  1. Hi y'all, Being equipped with a MIB1 Amundsen, I see loads of folks "upgrading" to MIB2 or aftermarket units to get Carplay/Android Auto functionality. Temptation is quite the thing, give me shiny new stuff! However, the practical side of my nature (cheers, parents!) doesn't see that much extra value for me out of spending a few hundred quid. In no specific order.. 1)The MIB1 works fine with my phone (my main music player) on Bluetooth and the SD card in the glovebox if I can't be bothered switching BT on. 2) Satnav-wise (there was supposed to be a SD card in the other slot, but locl Skoda Select are "looking for one", and from what I've read it'd be way out of date if they do fine one. I use Google Maps on the phone in a suitable cradle anyway, and I can just take it with me when I drive a different vehicle. 3) I really can't see any value in having videos playing while I'm driving, quite enough going on to be looking at all around me! 4) Not bothered about streaming services, as I already have a few monthsworth of music or drama on the phone, and don't have any of the streaming accounts so far. 5)The MIB1 is hooked into the car's system and appears to do any of those things it needs to. For further functions I'm weighing up OBD11 or VCDS. Is there anything else I've missed that should really make me consider an Android Auto unit? I'd also assume that most of the non-Skoda units wouldn't hook up to the car computer.
  2. Overloaded as in just too much light bouncing around, rather then heat?
  3. Just noticed the Smart are still listed as 800lm, same as the standard ones. Hmmm..
  4. Blimey! I'll keep them on the radar, but a bit rich for now. Are they plug-and-play, or any further adapter needed?
  5. Excellent, just scored a pair of the covers from D.M.Keith parts dept, so waiting for some nicer weather to give it a go.
  6. Hi all, Has anyone successfully improved on the standard front fogs on a pre-fl mk.3? I'm not interested in them looking cool or coming on when I corner or indicate, I'm interested in them being usable in fog as I often have to navigate dark roads in the Pennine hills. Currently the standard Osram 46212 35W bulbs are so dim as to be seriously useless. I'm better off with dipped beam. Previous cars had 55W fog bulbs, but I keep seeing warnings about the chance of melting plastic housings.. obvs don't want that! Anyone used things like Nightbreakers with any degree of success? I'm not bothered about colour, either, so would equally happily go down the yellow route.
  7. I had one done in 2019-20 (turn of the century injury coming back to bite me), and I was asked if I had a preference. They also said distance is the default and most common request.
  8. Just to revive and update this thread, here's the current (November 2025) link to Skoda's page for manuals download. You'll need your VIN. I get the impression they change the address from time to time, in order to keep us all on our toes. Škoda Owner's ManualsOn this page we offer you the opportunity to download the owner's manual and any other documents for the car.
  9. Hi all, as per the title, really.. just changed from a Toyota Corolla that I took from 80-odd k to over 150k, but the dreaded rust was taking its toll. Just got a 10 yrs old Octavia 1.4 TSi from Keith's in Bradford, and of course joining the users' forum is one of the first jobs so as to look for information. First impressions are really good, so fingers crossed!
