Unfortunately this is not a repair that can be done without access to the car. Having said that, 4 hours is not that bad! It'll be a day out and you'll not only get the issue resolved but also save a small fortune! Skoda dealers do not tend to 'repair' things like this. They can only replace major components which is why the cost is so high. The £1,600 mentioned is just for the replacement part required, excluding any labour (and more importantly, know-how)! SNS will be well worth the visit. As you will have read on many of the Google etc reviews, there is a comfortable customer area with Wi-Fi and 'proper' coffee. Also, dog friendly with a park and high street within a 10 minute walk!

The issue is caused by a fault in the Speedometer / Rev Counter cluster. In some cases it can be recovered without the need for any hardware. In other cases, replacement hardware is required.
