  1. Hi folks. Just posting on here to warn others about using this company based in Bury St Edmund's. Poor quality work, aggressive customer service and biggest waste of £80 per wheel. Took 2 18"diamond cut VW Cadiz alloys in for full refurbishment. Dropped off one Monday last August and got a call on Wednesday to say the wheels were ready. Strange given you're told a full diamond cut refurb takes 4 days. And mine were ready after 2 days. Was not happy with the finish, as the straight line diamond cut effect was more jagged edge (see join between black and silver surfaces in photos). Also note the orange peel effect on one of the spokes. General manager inspected alloys and said they were the best they could do, so I reluctantly accepted. Due to the finish that doesn't match the 2 original, non-refurbished alloys, I've been embarrassed to put them on the car, so have been using one of the refurbished alloys as a full size spare, as I have another set of 19" alloys on the car. Had reason to use the refurbished alloy last week when one of my 19" tyres got a puncture. Only had it on the car for less than a week and already corrosion is setting in under the lacquer (see photos). Took the wheels back to the company today who said that their work is only guaranteed for 6 months and they'd be a cost for them to work on them again. Given that a diamond cut alloy can only be refurbished once or twice, there is no way I would let them anywhere near the alloy again. Avoid like the plague. In hindsight I wish I'd used Lepsons in Kent.
  2. As a member of vwroc, members on there also advocate Motorway. I'm in a similarly fortunate position, as we bought our then-private lease car off VWFS for £20k in April 2020, only for it to be valued at £25.5k by wbac last week. With being in a 2 car household, and working from home expected until Mar 2022, I'm tempted to cash in and live as a 1 car household until things hopefully settle down next year.
  3. I agree that the new price is a tad steep, which is why is why I would have been hoping for a hefty discount. The problem with that price is that it puts it in the same price bracket as better alternatives. Other alternatives to the bmw, Volvo and merc would be a used current gen Touareg - used Rline Techs are now around the £35k mark, which is an attractive option over the vRS.
  4. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/skoda-kodiaq-vrs-be-removed-sale-due-emissions-rules Sad news. I'd always fancied one. Will now have to look at used ones when the time comes to change my current car.
  5. I'm tempted by this as a project as I used to own an SE until last year. What's the car's bodywork and alloys like, and how's the leather holding up, particularly the driver's seat around the bolster and base? Thanks Statto
  6. Congratulations on getting a Fabia vRS SE. You’re a member of a very exclusive club. We had one for 10 years and moved it on in summer last year, something that I still regret as it was a great car that was essentially depreciation proof - it only lost £600 a year in depreciation and needed nothing major mechanically except for the usual wear and tear items. I’d buy another one in a flash if it was in at least as good a condition as ours. I notice that yours has xenons, something that it didn’t come standard with so presume a previous owner had them fitted. Enjoy your new motor.
  7. Hi Sliceman, I’m not 100% sure tbh because of the vrs’ one piece design. I forgot to mention that “our car” in my first post isn’t a vrs but is a Golf with the more common back rest plus headrest design. As to whether they’ll fit the vrs, much will depend on how far the adjustable strap will stretch round the vrs’ seat, but even if it did, I’d be concerned about the impressions they’d leave on the seat’s fabric themselves. You might be better off relying on a combination of exploiting the seat’s wipe clean nature and a bit of education for the kids!
  8. I’ve got these kick mats for around £10 fitted in our car which are similar to the ones in the above link if you don’t need the back seat protector. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Venture-Premium-Car-Seat-Protector-Kick-Mats-Black-Pack-of-2/392203889116?epid=21022781664&hash=item5b512c69dc:g:Ow0AAOSwvNVcKMyO
  9. Exactly! I can't help but feel that owners of Meteor Grey Karoqs will be feeling quite smug as they won't have this problem because you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. At least this thread has saved these owners the hassle of checking their cars as there's no need!

  11. But to add to the list of irritants, I'd like to propose the use of the digital cockpit in the Karoq promo pics only to withdraw it from the UK spec. Having got virtual cockpit on my R, where I can display a multitude of info directly in front of me, displaying exactly what I want, there's no way I'd go back to antiquated dials, and it's the only thing that's stopping me from ordering a Karoq for the time being. Digital dashboards are the way the industry is moving and it won't be long before traditional dials look as out of place as a cellphone does in old Merc S-classes/BMW 7 series.
  12. No ambient lighting on the rear doors seems to be the norm and no worse than the more "premium" VW. Like you, I've got a Golf R (mk7.5) and was slightly annoyed to find that a £36k car's ambient lighting doesn't extend to the rear and furthermore, rear passengers are treated to cattle class with hard brittle door cards compared to the front's soft touch ones. In comparison, therefore, I wouldn't feel too short changed with the absence of ambient lighting in the rear of a perceived "budget" VAG brand.
