinder head: raw value: 2222.0 °C and Heat delivery temperature in cooling system: -273.1 °C Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, there's probably one thing that's stopping the fuel pump from running but I can't see what it might be? My ‘16 2.0tdi won’t start and the fuel pump is not running. I’ve had all the fuel pumps and they are all bone dry, there’s nothing getting up from the tank do the low pressure pump isn’t running. The fuse is OK No 10 under the bonnet. I could feed 12v direct to the pump but I don’t know which pins as I can’t find a wiring diagram. I think the full pump module/relay is probably dead but I don’t know if there is anything that could prevent it from running, like TDC sensor. I’ve read all the codes and all due to lack of fuel pressure.

I think the VCDS route is probably the preferred method, I just need a bit of help finding the right menu. I have VCDS but am by no means proficient, I only use it for reading and clearing codes.

OK, I've done a little bit of research of my own and agree that this is not entirely straightforward due to the auxiliary water pumps, the exhaust cooler and the liquid intercooler. There are 2 options. Bleed the system using VCDS (I have VCDS but need a bit of instruction. Vacuum bleed, although I've heard conflicting things about this.

I'm replacing the engine in my 2.0tdi so all the coolant has been drained (cam belt and pump replacement at the same time), it's completely empty. This is the first time I've come across the intercooler being water cooled in the inlet manifold. On earlier models I've just filled it up the old fashioned way, been fine every time, but is there a special procedure for this model with the revised intercooler? I'd rather avoid buying one of those new vacuum systems unless absolutely necessary.

This car would be worth no more that about £5-6k so it wouldn't make sense spending that much on it. If I can't repair the engine of find an economical replacement I'll get my money back selling it as a non-runner, which is how I've bought it anyway!

I won't be spending anything like that, the car isn't worth £4500! What happened to your old engine, do you still have it? There are a few engines around in the UK, prices starting at just under £1000, going up to £3.5k. There will be no labour costs as I'll do it all myself. From dismantling previous 2.0tdi engines, cam belt failure can result in anything from a few bent valves to a destroyed head and damaged pistons. The worst one I've seen personally had a destroyed head and a damaged piston, no bore damage, so a head and a piston would have sorted it, plus gaskets and consumables. Lets see what this one looks like once I've removed the head?

We've owned numerous Superbs and Passats, generally I buy them with issues and they get passed on to a family member. The last one had a snapped timing belt due to water pump failure, I just replaced the engine as they are so cheap second hand, the one before that had oil pump failure so again I just replaced the engine. Both of the last 2 engines were CFFB, replacements are about £600, but by the time you've sold the alternator, compressor, turbo, injectors, fuel pump etc off the old unit, the replacement engine cost is around £100, If the bottom end or head are serviceable you can easily turn a profit! My new project is a 2015 Mk3 L&K estate, manual 190bhp with a snapped timing belt again. The engines for these are a bit more expensive so I'm thinking I might rebuild the existing DFCA engine. So if anyone has an engine, or parts for one of these please let me know?

I gave up on trying to sort this myself so let the local VAG independent have a go at it. Had to wait 2 weeks to get it booked in, then another week while they waited for parts delivery from Germany. The headlamp control unit had failed, all the other components were fine. So with the new module from TPS, Diagnostic, coding and fitting the bill came to £580. Sounds like a costly repair, certainly by my standards because I do everything myself, but I suppose it wasn't that bad!

OK I got into this a bit further today. Started by clearing all 3 codes, the only one that came back without cycling was 01537 vehicle level sensor supply voltage not a plausible signal The other codes for the sensors themselves only come back when you cycle the ignition and the system interrogates the sensors before doing the little headlight up/down left/right dance. So my conclusion from this is that there's either an issue with the module or (I'm hoping) the power feed to the module. I've got as far as finding where the module is but I need a wiring diagram of the power feed to it, and where the feed comes from. So can anyone help me out with a wiring diagram?

No sign of speed sensor failure, headlamp washers all working. Scan with VCDS shows no speed sensor issues.

I've had a speed sensor fail before and got an ABS warning light, don't have that this time, but I suppose anything is possible. I'll go and check the headlight washers later today.

I have a warning on the dash which says No Bend Lighting (AFS) Function and a bulb warning (although all the bulbs are good. The car has Xenons and sensors on the front and rear axle. The headlights usually do a little up/down and left/right dance when you turn them on but this has now stopped working, the headlights are also in an extreme down position, so can't be driven at night. I have read the codes using both VCDS and a Snap-on scanner and the produce the same codes: 00496 front sensor for vehicle levelling open circuit/short with power 00497, rear sensor for vehicle levelling open circuit/short with power 01537 vehicle level sensor supply voltage not a plausible signal I've checked the battery voltage and the fuse no5 which also powers the PDC (which is working). I can get underneath and check the wiring to the sensors tomorrow (it seems unlikely they have both failed simultaneously with the module) but they could have the power wired in series, it's also possible the module if faulty. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this or know where the module is? Any help appreciated, someone must have had this problem before?

Thanks for all the replies. I've been through and checked a few things, like the battery (which is new anyway) and the fuse which also does the PDC, all ok. I still haven't been underneath to check wiring to the sensors because it's so wet here, maybe tomorrow. It would be very useful to get a copy of the wiring diagram so I can check the pins on the plug to the module, also I don't know where the module is either?

I've now had a second scan done using a Snapon Scanner and got the following codes 00496 front sensor for vehicle levelling open circuit/short with power 00497, rear sensor for vehicle levelling open circuit/short with power 01537 vehicle level sensor supply voltage not a plausible signal So all the same codes as I got from VCDS. the 00496/00497 codes for front/rear sensors, it seems unlikely they have both failed simultaneously The 01537 code for the J431 module seems like a possibility but I don't know where it is and therefore how to check the wiring which Ross suggest. The fuse for it is fine (also does the PDC which is working). Any idea where the J431 module might be?

I'm using a late version of VCDS so the data should be accurate. Been raining all day so I haven't been able to research any further. The fact that all 3 codes have come up at the same time is puzzling, maybe there's a supply issue or an issue with the module. Coincidentally, or otherwise, I've been having issues with the steering wheel controls as well, so I'm wondering if there's an issue with the slip rings or similar?
