    My 59 plate front passenger side went after 3 years @ 50k.
    I was sure it was a bearing but one garage thought it was the diff and main dealer couldn't hear it...!!.
    I got an Indy to change it and it was perfect. If you gut feeling is a bearing it probably is. You will lost likely not feel any play, these are modern sealed bearings.
    You need to buy the hub assembly as a complete unit.
    I was led to believe bearings going in vag cars was common. My mk1 vrs got through a couple of bearings in 3 years ownership.
