@horkin not sure where you’re based but saw this Fabia up the other day! It’s only on 11k and it’s a 1.2 TSI DSG hatch! Maybe worth looking at if you get a chance - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202002147322432

Theres seems to be a few sub 9k on there that meet what you’re looking for!

Cheers mate, yes I'm watching Auto trader and dealers, I just don't feel like I want to travel too far. If I was desperate I'd consider it but I'll wait a while and see if one comes up local. As I said It was just the attraction of the Diesel being right on my doorstep and being DSG and SE L that made me post for advice.

Yes you can often see the interest drain away once you tell a dealer your specific essentials. As well as wanting a DSG SE L I didn't want a Black car and I don't want a Monte Carlo or any sports type vehicle, simply because my wife cannot get comfortable in sports seats.

They do seem to get the impression I'm being a bit fussy, probably because I am, it is after all my choice.🤣.

But as I say I'll wait for what I want or stay with what I have.

The Diesel has disappeared off their website so it looks like it may be sold.

All Motability cars at the end of lease get returned to Dealerships, but they go to BCA (British Car Auctions)

If they have Ex Motability cars coming in then they put an offer in and bought them, and not necessarily will have cars they supplied or serviced.

Thanks, that's useful information especially if they ring me and say they've sourced one for me, I can ask the questions and delve into how they came by it. It's good to be armed with such knowledge. I'm not desperate at all, I'm happy sticking with what I have, it was just the possibility of moving up to DSG and SE L spec that excited me in the first place and at a price close to £7k. At least I know the car I have was owned locally and serviced by the dealer.

We had a 2016 diesel. It did (and still does) plenty of runs and never had any issues with the DPF. It had several new water pumps though, two under warranty, and one with the new owner just outside (but because it was consistently looked after by the dealer who sold it to us) which was largely paid for by Skoda goodwill.

DPFs can be a problem with diesels, but the newer ones are less of a problem as the engines were designed with them in mind rather than being an add-on. So on the one hand you do need to consider if your usage will suit that, but on the other be aware that the naysayers of doom may just be reporting old information that doesn't apply to newer cars. DPFs are not always the disaster some will tell you.

Our 2016 diesel manual achieved over 90MPG (indicated) once. The replacement 1.0 TSi DSG rarely does better than 60MPG indicated but then fuel is cheaper. For your useage will it make a difference? All of these are better than a 2.0 V6 I have than struggles to get over 24MPG (but then I've not had it on the road for a couple of years).

PS: note you are Lincolnshire. We travelled over to Horton's in Lincoln, from Staffordshire, to buy our current one.

Thank you I really do appreciate your reply to my post. It also turned out the diesel had more miles on than I thought at 47k I only have 22k on mine, I think I will just wait and see if they get a petrol DSG SE l in either 1.2 or 1.0 guise at a price I feel happy with. As for the DPF I can't say I've heard of a lot of problems so can quite appreciate more modern engines seem to be made to cope better with shorter trips. Thanks again

Did you look at the diesel?

Yes. I rang them and arranged to go in and have a look at what they had. I didn't spend much time looking at the diesel after advice on here conformed what I already feared, short trips and modern diesels are not a good idea.

Sadly they didn't have anything remotely in my sub 9k price range except an estate in white which was at another group garage, but I want a hatchback.

I left it they would let me know if anything turns up, apparently they do a lot of motobility so do get a few in. It will have to be a DSG and preferably an SE L if I'm to be interested otherwise I'm happy with what I have.

If you are only using the car for short runs I would stick with your current car. The ideal situation would be to find a newer 1.2 SEL DSG.

I've booked in to look at the diesel tomorrow but I think after seeing yours and others advice it looks like the diesel is not going to be for me. All I would do is worry about the DPF 😂 Thanks for the  help.

  7. My main worry after looking at many reviews on here and other, would be the DPF.

I don't do a lot of long runs though I do a 200 mile motorway round trip about once every 6 weeks. I have see a lot more problems in the bigger engines related to DPF and wondered if the smaller 3 pot fairs any better on short journeys but I don't see why it should.

