Hello, I am an intruder here but this Skoda thread (and the relevant SEAT threads) are far better than anything I can find on any VW sites. Some superb work has been done here and on the SEAT threads and I would like to thank everybody who has contributed. I purchased my pre-registered VW Golf 7.5 Match Edition in February 2020 and so was very disappointed when the TMC updates stopped working only just over three years later.
I have followed these threads pretty much from when the issue first arose and it was great to see a number of practical solutions developed by the Skoda and SEAT communities. My car has the MIB2 VW Discover Media (MQB) (3Q0035874C) and came with V10 maps which I have updated three times so that I am now on version 2110 (ECE 2024). I believe the Discover Media is an MIB2 Standard unit. Based on the postings here and on the SEAT thread by Tell and others I purchased a SD card with V12 maps (version 1430 ECE 20/21) which appear unaltered and load up fine onto the system (they are certainly an earlier version than the current maps on my other card). I then applied the patch Update V2.7Z to the files on the SD card (I only want to use in the UK so used the patch alone rather than the VCDS/Obdevelen), replacing duplicate files, and again the maps work fine on the system. Unfortunately TMC remained stubbornly crossed out through a 2.5 hour journey up the M5. I tried putting the patch on again, turning the unit off and on and doing a factory reset on the navigation system but no joy. Is there anything anybody can think of that might make the updates work? The system is one of the last MIB2 Standards made before the Golf 8 was introduced so it is possible some late changes have been made.
A bit of general info. I updated my other SD card with the latest maps issued by VW in June 2023 thinking they might have been adjusted to cure the TMC problem but, what a surprise, they hadn't. Also my brother was interested in buying a secondhand Golf 7.5 at the end of July and mentioned this issue to the VW salesman. The response was "nobody uses that nowadays - just connect your phone up with Google maps"!!
Many thanks for any help anyone can give me.
