  1. thanks - I won’t be chucking it around in corners too much - have another car for that purpose and the kids won’t appreciate being thrown about in the back! A decent set of all year round tyres will suffice for my needs. Sadly having checked with Skoda, they have none of the 19 inch rims listed in their accessory catalogue actually available. They can’t say when / if they will be. Seriously what were they thinking with the Propus Aero. Looks like a wheel trim covering a steel rim.
  2. Good point about changing for another set of 18s but if I’m going to the expense of new wheels I’d rather have 19s. Really like the Trinity 19s but Vega or Canopus would do. Given this car is being replaced by Skoda in ‘24 I wonder if they will bring 19s back into stock at all. Don’t think the likes of Oettinger or ABT do anything in 19 inch for these do they? Yes, Propus Aero are hideous. But, first world problems and all that.
  3. Well after ordering a set of 19s from Parks and paying for them, then ordering tyres from Oponeo, the order was later cancelled by Parks because the wheels aren’t available, despite what their web store says. Apparently no other 19 inch wheels are actually available in the UK and they can’t say when any will be available- so it looks like I’ll be stuck with the 18 inch Propus Aero wheels for a while….
  4. Hi all. I’m shortly picking up a new 280 4x4 estate and (first world problem) I don’t like the standard ‘Propus Aero’ 18 inch wheels. So I’m sourcing some 19 inch ‘Canopus’ wheels for it. I have to buy tyres and wondered what the OE spec 19s come with - I think they’re Bridgestone S001. Does anyone have experience of these as they’re similar money to Michelin PS4, which I have on a BMW E39 and quite like. I guess a speed rating of W is fine if these cars are limited to 155mph. Not planning on venturing to an autobahn any time soon… Apologies if I’m posting in the wrong sub-forum.
  5. Just to add - I’ve just ordered a set of Canopus 19inch wheels to go on it as I dislike the standard L&K rims ‘Propus Aero’. I’m guessing taking one of the 19s with me to use as a spare is a nonsense given the different sizing…
  6. I don’t think a full size spare would fit into the wheel well, from my limited research. My Alltrack has AWD and a full size spare, so didn’t occur to me it could play havoc with the Haldex.
  7. Anyone know whether this space saver would fit? Presumably any VAG spare which is 5x112 would work? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276155419699?mkevt=1&mkpid=2&emsid=e90001.m43.l1123&plmtId=700008&mesgId=3015&mkcid=8&ch=osgood&bu=43104712145&trkId=06d71810-83e6-4af9-a8b4-9b5027a4533e&cnvId=700003&recoId=276155419699&recoPos=1
  8. Cheers. That’s a relief then.
  9. I think this denotes that towing may be ok but not sure:
  10. Thanks. Salesman has said yes it will tow, up to 2,200kg. I have it in writing, although no picture of the VIN plate. Re the chain on the engine - I opted for a five yr 100k warranty so hoping that’ll cover any issues. Having given it some thought re the tow bar - we no longer tow a caravan - so the towbar would be used for occasional garden trailer duty - and carrying a bike rack. However it may be that we could find a roof rack which will carry four bikes in the event of any shenanigans with the towbar rating.
  11. No, I didn’t even think about it just assumed you would be able to fit a tow-bar.
  12. Oh dear, bad news for me and my deposit if that’s the case.
  13. Quick one - is it the case that if the vehicle doesn’t have tow bar preparation ticked from the factory, you can’t fit a tow bar? Or is that BS?
  14. Thanks. I wouldn’t actually know what pressure the tyres should be set at tbh - I would need to check the manual. I’ll ask them to do pressures to manufacturer spec as per the door shut sticker - but I’d really hope they’re on top of that! And - similarly that checking the oil and coolant is a given before the car comes anywhere near me. Nonetheless - I suspect some garages just don’t bother with the basics. I’ll take a check list and remember to check those things before driving away. just to add - there is no spare. I may try and source one.
  15. I hope it’s all ok. Perhaps I request a copy of the PDI sheet if that’s possible. We’re picking up on a Saturday so not keen on having any issues given I’ll be 450 miles away once home….😬👀
  16. Great, thanks for the intel. I’m driving up in my part ex Alltrack and aiming to stop over/Airbnb around Moffat on the way.
  17. I’m coming up to Perth. A mere 450 miles.. That’s an interesting point about tyre pressures, never thought of that but assumed they would check on the PDI. Will bring my compressor gauge too just to look like a nerd and irritate the salesman.
  18. Thanks! Hopefully a chain is good news although I know they aren’t always trouble free with some VAG products.
  19. Hi folks. First post. I’ve just stuck a deposit down on a Superb estate 280 L&K (one of the last ones in stock I think). Collecting it (all the way up in Scotland to drive it back to Somerset) in a couple of weeks. Very excited - it replaces a Passat Alltrack which has been great for 8 years, but I’m looking forward to having a bit more poke under the right foot. And a Canton sound system to enjoy some tunes on the way home.😀 Any other 280 owners on here - how do you find yours? Are there any foibles or issues to look out for? Also do they have a cambelt? Or chain driven? thanks.
