Hi all,
I recently bought a bolero head unit (5Q0035842A) with a display (6V0919604B) to replace my swing head unit so I can have the bigger screen and Apple CarPlay in my Skoda Fabia 3. Also bought the OEM wiring harness to connect the HU to the display.
I wanted to test the units on the bench first before installing them in the car. I followed this video for instructions:
After connecting everything and pressing the power button my screen does not turn on. I also connected to the serial output to check if anything was happening on the head unit. There is some output on the serial port when I power up the unit, again some output when holding the power button on the display for 10 sec to reboot. So clearly something is happening, but the display is not showing anything, not even backlight.
Am I missing something? Is it possible I have bought a defective display or head unit? Or should I just install the units in the car?

Will this set of items work for my car?

Thank you for replying, guess I will be looking into installing a Bolero head unit. Also found some other very useful posts on this forum with good information about the parts needed and possible installation instructions. Tricky part will be installing the bolero unit into the dashboard without having a dedicated location for a unit in the glovebox, at least it looks there is no way of placing a unit there without opening up the glovebox. Also, if I manage to find a bolero unit, how does the decoding of the unit and activating Apple Carplay work so I am actually able to use the head unit? Is this something I can do myself? Or do I have to find someone to do this for me?

Hi A4NOY,
If I understand correctly you placed the MIB2 unit in the carrier where the original unit was located (behind the screen)?
You've cut away some of the dashboard so the unit could be slid in from the glovebox, couldn't it be slid in from the front?
Is the unit still fixed or is it loosely placed in the available space there?
Are you able to access the unit from the glovebox, or is it fully hidden inside the dashboard now?
Looking to do a similar upgrade (swing to bolero head unit) but since I do not seem to have a dedicated location for the MIB unit in the glovebox I was wondering how this unit could be build in.
Sorry for the spam questions 😅

Hi there,
I recently bought a Fabia 3 Combi JOY from year 2017. It is equipped with a tiny 5” swing head unit. I would like to upgrade to something with a bigger screen and with support for Apple CarPlay. Could anyone tell me what my options are and what I would be needing to upgrade? Which models are compatible with my car, or should I even be looking at one of these android head units?
My VIN number is TMBJM6NJ5HZ016991
Thanks in advance!

Anyone? Is this even possible with a mib2 unit? Or does it need to be connected to the car (or simulated car) CAN bus signal for it to boot up?
