  1. They aren't the coolest car. I was however a bit annoyed watching it (and shocked) at the level of scorn most members of the audience had for the car. They were praising it when it kicked the mini around the track.

  2. Good:

That wonderful "yes, you've been done by a Skoda" torque

The overall feel of the car; solidly built with a nice interior

Six gears with a wonderful-feeling gear stick

Exclusivity - it's not that common around my parts at least

Looks - I love the look of my vRS

Fuel economy - 60MPG on weekdays. Only dips to 50 on weekends.

    Hardly uses any oil

    Bad:

    Rattles that change every week

Stuttering of the engine; though this is common with TDI PD's

People will always cling to the "cheap vw" image

Default head unit and speakers are lacking for the vRS's powerful image

No slide-out cupholder like my Polo had ;)

Not enough driver-side storage under steering wheel

The paint is rather soft; I agree with others here about this.

Default wiper blades are rubbish - but obviously this can be fixed easily

  3. It's a common problem - setting 4 just has the full voltage applied, and 1-3 are retarded by the resistors. As I remember with my VW Polo, VW insisted that the job could not be done by anyone else as they had to be VAG-approved resistors. I cannot quite see how this could be the case though.

  4. Look for one of those pine tree shaped thingies that sometimes hang off rear-view mirrors; they have one that is labelled "new car aroma" or some such

I know about them because I found one under the passenger seat of my 2nd hand purchase!!

Was that some sort of lasting freshness strategy do you think? Putting it under the seat?

  5. My furby had a beautiful new smell when I bought her (2nd hand) a month ago, and now that smell is fading; probably due to me adjusting to it, but other people who infrequently use the car have noticed the "nice smell" has gone. I often wonder what they used on her before the handover, but I can't be bothered phoning to find out.

I found another thread trying to re-create this with no conclusive results. Does anyone have any good recommendations? Anything that can be, say, purchase in Halfords on my lunch break tomorrow? I've got a basic glade thing that slots into the vents but it's pretty lame; you can only smell it when the blowers are pointed at your nostrils. :thumbdwn:

So, how do you all keep your car smelling fresh?

  6. Alas not.

They got divorced from thier previous husband, and being the casinova I am I charmed them away from him. They are now very firmly married to me (& the car) :D

Changing subject of the thread slightly (though as the thread creator I'm entitled!), how much did it cost to colour the wheels mate? I totally love the matte dark-gunmetal effect. :)

  7. I find the only way to get at the calipers properly is taking the wheels off  312's and 16" wheels don't give much clearance for cleaning.

I use VIROSOL and a bunch of tesco value toothbrushes to clean both the alloys and calipers etc. Great product & cheap compared to other alloy cleaning products.

A google search tells you how popular it is.

I am in love with your wheels. Are they single? :);)
