The motor appears to be working fine when not connected to the window. (Good, that's one problem ruled out). There is definitely something physically impeding the raising of the glass. I expect it would be obvious if we could see the whole thing at once, instead of being restricted by the hole in the door metal. Not sure about your advice about darkness -the midgies got us before the police.

In all the you tube videos the white plastic (and window) needed to be raised to line up with the slot in the regulator. This enables something to be poked through the slot to disconnect the plastic from the glass. We couldn't work out how to separate the two while they were in the down position.

Thanks everyone, disconnected the motor, and with a lot of brute force, got the glass up without breaking it. Too hot to think about what to do about fixing it properly.

That's what we were hoping, but it still won't move at all.

It really looks like smashing the glass is the only option, but that seems like a ridiculous design.

Hi, Our driver side window made a growly noise then wound itself all the way down, and is now stuck. We have removed the door panel and can't even lift the glass manually from the bottom. It will not move. I think we need to replace the window regulator, but it seems that we need the glass half up to remove it. (Need to line up the rubber bung with a slot in the regulator?) I just want the window shut for when this heatwave breaks and the rain returns. Then we can order and fit new parts later.

Did you have any joy? We have also got a stuck down window, with a similar story although mine is driver's side, on a superb MK3. It's not moving even though we have removed enough door that we can now access the glass from the bottom.

Thanks numskull, really hepful. A sensor sounds like a strong possibility, the lights come on more often after rain. I wasn't sure if I was not finding garages because I was searching wrong or because there aren't any to find. I've just got to figure out the logistics of getting the kids (and enormous car seats) to from Aberaeron now. There is a great soft play near which will go well on the bribery front.

Hi, I've just joined the forum as it was recommended to me as a friendly and helpful place. Our car needs to go to the garage to be fixed, and I'm hoping for some advice on finding one We live near Aberystwyth, which means the nearest Skoda garages are all over 50 miles away. Last time we had a problem, we took the car to Anthony motors VW garage, as I've been told that VW garages are good with skodas. I wasn't happy with the service we had there. After a lot of (expensive) messing around, I gave up and went to Fred Rees Skoda in Haverfordwest. This is a long way. They at least were able to diagnose the problem and we got the car fixed. I'm sorry to admit I'm not very car savvy or tech savvy. I tried to use the VCDS map on this forum to search, but it thinks my postcode is somewhere in the South Atlantic. The problem is lots of warning lights, they all flash up, and the dashboard says, infotainment system unavailable, parkpilot unavailable, error cornering light and more I can't remember. Despite this, the car seemed to drive fine, until yesterday when I was driving slowly across a narrow bridge and it went a bit berserk. The traction control came on, it lurched between 5 and 10mph until I got off the bridge and stopped the engine. After restarting straight away, it drove home fine. Am I right in thinking that the garage needs to have the right computer to fix the car? I would really appreciate any help in finding a suitable local garage. Thanks
