There are a couple of chaps with mk1 octy vrs's on here with this remap. They have no problems at all, this is one of the good ones and Jason knows what he's doing. He gets his maps from reputable companies.
cheers matey
thats the positive i am after

I would say if they aren't known on here it is not worth the risk. JCB had a bad experience with an unknown tuning company after a postal remap from ebay and is still sorting it.
cheers for the replies:
i think it was jcb's thread that made me ask this question.
i also read that not all cheap is rubbish!! i have rang them up and talked to them, they seem genuine enuff however i thought i would ask to see if there was anyone one here that have ahd first hand experience with ecu_tune from ebay.
its budget that is stopping me pay 300 quid for a remap but i dont want to waste my 100 then end up paying for more of course

Hi Adie,
Really sorry to hear that. You are the 2nd person in 2 weeks. These 1.8T's are not as durable as the tdi's!!
Sadly I expect your engine is totalled. When was the cambelt last changed? It would be very good for us on the forum to know WHAT caused the damage, though from your point it's more interesting what it will cost to fix. If it has a snapped/broken belt and not a dropped valve, if the belt & tensioners were changed when they should have been you may be able to claim against the mfr's. If you had VW parts on it, they come with a replacement engine warranty - which is why I only use them.
Get the service history out, let me know what was changed when and what brands were used. Get the cambelt cover off and see what's going on in there and post back.
Greg.
hi matey,
i have just got the cover off,
nothing looks wrong so far, as in: the belt i stil there but is loose, it does not look worn beyond however i cant see all of it
the tensioner looks ok also
not to sure abouit the waterpump as i cant quite get to it
i have decided to get it in the garage so they can see wot is wot, i had a good chat with the garage guy and he seems to think that it is hit an miss if i will have damaged the valves
he gonna take it in this after noon so i will let u know
my is a 2001 its now got 93 on the clock will need to check when it was last changed,
i have just started my 4 weeks leave fromt hearmy and planned to get the car in for all major work, sods law it to break now
any more advice welocome of course
thanks again for your posts
cheers

hi
i was off on my way to work in my octavia vrs 1. 8 when the car cut out
once pulled over i tried to restart and heard that horrible noise a engine makes when the cam is not turning.
30 mins later and an rac man he decides its the cam belt or waterpump or tenisoner etc,( from a quick look of course)
my main questions is have i done any valve damage as i was driving when this happend, crank still going cam not?! this i imagine will need head off and all the expensives bits that follow such a job.
as i want to keep the cost down on the repair,
thanks for any help in advance
cheers
