  1. Glad to see someone in the community wound up with it. I was really sad to see it go. And to top it all the house sale fell through, so I never needed to sell it! Argh!
  2. Hello everyone. Lots of inquiries about car, as it - in my opinion - one of the very best out there. It was sold this morning to the first guy to come up with the cash. Sorry about that. Deek.
  3. It's still got the the original headunit in it. The screen you can see is just a satnav that's mounted into a switch blank (I've got nice fresh ones waiting to go in to return the dash to stock). You can see the ciggie lighter cable, which is routed through the central console and up behind the headunit to power the satnav. The "thing" on the floor behind the passenger seat is just a bicycle computer that I'd lost when I took the photos - I found it when I reviewed them!
  4. YES! It's that very car. Bought as new from a dealer in Inverness by a guy who lived there for two weeks, then drove to Luton (one hell of a commute!!) to work there for two weeks, and so on. He really wanted number 777 (hence the registration) because he worked on those, but had to settle for 747. I bought it direct from him at six months old with 6k on the clock. I guess he didn't get on with it for some reason. It's been fantastic for me. Amazingly small world, this. Do you want to buy it back? Make me an offer.
  5. You could buy it now and hide it from the wife. I have a garage... Or make me an offer. It really is a fantastic car in outstanding condition.
  6. Yes it would be a 57 plate. I would get that organised if the buyer doesn't want the VRS one. It's had the VRS one on it from first registration. Interested? I really don't want to sell it but I need the cash for a house purchase. It was a choice between selling this or the Lupo GTI. The Lupo won!
  7. FOR SALE Skoda Fabia VRS SE (#747 of 1000) This is a chance to own one of the very last Mk1 VRSs produced (registered 24 September 2007). The car has been lovingly owned by an enthusiast who has treated it with respect. It has served faultlessly as a daily commuting vehicle running back and fore between Glasgow and Edinburgh day in day out without missing a heartbeat. Always maintained and well looked after, this car has not wanted for servicing. A new job and relocation to the Midlands means it’s just not needed any more. Which is a real shame, as it’s bloody lovely. And fast. All the usual VRS kit, plus the SE additions: - Full leather interior in outstanding condition. Regularly treated (I love the smell!) and it’s only really had the driver in it. No wear at all. - 6 disc CD changer (still installed, but a Connects2 Aux adapter is currently wired in its place - can be easily swapped back). - Tinted glass (not film) from b-pillar back - VRS carpet mats and rubber ones. - And, of course, the Race Blue paintwork Outstanding condition. N’er a swirl mark to be seen. 2 owners. 63k miles (55k on motorway). Full main dealer service history (majority Skoda; more recently VW). Cambelt, waterpump and console bushes changed at 50k. 60k service recently completed. Brand new discs and pads all round. Liquidgauge included (not currently installed). Will come with 12 months MOT and 12 months tax. As it has spent all of its life (near enough) on the motorway, there are some chips to the front bumper and bonnet but that’s to be expected. The headlights are protected by clear lamin-x film. Available for viewing in Loughborough or nearby in the East Midlands or, if you’re serious, in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Vast quantities of detailed photos already online. Contact me for the link. Anyone wanting a test drive will have to bring paper evidence of their insurance cover with them. Price: £7,200 without the VRS plate. £7,500 with it. Or make me a sensible offer. Bear in mind these prices are about £1k less than dealers are currently asking for SEs. Hell, I've even seen one recently go for £9k. Email contact preferred: [email protected] or you can PM me on here. Look at the shiny!
  8. Well, he didn't bother to return my call. Maybe that says it all. I'll be back there tomorrow though as they messed up the service record. So if he's there I'll try to catch him.
  9. I've got my SE in for a service at the local VW dealer atm. Got a call from one of their sales guys offering to value it while it was in. May as well see what he says for cash only.
  10. I have mine plugged into the ciggie lighter, then an ciggie lighter extension lead takes it under the central console, on the passenger side. The tomtom (navigon in my case), then plugs into the extension lead which is tucked up behind the central console (in the area of the airbag module). The lead then navigon's power lead then come up behind the stereo to poke out a switch blank with the corner filed off. The switch blank next to it is completely taken out and the navigon's mount adapted to fit into the hole. It works *really* well, isn't visible and no wire tapping required.
