  1. Cool Thanks - Exactly the sort of answer I hoped for!  Thanks for the help. :D

I have looked at and driven other drift cars and I want something that is clearly MINE.

There are several things I am looking at to mess with on the engines and gearboxes of various Skoda vehicles!

Next one will be getting a 1.8t and auto to work off megasquirt.

  2. Has anyone played with this?  changing an Octy 4x4 to RWD only?  I know the haldex will need to be replaced with a solid link and the front drive shafts 'removed' (leave the cv's in place but pull the rest of the shaft.  Weld up the Diffs and then do some suspension / steering mods.

I havn't seen much on the 4x4 system used in these and havn't had chance to play with one!

I am also looking to simplify everything by removing all the extra electronics!

Everybody else is going Jap or German - I was thinking going slightly more modern than my old Rapid but building something I could drift easily!  A 03 or earlier Octy Estate (With tow bar of course) would be perfect!

I appreciate the Octy is VAG BUT it was built in Czech!

Any ideas or info on the 4x4 system appreciated!

  3. Damn - cant make GTi and as my car is still in pieces.  Cant do the week after as I am at an Archery field shoot.

I'm trying to get there for the 27th to get some much needed points in the RWYB Challenge!  If I can leave my mum at home I stand a chance of getting fastest reaction time even if I cant get fastest car. (My mum usually beats my reaction time by a few 1000ths of a second)

  4. Great going there....the Jag driver does seem to have the reactions of a geriatric sloth though! Looks good in the photos as well. Are you the guy who has attempted the PPC £999 challenge before?

Yes I am that idiot. I didnt enter the past couple of years as it seems the 999 challenge became a 'what can you by for 2000 and then say you got for 999 challenge!

  5. Yes I have seen a few cars running with 'high rev' engines and getting good times.

They seem to do quite a bit of engine rebuilding though.

There are absolutely no internal modifications but I am running 12PSI of boost and a 30 shot of Nitrous.  When I screwed up my gear shift, I did hit full throttle before I realised I had gone to the wrong gear.  While the engines usually take high revs, the extra cylinder pressure probably did the head gasket damage.  And I have been abusing it mercilessly down the track all year so it is probably due a hiccup!

Apart from the nitrous, everything else is out of scrap yards so I cant complain about the cost!

I was told there was no way I could fit a turbo to a stock engine................

  6. As usual I'm too late too!

Looks like Peterborough is quite central or howabout

this is on the A1 and A14, not too badly priced for an evening meal?

Santapod is pretty much out of events till next year but we could do something there - lots of room to make noise and look at cars?

  7. Thought I would share my win from the weekend - this is my current Track weapon of choice

1989 Skoda Rapid 136 still with a 1289cc Skoda engine.

And YES the smoke IS tyre smoke!

After a few runs I then missed 5th and got 3rd!  :wall:  Didnt seem to break anything and then I was challenged by a bloke in a 4.0 Jag to race.  (Its Mike a mate of mine in his other halfs Jag so I had to race him for 'Pinks'! )

Another mate put his go pro on my sun roof - the video is here http://youtu.be/yTM5bWZ1DtY He pointed it across track thinking it would be a close race and would show the back of the Jag.........

Quite a result and my best of this year of 15.1 @ 88 mph.  I have gone faster a couple of years ago (14.4) but have had troubles with turbos and throttle bodies.  The headgasket had blown when I overrevved earlier in the day so this finished it and closed the track for 20 mins while they picked up ALL my coolant!  THe engine is fine - a new HG and its ready to go again.

Still I did beat the jag by several lengths!

  8. I picked up some heated window switches as we wanted a water meth switch and nitrous switch on the dash but a little 'stealth'.  I then used a bi stable flip flop circuit http://www.bowdenshobbycircuits.info/page9.htm  to give a push on push off as the switches are momentary.

It takes a bit of effort but putting in the circuit means the actual switching is done away from the dashboard.

I also put in a different colour led for when they were activated (3mm led) You can also remove the logo with a sharp knife and colour it in with indelible pen.   :S

  9. Can anyone tell me if there was ever a Fabia auto with an 8 valve 1.4 engine?

Or if I could put an 8 valve engine onto the auto box?

I know it seems daft but the 8 valve engine has proved to be ideal for some of the modifications I have been doing to my old Skoda 136.  As in adding turbo and Nitrous.

Now my mother needs something other than her daily driver for drag racing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKoAW4-5NNY S

  10. just checked my timing slips to see what sort of data I have recorded and - well knowing how accurate the rapid clocks are :wall:

14.42 @ 98.7 mph and when I lifted off the revs were showing approx 6000 and mph was approx 110 - the speed and time are accurate on the timing slip but in car data is a little.................

Think I need to get some data logging  but then isnt this a bit computerised for a rapid? And there was NO WAY I was taking my hand off the wheel to take a photo!

  11. I'm looking around for a new head unit for my Octy 1

As I have to use an iPhone for work then being able to connect that and also use the head unit as a hands free would be good.

Anybody got any suggestions or tried a head unit they could recommend?

I have a hands free for my old phone (6310i) but we are now getting to the stage that they are hard to get hold of and dont do the email thing! (well they were only released in 2000!)

  12. I keep hearing that you can fit an LSD from a BMW into the skoda 5 speed gearbox.

Anyone got any information on this they would be willing to share? Also if it is possible to change the ratios as with my current engine mods my gears just aint tall enuf!

I would like not to have to weld up the diff for drag and Barrel Racing but I may have to get a second diff and do this if I cant get an LSD or a locking differential.

Currently the car is running 91bhp at 5270 and 126Nm at 4945. It isnt a screamer so tops out at 6000 RPM

  13. They never sit totally flush to my knowledge. I would hope they removed the valves, did the work, then reseated the valves to oem spec :) I know Jabba did this with my head.

    Thanks

Yep - looks like they did that but with the skim they did seem a bit further out!

Just managed to check it and I think its going to be OK - its A LOT of money if it goes wrong!
