  1. can this be used on a 2018 Scout? What would it (typically) cost to get a garage to fit it?
  2. try a CR2032?..a little thicker so have to press the cover closed a bit more firmly after replacement. Recently worked for me on one of my 3 keys..the one I always use.
  3. thanks for that varadero guy..I didnt know that. I used the first "spare" one yesterday as I said in the post ..and I'll try the 2nd spare tomorrow.
  4. re cozi70's post from Sept.24. and my previouys one. Warning came up today to change battery..took old (CR2025) one out and it measured just3.0v. I put a "new" GP 2025 one in reading 3.3v. I opened the locked Octavia from 20 feet or so..walked next to the car..pressed the lock button and nothing happened? Tried 2 more "new" 2025 batteries all measuring 3.3v..remote did nothing at all . Found this thread again and put a new CR3032 GP battery in and the remote now works normally. Presume it's to do with the contacts/wear? Fob now nearly 8 years old and despite having 2 functioning spares I have never used them.
  5. Just reading this old thread as am having C/L issues myself today. Front passenger door has not responded to fob for a couple of years...have had to open it manually from inside on occasions it is needed (and lock it manually with the white nylon insert in the door frame). Asked garage to fix when it went for MOT in January said part (actuator?) was on back order..he was also waiting for one for another customer. Not a problem as all other doors and tailgate open and lock on fob. Today, out of the blue, the front driver's door did not unlock on key fob press...had to open driver's door manually with the door lever via rear door and a stretch! Fob press locks the driver's door , the 2 rear doors and tailgate. Took off the plastic key lock cap on driver's door as per manual. Would not turn...turned key around in barrel so buttons down/Skoda badge up..fully inserted key..worked fine and opened driver's door (and the 2 rears&tailgate manually) I noticed that putting the key in buttons up/Skoda badge facing down the fob fouls the door pull just by a couple of mm so the key will not fully insert and work. Hope this observation may help someone. Octavia Scout 2018. p.s. God knows what the fault is with the central (un) locking function using the fob..two actuators down?..or something else. Would be interested to hear people's thoughts on that. Thanks for reading.
  6. thanks AGF..good point..I think the headlamp washer on driver's side works too..but I'll get the other half to look/help me check tomorrow. The camber is very slight..minimal really. I should have said "this" happened between mid March and mid May 2024 & I don't think it was cold enough while away to do damage. I've lived with it since then and its gone through an MOT recently as when I top it up with 500ml it's all fine. I get your drift though and had it been very cold in late March (?..I've no idea I was in the Med.) I guess the reservoir /bottle could have split somewhere near the bottom and fluid just tracks along the bottom of the front bumper??. We did return to see plenty of mouse activity in the garage (car was not in it..parked on driveway.. garage being full of wood)...which is why I thought "rodent". I'll wait til it warms up..(June!?) and guess will have to remove bumper & wheel arch cover(s) to look see. Not a job I look forward to I must say.
  7. Was out of country for 2 months and car was not used. I came back.. started the car and the washer fluid low warning light came on soon after having "washed" the front and rear screens. Thought it was odd as I normally keep the level up on a regular basis. I put fluid in the reservoir..maybe a couple of litres..& the dash warning light went out. Came back to car a few minutes later and there was a steady drip coming from the rear of the front bumper ..but it was on the driver's side (the fluid container is on the passenger side). The low fluid warning light did not come back on but after starting the car and applying several long squirts it did. My guess is that while away maybe a mouse has chewed the pipe that carries the fluid to the driver's side headlamp washer?..or a connector has broken/become detached...but the car didnt move and prior to going away it didn't do this. All washers work fine but I can only put about 500ml of fluid in the reservoir after the warning light comes on..any more than that it will leak away. Any thoughts anyone?
  8. Hadn't considered those points..thanks again.
  9. Thanks for replying and the interesting video. It will probably be best for me to go back to an annual change..never mind the relatively low mileage covered.
  10. Thanks for that..you make some good points. I'll get it done with all the other stuff.
  11. For a number of reasons I haven't done many miles over the last (almost) 2 years since the last oil service (car is a 2018 plate Octavia Scout "2 litre" /1968cc diesel - 150PS/110kw).. though I have done quite a lot of very short trips during that period. Last oil service was done in January 2023 at 78184 miles with engine flush, valve additive, new filter and "Castrol Long Life-5W/30LL" oil. Today the mileage is at 80001....only 1817 miles done in almost 2 years...car running fine. I know the service interval is supposed to be 20k miles or 2 years but in people's opinion should an oil service really be necessary in January 2025?
  12. Replace battery warning message came up yesterday (Octavia Scout 2018). The "old" one was only 2.95v on the multimeter but still worked the central locking ok. Replaced old battery in the evening. Inserted new one in minutes (quite old I think but 3.25V) but it would not operate central locking? I've replaced these fob batteries several times before with no issues. I read this thread..yes the "new" battery was a Panasonic !? Also noticed when pressing fob button with that battery in a very fast flashing on the fob..noticeable in the dark last night..not that bright. It was seated correctly. My 2 other keys show a single bright flash when pressing fob button. Got another battery from the drawer this morning (branded JCB..best before 02-2033)..measured 3.32 v. Worked fine. Hope this helps someone.
  13. thanks EN..eventually I decided to postpone any such purchase and rely on mains charging.
  14. thanks Pete.. that's food for thought. Interesting, and makes me wonder if it's worth buying one. That's why I was hoping someone on here had actually used one and could let me know how they fared..maybe someone has/will. I guess just leaving the vehicle with no charge would run the battery right down in a month? What do others do in such a circumstance?..remove negative terminal from battery? What sort of fun and games might that produce I wonder?
  15. Thanks Warrior...that is good to know. I have used a mains intelligent charger via the battery terminal and negative earth point on the bulkhead several times before for an absence of up to 2 months and all was good on return. This time I will have no mains so looking for an alternative method. Anyone actually used a solar trickle charger through the 12v socket for an extended period..e.g. 4 weeks? Anyone got a recommendation for a good "unit"? thanks for reading
  16. Anyone had any experience of these? Skoda Octavia Scout 3. Will it work via the 12v "cigarette lighter "female socket" rather than croc clips to battery terminals? i.e. is that socket connected to battery even with no key in the ignition? thanks
