Ok thanks for your help I’ll see if I can get one… fingers crossed it’s that! is it worth trying to see what’s wrong with this unit and open it up?

I’ve taken all the door connectors out and just checked them for continuity all ok. All wires from plugs seem fine. I’m just thinking that it can only really now be the driver door motor/control unit? there isn’t really anything else is there? is it worth trying to open up the window motor unit to see if anything can be done there?

I’ve opened up the old switch unit I replaced last year was only the window switches sticking lock was ok. Tried putting it on live and putting an earth to the pins got nothing! there appears to be nothing going to the switch unit no feeds at all!

Backlight not working on the switch unit passenger and rear all light up. i guess I’ll have to strip the door down next I’m guessing its going to be a feed/earth maybe from the motor?

Any more thoughts on it still can’t figure it out bizarre really found the wiring diagrams and as you said how does the door locking button get affected as well as the electric windows! You mentioned earth connection before if that’s broken somehow going to the door switch unit will that stop both working? could I run a piece of wire from earth to switch connections to prove that?

Yes courtesy lights come on and off with door opening. Lights left on alarm sounds when door opened

FYI I also unclipped the brown clip connector in the door loom rubber, that makes the central locking operate when plugging in and out. So clearly power going through that to door mechanism

Ok battery disconnected for few minutes no change. central locking works fine on key remote. And inserted in lock. Turning key in lock does only open the rear windows though not either front. Front passenger works on it’s on switch ok. Don’t think the backlight on switches is working but it is sunny today so will double check that later.

Ok cheers! did seem odd that only just failed after battery went flat don’t know if that’s a coincidence or not! Pulled off door rubber and wires all look fine. Having central locking not working seemed odd as well. I did still have the original switch unit tried that in case they had failed nothing worked still.

So after eventually sorting my Windows out replaced the door switch unit that got the drivers working then new motor and mechanism panel as that had broken on passenger side. Been ok for nearly a year! 😂 now drivers switch unit has stopped working on all windows as well as locking not working all windows except drivers open separately on there own switches. Key in door will only open rear windows and close neither front operates. is this now the drivers module failed? Does that affect central locking as well? All fuses and wires seem ok. i did recently have the battery go flat as hadn’t driven for a while and left dash cam plugged in 🙈. its Fabia 2001.

My drivers window was similar intermittent so replaced the switch unit of eBay easy to do and was about £10. I would change that first.

What’s the sensor that comes from the EGR valve to the engine? Is that the DPE sensor? can’t find what it is thought maybe that’s got something to do with the fault codes now?

I’ll replace that I think I’m sure it’s not great.. hopefully that sorts power steering .. but not sure about the exhaust valve issue unless that’s also battery drain?

Update door window switch replaced drivers window now working! passenger still dead no sounds or clicks can’t see any wire damage.. fuses all checked and in right place.. also now replaced egr valve as after the long run home the engine management light still came on.. I’ve got an obd reader and cleared fault comes back on straight away with codes 402 403 407 all pointing to exhaust valve.. which I’ve replaced with a new one.. power steering light comes on occasionally then goes off again after restarting car… very intermittent.. I had found battery neg terminal was a bit loose but that hasn’t cleared it.. im thinking maybe battery isn’t great as general showing less than 12v (11.65)

Checked the fuse looks ok although didn’t check it was in the correct place. will check them over have actually now blown the red running light on door card messing about with it although couldn’t find the fuse which had blown. the window supposedly stopped working when was being driven and stuck down someone helped get it back up at the time which was some years ago and taped it up and put a wedge in I’ve taken door card checked wiring all seems ok.

Update had friends of family visiting brought along the computer Xmas eve diagnosed a few things.. agr exhaust valve faulty is the engine management.. now cleared and hasn’t yet come back. steering sensor fault also cleared hasn’t returned yet. Not sure what to do if that comes back again. electric windows drivers door is switch faulty ordered new block from eBay £10! passenger window totally dead checked wiring all looks ok. Maybe window motor?

Yes 2001 not seen fuses yet will look tomorrow thanks. so, maybe just the switches? Where can I get a new switch or are they repairable? I did pull the rubber boot between door and car wiring looked ok, and pop the black connector I saw someone said that reset it. The window then opened about 10 mm and stopped when switch operated. Had to close manually with key.

Hi all please be gentle my first post 😎 I’ve just taken ownership of my mother’s ( she’s stopped driving now she’s 91!) 2001 Fabia ELEGANCE 16V 56,000 miles only! in pretty good condition seems to run and drive well passed recent MOT. Going to be my daughters first car at 17! on checking it over, couple of warning lights came on driving it around power steering came on and went off briefly has done a couple times. its off mostly. Electronic Engine management system orange light is now on all the time it wasn’t on when the power assisted steering light was on. its not in limp mode had it up to 70 seemed ok. I read in manual it’s nothing to do with the fluid. I’m currently in Norfolk,, driving it back to Devon next week. Just wanted to know is this advisable given these warning lights are coming on? or maybe I’m staying in Norfolk longer to get it sorted out… 1 other issue seems to be common is the front electric windows don’t work.. I’ve done the manual check with key in door and drivers side goes up and down but not passenger? Thanks for your expertise

Hi I have the same issue neither window works … tried this manual check and driver window goes up and down with key in door.. passenger nothing at all? Any suggestions thanks?
