Edinyeti started following Skoda Yeti

WOW; our Yeti is eight years old.
I once got the last space on a Hebridean ferry with my Yeti (this saving a 5 hour wait for the next one) when a Mini Countryman had to come off as it was too big ! Only big on the outside though… I can imagine it’s a good car to drive and hope you enjoy yours! but can’t help wondering why manufacturers can’t make something new with the near exterior dimensions but huge capacity of the Yeti?! Then I might be interested in changing…

Late to the party, only just found this thread - but just wanted to say I agree with you, Col, and particularly love the phrase "The world these days is a bad place but inside our Yeti is glorious peace" Yeti poetry indeed! May you go on enjoying it ☺️

Crackling noise coming from behind dash...?
Yeech thanks Mike. Planning to trade in the car anyway due to other issues but this makes it even more urgent.

Crackling noise coming from behind dash...?
When I put the key in the ignition but before I start the car up I hear a faint crackling noise - pretty definitely electrical, it keeps going but is so faint once the car is started it's not audible. Anyone got any idea what this is, and if it's a problem - or early warning sign of a problem? Yeti 2016 2.0 TDi

Replace diesel Yeti with 1.2 Tsi - or different car entirely?
Wahayy, now you're talking! 😅 Could definitely tick most of my boxes. Still a Fiat though...🙄

Replace diesel Yeti with 1.2 Tsi - or different car entirely?
I had it on my spreadsheet, but it's crossed out as I thought driving position too low, and that's one of my musts. Not that I've actually sat in one 🤔

Replace diesel Yeti with 1.2 Tsi - or different car entirely?
I've added it to my spreadsheet! But every inch counts sometimes...I got the last space on a Calmac ferry by the Yeti being smaller than a Mini Countryman once!

My DPF hasn't actually been replaced - but the EGR has, twice! As I say it's been an expensive journey. That's just the short version of events. DPF Doctor was added to clear the DPF as well as having a forced regen. A new DPF sounded like a very expensive fix...the car has done almost 100k. Thanks, I have heard of these additives just recently and will definitely look into that. Someone recommended Archoil - same sort of idea(?). As I was wondering if I'd done the damage by using almost entirely supermarket fuel. That seems to be a subject fraught with disagreement!

Replace diesel Yeti with 1.2 Tsi - or different car entirely?
If only! well if there is, I'm totally unaware of it. I do lots of commuting for months on end including daily motorway trips so thought a diesel would be the best option but the def will only clear if the revs are really high so all the time I'd been believing it would clear itself it appears I'm wrong! Never once had the DPF warning light come on, so how could I know it was a problem...☹️

I like them but decided too long for me!

Replace diesel Yeti with 1.2 Tsi - or different car entirely?
I've had a really bad experience with my much loved 8 year old 2.0l Yeti. 4 different garages and various diagnoses/fixes later, it seems to be the DPF, and has cost me over £2k with no confidence that it won't happen again. Only now I understand that to do regens I need to be in a low gear at motorway speeds, to get that min 2500 revs... and I'm afraid of further problems, so I think I should say goodbye to the diesel. I would love another Yeti, but is that crazy...? I'd need to spend c £14k to get a low mileage 2016/17 petrol model, and the mechanic at most recent garage I've used says "the chains go" - although I think he must mean pre 2015 models only? I am comparing with Suzuki Vitara and VW T-Cross , could get much younger models of those for similar budget - but my heart still hankers after another Yeti! Nothing else ticks all the boxes of size/space/comfort... anyone got any recommendations? And would I notice very much worse fuel efficiency with a petrol Yeti compared with the diesel? I have been doing a lot of miles and was delighted with the efficiency - but that's been totally wiped out by the garage bills in the past 4 months.

Head gasket failure.... and dilemmas...
Further update… Unfortunately the blockage diagnosis and repair didn’t solve the problem. It came back and smell was awful, so I decided to take the yeti to a VAG garage recommended by neighbours. They diagnosed & replaced the EGR valve - costly but seemed very plausible, they were confident and I was hopeful. Unfortunately the smell kept on coming and a month later the coolant warning came on again…then a screeching noise on acceleration….! aargh… So back to VAG garage who so far say there’s a DPF problem and they need to strip the engine to find out more. Now wishing I’d traded in 6 months ago, much as I love the car. Any ideas?

Head gasket failure.... and dilemmas...
Update! Second indy garage did their own investigation, found a badly clogged up coolant pipe; flushed it out (twice) fitted a new hose, checked it over and charged me £264 - no mention of a head gasket repair needed at all! and so far - touch wood - it's driving well and no coolant warning. There is still a bit of a smell, which is the only worrying symptom...but I've now done c 90 miles in it with no problem, so feeling hopeful. Feel pretty annoyed at the dealership for not finding the clogged pipe - and of course for telling me I needed a head gasket & quite possibly new cylinder head - IF all continues to be fine I will get in touch with them to ask for my £138 back. I assume that if I'd taken their word for it and let them start the work, I would be in for a £2000 bill (and they would probably not have found that blockage even then?!). Not good, West End Skoda Edinburgh.

Head gasket failure.... and dilemmas...
The only symptoms (apart from coolant alarm & topups needed) have been a smell (but my trusted local mechanic replaced a thermostat & housing, thought that was the cause and said the smell would linger a couple of weeks) and I noticed that instead of filling up after 6 days (I do c 90 miles per day commuting) it was becoming more like 5.5 days and was wondering if I'd been putting in inferior diesel! No smoke & temp dial never tipped over 90. Maybe the regen thing happening after parking up a few times? Car now sitting at the latest garage I took it to other side of town, so I can't check oilcap. One other thing I reported to the TLM ages ago - a VERY faint crackling noise on inserting the key in ignition before starting up. Sounds like a faint breeze through dry leaves (I assume electrical) but he couldn't find anything to account for that. And a lamp fail warning light has gone off on three occasions when no lamp fail to be found - and then it went out again. I'd been wondering if i need a new battery, as it's never been replaced in the 6 years I've had it so I imagine it's the original from 2016.
