  1. Hi - I will be going to look at a second hand car later... already slightly concerned it has a tow bar on it (as I have no plans for towing, and won't be able to tell its history of towing)

Is there a way to at least identify whether the tow bar was factory fitted? (at least that will give me some comfort that the car hasn't been put under an extra stress from not having a factory fitted one... springs, fan etc)

  2. How do you get the station Logo's on the Bolaro Radio in my Vrs. I've tried pressing the Station Logo button on the radio setup menu but nothing seems to happen.  We have a Fabia MKIII SE-L Demo car at the moment and the logo's on that radio are super duper

    Anyone  ?

    Thanks

    AG

I did this a while ago, but the logos on my O3 VRS are smaller than those on the wife's F3 SEL not sure why.

One other difference I noticed, is that her stereo sounds a lot better than mine - lots more depth to it, better bass etc

  3. I did the wife's dashcam in her Fabia a few weeks ago too - went for the front heated seats :)

As I hadn't got all the parts, I initially thought I'd power the dashcam from the USB (next to the cigarette lighter), however for whatever reason - low voltage perhaps? - it wouldn't provide enough power. So ordered a cigarette adapter, and a piggy-back fuse blade.

Annoyingly I had already cabled down the passenger side and behind the glovebox but fortunately my cabling could stretch over to the fusebox. :)

  4. Ok, so wired in the other half's dash cam today... well nearly... got lazy half way through it and wired it to her USB port (arguing that I'd buy her an SD card to play her music off so we can ditch the USB Memory Stick)

Anyways, it doesn't kick off the dash cam recording when the engine starts as it should (and does when connected to power via. the cigarette lighter)

    Any ideas why?

(for reference -> the dash cam is the Mobius Action Cam)

  5. I did an emergency services driving course a few years back. Roadcraft teaches you to work much further up the road than normal driving. When you have the blue lights on people do very silly things when they see you without thinking. We were always told to think on behalf of others and keep ourselves under control with all the adrenalin that high speed work gives you.

In this case I would have honestly had the hazard lights on before passing the lorry with a view to potentially saving this persons life. Fault comes much later. Keeping yourself calm and under control will save your life. No point being in the right and in a coffin!

    You did ask!

I can see how your awareness is raised when you have blue lights on and are driving in a different pattern to the rest of the traffic (ie. forcing your way through, sometimes at speed)... I suspect it would be very difficult to drive in that state all the time though (for example, your driving would be more relaxed, should your lights not be on)

It's difficult to tell from YouTubes downscaling, but he pulled in at the last minute just before the car in front went past, and he had time to swerve... because of the curve of the road, I saw the reaction, and him a bit later and could tell he was actually edging into the lane. I knew I'd gone past the lorry, but wasn't 100% confident (without looking over my shoulder) how far I'd gone past, so my eyes fixed on the danger in front, and also checked my rear view mirror to ensure it was safe to stop.

I guess the reality of a potential incident occuring, and the split second decision making can't be altered no matter what you do - and the theory you are taught, is great yet in reality not always possible to put into practice as your instinct would overtake it.

    Interesting thoughts though :)

  6. Ok, fortunately not quite as bad as mk4gtiturbo's footage in that no-one got hurt and nothing got damaged, but I'll be honest, I probably crapped myself a lot more than he did! :)

I think if I'd been hit by a lorry from behind exiting to take the M6(S), I wouldn't be alive, let alone have a camera that would've survived impact, but basically, this old guy nearly got me wiped out today.

Opinions welcome. For those that aren't aware, this is the junction between the M56 and the M6. The road splits off into two lanes (M6 North in the left lane, and M6 South in the right).

My question is, can I do anything this driver? (is there an easy way to report them???) It was an old man and I worry they are a hazard to other drivers... or should I just move on? As I passed them, they looked at me as if they didn't know what my problem was? (or did I just massively overact)

PS - sorry for the language

  7. thanks all - will only be front electrics so sounds like it wont be an option for us... really surprising and a bit of a ****ty corner to have cut!

not picking up till tomorrow so will double check though

edit: sometimes wonder if they hold back on these things so they can freshen up the range in a couple of years and add these 'new features'

  8. Is there a way to enable the one touch open of the electric windows?

Both driver and passenger side currently require you to hold down the electric window button to do a full open / close, unlike the Fabia 2 where you could just 'click' the switch quickly, and it would automatically fully open or close the windows.

Hope that makes sense... this is for a UK Fabia SE L

    :)

edit: the dealer states the option / functionality doesn't work on the new Fabia... I smell a big fat cop-out, so want to double check!  :)

  9. Wondered how I could get the logos on, so have tried this this morning. Downloaded the logos from skauts post: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/347583-station-logos-on-amundsen-system-help/#entry4173705

The logos appear briefly upon channel changes, but then disappear (looked at station info, slideshow, and the other options. It hasn't really worked and it would've been cool but not to worry I thought

HOWEVER, it's introduced a problem whereby, my radio is no longer changing channels properly. I have it set so 'next / previous' changes through the presets, but if i leave a channel change more than a second or so next time I click "next channel" (the arrows on the radio / steering wheel), it just goes back to preset 1. Nightmare!!! can anyone help me please? :)

edit: my profile is out of date - I do have a mk3 now :)

  10. Main issue I've had is I had to mount it on the RHS of the mirror as otherwise it would block a sensor on the back of the left side of my rear view mirror (I still have no idea what the sensor does. For me this has had a few positive points and a few negative.

It if's same sensor as Octavia 2, then I asked the question and got informed it's to help the car know the 'ambient' light so the rear view mirror knows if it needs to "dim" or not :)

Re: other comments, I loved the fact on my Octavia 2 that I could have the "cigarette lighter" power source for the cam in the cubby hole on the drivers side... it meant I could also feed up a phone charger from it and have my phone mounted and chargeable on the air vents to the right of my steering wheel... going to have to re-think my strategy when I get my O3 if they're forcing me to pop the power element into the glovebox :/ :)
