My Mk3 VRS has a double fault with the lights. First is the headlight(s) (and tail lights) come on when I start the car - even in bright sunshine. Sometimes they will switch off after a few minutes. Secondly, the N/S headlamp doesn't come on at all (master switch in manual or auto positions) - but - occasionally it does, for example when I switch off the engine at night and the get-you-home lights turn on, both headlamps work (this doesn't happen every time). Obviously I have fitted a new Xenon bulb and nothing has been disturbed - no new screen etc. Anyone have ideas where to look?

Can anyone shed some light on a headlight problem? The N/S headlamp doesn't work whatever the position of the dashboard and stalk switches with the ignition on, day or night. However, it does come on at night but only when I lock and leave the car - ie for "coming home". I've fitted a new xenon lamp, there are no obvious signs of damage, cable faults etc. The O/S headlight works correctly. Any ideas? Did I read somewhere that there is a re-set procedure? Thanks.

Can anyone enlighten me on what to do with this fault code. The EPC light comes on soon after starting the engine. If I need to replace the switch, where is it? Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. It's rare that you find a completely honest dealer. On the subject of the plugs, I chatted to a very helpful mechanic at the local main dealer and he confirmed what I'd seen on Youtube, you need a good compressed air supply and blow the rubber gaiters/sleeves out which then allows access to the plugs.

I've just bought a 2013 Octavia VRS and don't trust the dealer's word about a service before I collected it. I'd like to change the plugs and have got as far as removing the coil pack on No.1 but the rubber sleeve/gaiter is resolutely stuck in the cylinder head. Is there a recognised procedure to get them out - without damaging them? I've seen a youtube video using compressed air but I don't have compressor/tank man enough for this. Is it a case of cutting them out and replacing with new?