  8. Hi haven't been on for a while but still a Fabia owner and big fan.  Please can anyone offer advice.

I am now 80 years old so that's important.🤣. I own a 2016 Fabia 1.2 Tsi 110 bhp and love it.  It's an SE manual with under 30k on the clock.

Some time ago I owned a  MK 2 1.2 tsi DSG in Elegance spec. Of all the cars I've owned that is the one I regret parting with the most, mainly because I love the DSG box which for an old codger like me make driving around town a doddle. But I also loved the armrest, the cruise control and climate control, all things I don't have on my present car.

I have a chance to change up to a SEL model, same year 2016 and a  higher mileage at just over 40k which will give me all the bells and whistles I miss.

Only thing is it's the 1,4  Tdi about which I know nothing. I did own a Mk 1 Fabia with a 1.9 PD engine years ago and liked that.

Are there any issues with the 1.4 Tdi. It's a main dealer car owned by one of their own staff and fully serviced so any recalls or issues of that nature should be sorted.

The biggest attraction is that I can get back into an Auto Fabia without it costing a fortune which suits my situation perfectly.

I would love opinions. I know the DSG has it's doubters so please don't go there as I just love it.👍 But any information regarding the 1.4 tdi and any other known issues engine related would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    Brilliant.

Just got a new Xperia XA2, and could not get call list or contacts to transfer to the car.
Followed the trick above to become a 'developer', and changed the Bluetooth down from version 1.4 to 1.3. Now have contacts and call log.

    Thanks.

Pleased it helped. System does work well when up and running.

  10. Sorry Ian , you're at it again mate. You say I have politely told you and others to "bugger off".  You even put it as a "quote" in inverted commas.

I have said no such thing, would not use such insulting language on the forum and I have made it absolutely clear in subsequent posts that I'm expressing an opinion and not having a go. I have also said that I wonder what people are doing on the Fabia forum if the car is not for them?

I certainly don't like you and others pulling the brand to bits on here, but that's my view. You are allowed to do whatever you like, if telling us how you've fallen out with the Fabia and have moved onto another brand is what you want to do then so be it, but don't be alarmed and all defensive when I, who happen to love the Skoda Fabia, challenge your viewpoints.

  11. Yes the previous 2 posts highlight my reason for saying I'm disappointed the site has lapsed into criticism rather than enjoyment of the Skoda Fabia.

I don't want to be a member of a forum who's aim is to chastise and correct. I'm looking for enjoyment of the Fabia "as it is, warts and all".

Sorting out VW (Skoda) or changing the car's design is certainly NOT what I want from my membership. I wouldn't follow a football team to support the other side and I'm certainly not going to do similar on here.

If I'm the odd one out then so be it.

  12. It's probably just me, I come on here to be in company with SKODA FABIA owners to read about and discuss our common interest. I'm not particularly having a go but I am surprised you're puzzled at that and that another has posted a confused emoji.

My experience with owners clubs has been generally a pleasant one where members discuss and enthuse about their cars, tech's offer advice and Area Meets with like minded enthusiasts are commonplace.

I have no problems discussing other makes and models at all. There has been recent references made to the Suzuki Swift and Hyundai models but when it lapses, as it always seems to do with the (may I call them 'usual suspects?) into the demeaning of the Fabia, the Skoda brand and parent Company it becomes tiresome to me and my enthusiasm for the site has waned.

I feel sure if anyone visits the Citroen ,Suzuki or Hyundai websites and starts spouting the virtues of the Fabia they'll need their tin hat firmly in place.

I don't wish to offend, I come on here for a bit of fun

  13. This feels alarmingly like yet another 'why I dislike the Fabia' threads. I do wonder what some of you are doing on here.

Honestly, this is a Skoda Fabia forum designed for Fabia lovers. We happen to like the characteristic noises our little Fabia's make and the Tsi engine is a fine reliable engine. There are a host of forums available for those who's sentiments lie elsewhere.

  14. This is a very useful warning to those of us in the northern hemisphere. It bongs on start up if the temp is below 4deg and will also bong when driving if the temp drops to this figure or below.

I lived in Campelltown  NSW for many years in my long distant past, We often had frost on the grass in the depths of winter but it was always around 60 deg f or higher by lunch time. The roads never got icy, I suppose because of the residual heat in the tarmac.