  11. I had a 9N 2002 Polo before my (MK1) Fabia. The Skoda is *miles* better screwed together than the Polo ever was. Even though they're basically the same car, production in the Ukraine vs. Spain makes one hell of a difference.
  12. The grumpy service manager has been MIA from Parks for months now. Anyway, just before Christmas, I booked the car into to have the wheels swapped front to rear. Yes I know that's not something a dealer should be involved in, but it was -3, the car was filthy and the rears always seize onto the hubs no matter how much copperslip I use. I was fully expecting to pay around £20 for half an hour's labour, only to be told "no charge." So more kudos for this dealer from me.
  13. My VRS (MK1, second hand) came with a set in the boot! Depsite having had snow here since the end of November, I actually had to break them out just yesterday. All the roads were clear, except for the car parks where I work. They are fantastic. They got me through a good 6 or 7 inches in exactly the same place I got stuck last year when I left them in the garage. Although they're easy to put on and remove, it is incredibly messy to do so - you'll need to carry a towel with you so you can wipe yourself down...
  14. I was there first: I think it looks *fantastic* (but I had to take the film off for the MOT and haven't got hold of more stuff, yet. Too much to do...)
  15. My 9N Polo used to Moo. But it was the vent pipe on the petrol tank and very obviously came from the back of the car...
  16. Mine's on 56k and it's still going strong. Just had the cambelt service and all good. Garage even commented it was odd to still be on the original brake disc at that age, let alone the original pads! Sadly, a job change in the new year means I won't really need it for much longer. So I'll have to sell it or the Lupo GTI. Oddly, I thought I would never sell the GTI, but the VRS is so much better as an all-round car. It just lacks the feedback on the noise of the Lupo...
  17. I have the lamin-x film on mine - I think they look awesome against the SE's race blue. You can easily fit them without taking the bumper off. Just pull the fog surrounds off, turn the lights on (to heat them up), and place the film over. Just make sure you don't trim the film too neatly. I tried to cut the film to just cover the lens and it lifted to let dirt in behind after a few months. The second time I did it, I only trimmed roughly, used a hairdryer to make sure the film carried all the way round the side of the lamp housing (with the lamp on, you can still seal the film against the glass all the way to the edge). Then I just pushed the surrounds back over the roughly trimmed edges and it looks perfect from the outside.
  18. Also worth checking / changing the cam position sensor (tdc sensor?) Mine failed with an almighty bang / shudder through the car, then into limp mode. And thereafter an engine that would not restart - it would just crank and never catch. All this on an SE. Might be worth a punt. Start with the cheap stuff.
  19. Pretty much the same here. A little over £40 for every 500 miles (every week for me).
  20. An interesting product, and a more interesting demo car:
  21. 1. check that it's properly grounded. 2. fit a "big" capacity to on the live feed, but i've never heard of that being necessary. probably (1).
  22. Nobody here a fan of 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, then? I've used it for years and it works great. Just yesterday I was fixing some problems from claying (15 month's of dirt, too much enthusiasm and not enough time) and this stuff rounded off the swirls a treat. Autoglim Super Resin polish for the genuine scratches (sills and the like - damn passengers), followed by the glaze everywhere to round/fill the swirls, followed by Poor Boy's Natty Paste for the protection (and the smell!!!) Having said that, it looks like I'll be giving this Black Hole stuff a shot...
  23. I washed mine today. First time since 1 June 2009 (I know because I took photos...). Took four and a half hours. Mainly claying tar spots off it. Eventually gave up as my back was killing me. Had to do it really, as workload means the next weekend I'll have any time to myself is Easter next year!!
  24. I bought a brand new 02 reg 9N Polo (with the four round lights at the front). It was one of the very first to be made and, dear God, was it a disaster. You could name any component of the car - be it bodywork, mechanical, or electrical - and there'd be something wrong with it. The only part that was fault-free was the roof! Examples: Both pictures were with the bonnet shut: And this door was shut (look at the reflection):
  25. It is just me, or are the lights on the back of that thing incredibly depressed? I think that every time one of these go past me. Like a pair of depressed eyebrows, they are.
