  1. Hi all, Looking for some technical guidance on a CANbus/diagnostic failure following an ABS pump replacement on my 2012 Octavia Mk2 FL (1.4 TSI CAXA, Bosch 8.2 ESP). The car is booked into an auto‑electrical specialist next week, but I want to ensure I’ve covered all plausible electrical causes before it goes in. Vehicle / System Details2012 Octavia Mk2 FL 1.4 TSI CAXA Bosch 8.2 ESP Correct hydraulic block: 1K0 614 117 S Correct control module: 1K0 907 379 AK PR‑codes and VIN match the fitted components BackgroundThe car failed its MOT. Initial suspicion was the master brake cylinder, but this was ruled out because the brake fluid present was from pre‑MOT work. The actual failure was due to a blocked hydraulic circuit inside the mechanical section of the ABS pump. This aligns with the original reason for replacing the pump/module. After fitting the correct replacement unit, the vehicle immediately lost all diagnostic communication. Technical ContextBosch 8.2 ESP modules are known to: Drop off the CANbus if the control‑module supply fuse is compromised Half‑boot if ignition feed is unstable Pull CAN‑High/Low down if internal electronics short Cause gateway isolation if the module presents invalid CAN frames Given the fuses are confirmed good, the fault is now likely to be: A CAN‑line disturbance introduced during pump/module installation A ground reference issue affecting the gateway or ABS node Internal failure of the replacement ABS module despite being the correct part A wiring harness issue at the ABS connector or gateway node A gateway protection response due to invalid signalling from the ABS node What I’m Looking ForBefore the auto‑electrical appointment, I’d appreciate insight into: Known Mk2 weak points in the CAN‑High/CAN‑Low wiring around the ABS pump area Any ground points near the ABS hydraulic block or battery tray that commonly cause gateway isolation Whether Bosch 8.2 ESP modules can present CAN‑bus shorts or malformed frames even when the hardware is correct for the vehicle Any hidden connectors or splice points in the Octavia Mk2 CAN backbone that may have been disturbed during pump removal/refitting Additional electrical checks that are worthwhile before the garage performs oscilloscope‑level diagnostics I’m trying to eliminate simple electrical causes before the specialist takes over, but I’m aware that deeper CAN interrogation (gateway pings, bus loading analysis, frame integrity checks) will require VCDS/ODIS and proper bench tools.