    Harry

  15. I seldom look at my mpg figures. I always run it until it gets just below half full and then top it up.

Whichever Fabia I have had it always seems to take an age for my car to get to half full if I'm just on normal local driving and that suits me fine. :giggle:

  16. Well a nice mix of views and experiences.

The reason I started this thread is because I love this forum. My experience with my Mk1 PD diesel was in general great, I had one major issue which took a lot of sorting and ended up being the brake servo but I went outside of the vag group to a Skoda 'specialist' and maybe that was a mistake as he changed a number of parts before discovering it was the servo. That 1.9 PD engine was so strong. I had lots and lots of help from the forum regarding the car in general and the leaky door seals were corrected using the guides from the site.

The Mk11. I owned was the one in my avatar, a Yellow 1.2 Tsi 105 DSG Elegance. I regret to this day selling that lovely motor and again, lots of great banter and advice from the forum. I didn't experience the noisy chain as some did though the engine always had a characteristic rattle when first started. I never experienced problems with the gearbox either and had the 'recall' oil change done on it. It's far and away the nicest auto I have ever driven in my long life.

So after being away from the Forum and vag for a while I came back in a way buying a Seat Mii MPI 75. What a lovely little Citigo sibling that was. great cars I did a 1500 (ish) miles trip around Scotland and the north of England in it with my wife and it was a smooth and comfortable as anything I have driven. The suspension and steering on those little cars is amazing.

Alas we found it a tad small and being a 3 door a bit of a pain so decided to upgrade to my current M111 1.2 Tsi 110  SE Manual. Apart from the low speed ride which could be better (I think the trade off for that is a superb drive and road handling at speed) it's a significant step up from the Mk1 and 11 models.

Since returning to the forum I have been generally disappointed to find I am constantly reading about peoples dislike of the VW group, the horrendous service they have endured from their dealers or VW. Also the thread on the DSG gearbox which, quite frankly was enough to put anyone off buying one of these lovely autos. I am not saying people haven't experienced faults but for most the box is fine and a treat to drive. Dual clutch gearboxes, by their complex nature are different and can be problematic and if we are to believe what we read these issues are not solely within VW and other manufacturers have experienced similar. However for the most part they are trouble free but those who do experience problems can find the fix is beyond many's capabilities and always expensive.

The comparison with other models is fair enough but again, I was disappointed to encounter longish threads on how good the Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10/20 and Citroen C3 are, not because these cars aren't good cars but the deliberate comparison to the Fabia in an attempt to put these vehicles in a class superior to our lovely Mk111, something I would strongly dispute. Anyway I am here to enjoy the Skoda Fabia mark and no other.

The benefit I want to get from Briskoda is one of being able to discuss our cars, accept the faults that occur but share the experience with one another, discussing the best ways of overcoming these and how we have tackled problems so that others can benefit. I don't want to read how I'd be better off owning this make or that, I'm a Fabia owner, proud of it and want to discuss my car with like minded people.

I think the Skoda customer demographic has changed

Fabia MK1 and 2 both had vrs models which is aimed at a youthful crowd so to speak and so are more.likely to post on here and generally mod cars

Fabia 3 is different no vrs at all and a Luke warm 110bhp Monte Carlo so appeals to a different buyer

Plus the influx of Korean hit hatches and other manufacturers in general have all offered a sporty hotish hatch to compete in the fabia segment

And then the elephant in the room Skoda themselves

At one point the vw pay masters encouraged a different product for a different customer with vw engineering for a fraction of the cost

Prime example was.skoda fun pick up Skoda roomster  or praktik

Then the range became more controlled by the masters to the point the range is now intentionally under equipped tto prevent Impacting sales on other bag marques

This will be more evident with the new rapid due to launch soon

Them we move  to price and even that is more aligned with the group with the intention to appear more upmarket and the karoq and kodiak is further example of Skoda chasing a more upmarket clientele and is slowly dumping on repeat Skoda owners hence the slow slip down the satisfaction tables

At.one point Skoda meant (to me ) fantastic value good reliable cars with a great friendly dealer network that image is slowly changing

But that's just my take on it

Thanks for posting in my thread. I would just say this is a FABIA forum and my thread is solely aimed at Fabia owners. I would point out that the Fabia has not slowly slipped anywhere and the price is very comparable to similar models.

