  1. I don't know if I count as 'old gang', but I was fairly active on here around 2007-2010. I still pop in occasionally, but have moved away from Skoda for now.
  2. I can't remember if I've mentioned this one before, but yesterday I was reminded of a local Aston Martin with M155AML.
  3. Hi all, im posting here because you're all really helpful and the Ford forum i tried was as much use as a chocolate fire guard. I have a 2016 S-Max with the 2.0 TDCI 180 PS engine. It needs an oil top up, but I only have the oil for the old Octavia (2013 CR 140). Handbook and oil photos attached, is the 5W-30 that dissimilar to the 0W-30 recommended? Could I use it for a top up before the service that's due soon? Thanks, Sam
  4. As the title suggests, we're about to swap our beloved Octy for a Ford S-Max. With a growing family we need something bigger, and the Kodiaq just doesn't fit the bill. I'll still pop in to Brisky occasionally as it is a nice place to be, but we're sad to be saying goodbye to our 3rd Skoda. See you soon, Sam
  5. BA66ERY on a Tesla. Probably supposed to spell 'battery', but I keep seeing it as 'buggery' HU11ROB is another regular on my commute.
  6. Looks like we've got this issue too on the Amundsen+. It is an intermittent fault, and often shows the vehicle travelling sideways when it is having its funny few minutes. The car needs to be booked in for other issues anyway, so I'll add this to the list.
  7. Sorry for the delayed update. It turned out to be the airbag slip ring, fixed at a cost of ~£320 (mostly part cost, £85 labour).
  8. Thanks. Its booked in this Friday, the lady on the desk thought she knew what it was. I'll update once we know more.
  9. I'm after any comments on the following problem(s) please - car is a late model Octy 2, built early 2013. CR140, had the emissions update in approx May this year. Yesterday, the display started to show "Airbag Warning", and the orange airbag light came on. The buttons on the MFSW also stopped working, so I wondered if its a loose/worn connector somewhere in the steering column? Or something more serious? This failure reminded me of a problem a few weeks ago, that may or may not be linked - so here's what happened. Parked car in the morning, no problems. Came back in the afternoon, started car, couldn't get it in gear. Multiple attempts, tried all gears, turned off and on several times - no difference. Turned engine off, selected gear, kept clutch down, attempted to start it - car kangaroo'd forwards, so obviously clutch wasn't dis-engaging. A few more attempts, gave up and rang for breakdown. 40 mins and 2 cups of tea later, RAC man arrives, problem completely gone. Several tests, still no problems. RAC man changes failed DRL bulb, and disappears. No further issues until the above airbag thingy yesterday. Any ideas? Are the 2 linked, or just co-incidence? We weren't planning on changing the car just yet (although a Superb/Kodiaq does appeal), but is this the beginning of a series of expensive failures? TIA, Sam
  10. Thanks Nick. No washing or dressing as was only minor, but still some soreness and loss of mobility in neck & shoulders. Lost earnings for me are carefully logged as I had to take leave for the initial hospital trip and car deliveries/collections (yes, plural!). I was just curious about her 'lost' hours - in her own time, as she was on maternity leave for most of the treatment so far. I guess it'll be covered under 'pain and discomfort' in whatever compensation they offer - we haven't discussed details yet, they wanted to know more about the ongoing diagnosis and treatment first... She's now back at work, so any lost earnings will be easy to claim. Thanks again, Sam
  11. Following an accident in January, my wife has been receiving regular physio, paid for by the other party's insurance company. They've also indicated that they'll pay out of pocket expenses, such as my lost earnings for taking them to hospital, hospital parking, her mileage to physio sessions etc..., but what, if any costs are they likely to pay for her time to attend these sessions? Is it calculated on an hourly basis (approx 80-90 mins per session x No. of sessions), or is it likely to just be bundled into whatever compensation payout they offer? If its calculated at an hourly rate, what rate is reasonable to ask for or expect? As its her own time rather than work time there isn't an obvious hourly rate, so is there a standard rate? Thanks in advance, Sam
  12. The Misubishi Outlander PHEV is £29k - £41k, so I'd expect the Skoda to compete with that. Probably starting ~£30-31k?