  13. I've read about this on the VWROC forum where owners to be are being told the same thing and having the feature disabled before the car is released. Does anyone else on here think it might have something to do with GDPR which is being enforced across the EU from 25th May? I wonder if the way that the signal booster works in the transmission of data is somehow not compliant with GDPR. That's the only reason that I can think why there seems to be a blanket removal across the VW group.
  14. That's expensive for a Golf R estate. And a Karoq for that matter. Last July I placed an order for a Golf R estate in signature lapiz blue metallic on a 6 + 23 10k/annum deal at £1.6k deposit and £265/month, which arrived in September. It would have been £1.5k and £245/month without the metallic paint, but the wife insisted that we didn't go poverty spec. Either way, cheap as chips and makes the Karoq look expensive.
  15. I'm 99.9% confident that it's not government-backed as not all manufacturers are offering it and those that are are all operating their schemes differently. This leads me to think that it's funded by the manufacturer, which makes me think they rake in far too much profit normally to be able to offer £2, 3,..., 8k off a new car, on top of any discount offered by the dealer. The following article on Autocar's site Who will really benefit from the latest scrappage schemes? may give you some answers as to the benefits of the scheme.
  16. You need to have owned the car for at least 6 months, unfortunately. It's a good idea though. I'm kicking myself for not buying some £500 smoker beforehand and putting that towards it instead.
  17. As for part ex-ing and taking someone else's seats in return, I reckon they'd only offer me around £2000 for my car, if that. It's not in the first flush of youth after all as the bodywork isn't in its prime - think of rust spots on the rear wheelarches that are beyond economic repair and you get the idea. As leather vRS seats (both non- and special edition ones) tend to sell for around £600-800, this would on top of the £4000 scrappage allowance, meaning the equity in the car is £4,600-4,800 if i put it towards the scrappage scheme. Good discounts are to be had to the GTD estate too - £21,904 according to DtD which includes the scrappage allowance.
  18. I thought VW might try and get some extra cash out of it by selling it on, but from their T&C's: "All qualifying vehicles that are traded in will be permanently taken off the road and scrapped. T&Cs apply, contact your local Volkswagen retailer. Finance subject to status. Indemnities may be required. Volkswagen Financial Services." I think they've already made enough money from unfairly gaining from their diesel defeat device scandal!
  19. Hi folks, i could do with your opinions here. I've got a vRS Special Edition, which i've owned for the last 8 years. I've loved every minute of owning it, but recently, possibly due to its age and mileage, it's turned into a bit of a money pit. What with the announcement of VW's scrappage scheme, i'm toying with the idea of putting it towards a Golf GTD estate. Morally, i'm in a dilemma though. Surely this limited edition car is too good to simply consign to the scrap heap? Or am I just being daft? I know my car's not worth £4,000, which is what the scrappage allowance would be, but what a waste of a good car (despite its recent need for repairs). I mean, it's only done 100k miles - the engine's barely been run in! If I do take the plunge, I was toying with the idea of stripping out as many parts of it and selling them on to ensure its spirit lives on, but it's a pain that the car has to be driven to the dealer cos i'd have taken its youthful engine out. The seats, which are unmarked and barely show any sign of wear, are easy enough to take out though, so hopefully they'll find a good home with someone on this forum. What are your thoughts? I expect that this won't be the only decent car that will undeservedly meet the crusher through this scrappage scheme.
  20. Not being pedantic or anything, but for the avoidance of doubt and clarification for potential buyers, when you say "extras" can you confirm which ones are factory/dealer fit extras, ie official extras? After all, why are sat nav, xenons, arm rest, and heated seats worth explicit mention but not the splitter, exhaust, darkenened alloys, window deflectors, and black grill? Is it safe to say that all are aftermarket? Just enquiring because I've got an SE and don't remember extras being possible to spec. Just wanted to clarify to potential buyers that "highest spec" doesn't necessarily equate to speccing more options than anyone else from the official brochure. That and stating a price of a million pounds suggests playing hard and fast with the rules.Glwts
  21. No probs. That's all the ad needn't really, the deletion of black line. GLWTS
  22. Hi, correct me if I'm wrong but did the blackline vRS not come with full leather interior and sat nav as standard? If yours is a blackline what have you done with these items? Also, I thought options like heated seats couldn't be specified on it. Were the alloys black when they left the factory or have they been painted black since? Finally, didn't the blackline only come as a diesel?
  23. VW emissions scandal: VW UK offers discounts of up to £1500 in 'loyalty bonus'http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/vw-emissions-scandal-vw-uk-offers-discounts-%C2%A31500-loyalty-bonus Wonder what will be on "offer" to Skoda owners...