I suspect the lack of a Vrs or hot version of the Fabia reflects sales of the model. I'm not technical enough to back up the following but hot hatches get thrashed by kids and I suspect warranty claims are high on these cars which may have been a deterrent when manufacturing was decided, but it's just guesswork on my part.

As for other models in the Skoda range. It's for those wishing to buy those cars to check out the competition and make their own decisions, but it's of little interest to me.

Personally, I think that VW Group are going through a bad patch, and I don’t just mean the derv gate thing which might have surfaced as being only VW Group who was involved in the motoring public’s eye - but has quietly spread out quite a bit further and probably into some brands that played shocked and horrified. while inside s******ing at VW’s bad press world wide. They seem to be moving very quickly into being a build them cheap and let the bonnet badge do the selling company, and that means some of us feel that we are being taken for fools. I run a 2011 Audi S4 and I care not one bit for the brand or it’s image, only certain of its products. I bought my wife a VW Polo back in 2002 as I had at that time a VW Passat, so effectively she was joining the same car “family” that car did not fully come up to my expectations of a VW Polo, and most previous Polo model owners would probably agree, my wife always ran Ford Fiestas prior to this and that model had always been an honest car for its money including resell retained value. By buying her a new Polo in 2015 I was stupidly hoping that VW had learned it’s lesson over the Ibiza and Polo unhappy owners over the intervening period and had sorted out more suitable suppliers and wised up on some design mess ups, I obviously did not do too much homework prior to buying her next car as more by luck than design I missed out on being landed with the early 1.2TSI 8V chain issues, then just, by months missed out on the later 1,2TSI 16V inlet variable cam timing pulley issue. I had not planned to be lucky when buying a new car, more I was just being trusting that commercial pressures or being honest/competent would be VW’s way to world dominance - I stand corrected.

Currently the car car suits our use very well, moves well, has good brakes and steering and returns very high MPG, nasty gearbox noises though now that VW fixed the gearbox top mounting, coincidence or effect, I’m hoping that it is “effect” if not maybe a big expense is just around the next corner, and we should not have to need to worry about that when buying from a proper car manufacturer- should we?

I won't get into an argument, too long in the tooth, but I've seen your posts and understand you are less than happy with VW.

    It's those little remarks

"that car did not fully come up to my expectations of a VW Polo, and most previous Polo model owners would probably agree,"

"I was stupidly hoping that VW had learned it’s lesson over the Ibiza and Polo unhappy owners over the intervening period and had sorted out more suitable suppliers and wised up on some design mess ups,"

I just wonder how you could possibly back up such sweeping statements. They are huge accusations coupled to a pretense that you might know what "most previous Polo model owners" actually do think.

    Harry.

  19. I've had some enjoyable times with my Mk 1 on the Mk1 forum and Likewise with my Mk11 on the Mk11 forum. People genuinely seemed to enjoy their Skoda's and while Yes, the Mk 1 had it's leaky doors and the Mk11 had its noisy timing chains there was always cheerful banter and excellent reviews on the cars and how they drove.

For some reason I don't get the feeling the Mk111 is doing it for some and there are some pretty damning posts regarding the Auto box and VAG customer service.

I'm not sure whether or not the adverse posts are a true indication of the car or a few disgruntled owners washing their dirty linen on here. Whatever it is the Mk111 forum is nowhere near as entertaining to me  as the previous 2 were.

My own view of the Mk111 1.2 tsi 110 manual I own is that it's a great car and a huge step up on previous models.

I'd love to hear others views, there must be a few others on here that like the Mk111 as much as I do.

Well keep your car for a while and it might just end up with this issue, remember one thing, the clutch release mechanism on these 1.2TSI 16V engines for some reason has reverted to being an "old school" external slave cylinder, release lever and release bearing, I think all current small VW Group cars have moved back to the "all in one hydraulic release assembly" that all other small VW Group cars used in the past back to when Fabia etc first appeared.

What I'm saying is, people who have kept their cars for a while are not reporting this problem.  All cars have issues, anything that moves wears but if it becomes the norm, then we have problems. That's not happened yet to my knowledge.