  13. Maybe this has something to do with
  14. The new ones (2015 onwards) have gone back to the sensible way. I had similar views on my Corsa courtesy car a few months back...
  15. My wife and I are only a few years younger, and with 2 small boys - this made very difficult reading but I can't begin to understand how you must be feeling, you have my best wishes. I'm sure that the Briskoda community will help in any way we can, but please do speak to a professional to help you all get through this.
  16. Posted here for greater exposure, Mods please move if appropriate. Long story short (might elaborate in another post in due course), but MrsCarp and the 2 tiny carps were shunted from behind today and the Octavia is a mess. All occupants OK, but I'm looking for a personal recommendation for a bodyshop in the Cheltenham, Bishops Cleeve, Tewkesbury triangle (or further afield if they'll collect and deliver). I haven't had a chance to have a good look in daylight, but as a minimum it'll need:- New rear bumper with reversing sensors New tailgate New n/s/r light cluster Respray and blend new panels I suspect that the floor pan and/or roof will need a little straightening too, so wouldn't be entirely surprised if it was written off. Hoping not though. However, having seen so many horror stories on here and elsewhere about the big national 'insurance approved' repairers, I was looking around for suggestions. We need a decision by tomorrow morning, when the replacement vehicle will be delivered. Both insurances being great (so far), particularly the other company, who have accepted all responsibility. Thanks in advance, Sam
  17. YE53YES TO05CAR Both on Range Rovers locally
  18. In that case, what were you planning to get her before this? The usual fall-backs would be bottles (drink, bathe in, splash on), plants, scarves, books, music/films, jewellry.
  19. It all depends on the insurer, if in doubt mention it to them. Our insurer wanted the full list of factory options over the standard UK spec.
  20. YE54COX quite a few times recently, but always parked, so no idea if the driver is male or female.
  21. I got it muddy! Got a little stuck on site this morning, it was churned mud, but would have expected it to manage.
  22. No turbo lag on mine (no turbo!), just a rev band without much oomph when you change up - suggesting that the ratios are too far apart (especially 2nd to 3rd). Closing the gaps and adding a 6th gear would make it much more driveable.
  23. I have a courtesy car for a few days, while the green machine (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/335944-vauxhall-corsa-13cdti-ecoflex-ac-stopstart/) goes in for some warranty work (7400 miles on the clock). Loss of power at ~3000rpm along with service light blinking, recovers after approx 3-4 seconds. Broken driver's seat height adjuster handle. Broken lug on fuel filler which prevents it from 'stowing' inside the flap during filling. This one has done approximately 900 miles, so partly run in. The car seems smooth and quiet, and rather sprightly and well suited to urban driving. The gear ratios seem too far apart for faster roads, there's a noticeable lag (almost like turbo lag) when changing up a gear. I'm not sure of the exact spec, but this car has quite a few features that probably aren't standard on the base model:- Heated front screen Heated front seats - too hot! Heated steering wheel - too hot! 'City' mode with lighter steering - the standard is too light and doesn't give much feel, I can't see why anyone would want it any lighter? Cruise control & speed limiter Auto lights Front fog lights Auto dimming rear view mirror - no on/off switch like my old Octy had, and not sensitive enough. Tyre pressure monitor - which displays PSI for each corner on the dash Bluetooth 'phone connection Alloy wheels Overall its ok, but I'm not looking forward to the fuel bill - the trip computer suggests I'm getting around 30mpg compared to my 51.8 long term average for the green jobby. My main gripe is the really shallow seat base - it stops about 4" (10cm) short of the back of my knees, and feels as though I'm perching on a bar stool rather than sitting on/in a proper seat. As a consequence I can't get properly comfortable, and don't want to try any longer (>15 mins) journeys in it - although I may still have it for a cross-country trip to Peterborough (~3 hours) next week, so watch this space for an update if that happens.
  24. 8 miles, anything from 12-30 mins. Usually about 15-20 mins. Used to do 60 miles, 64 mins early morning, 75 mins coming home.
