Hi everyone, If you are struggling with your Karoq (most commonly Model Year 2023) completely ignoring the remote control after a key fob battery replacement, and the standard emergency syncing procedure (holding the key near the start button) doesn't work, don't waste your time trying to fix it at home. It’s a known software bug. What is the issue: There is a software bug in the KESSY (Keyless Entry) control unit on certain 2023 production runs. When the battery voltage drops or when you remove the old battery, the control unit completely loses its synchronization data (cryptographic keys) and forgets the key fob for good. The standard manual sync described in the owner's manual will not work because the car now sees the key as a completely foreign object. What is the solution: Head to an authorized dealer: Skoda has an official TPI (Technical Product Information) issued for this exact issue. What they will do: The dealer needs to flash a new software version to the KESSY unit, which fixes the bug and prevents this from happening during future battery replacements. Important: You must bring ALL keys to the dealership. After the software update, the technician has to perform an online adaptation and reprogram all keys to the car via ODIS connected to the factory servers. If your car is still under warranty, this should be covered and fixed free of charge. Hope this saves someone the frustration of buying multiple spare batteries!
