  1. THis is really a just checking im covering all bases before i forget something

Off to the Stelvio this bank holiday weekend with the Fabia. 1600miles in total with a lap of the Nurburgring on the way home

Im all covered insurance wise (apart from the Nurburgring lap) ADAC breakdown cover etc.

    Any useful suggestions welcome :)

  2. After driving to London and back this weekend the car seems to behaving more expected, as in no more excessive dip/dive and then turn. I do think the 83Y load rating are very soft in the sidewall (certainly from the look of them) and the front end weight of the Fabia doesnt help so yes will be probably looking at a new axle set by the end of '15

Could be, as stated, newness of the tyres at the time, dampers are knackered, RARB upgrade

I had a pair fitted to the front wheels of my Fabia vRS recently to replace some RS2s. I can't say I have noticed any changes in the handling. Have your tyres been fitted the right way round, ie with outside visible on the sidewalls? If so, you will notice that the tread pattern is the opposite way round on the left and right tyres when you look at them from the front.

Yep all correctly fitted. I do find that weird that the tread pattern is not symettrical but it works so shrug shoulders and carry on

  3. What do you mean when you say it dives before turning? it could be the fact that you have gone from a mixture of pretty naff sounding worn tyres to some excellent ones, therefore have high levels of adhesion to the road surface now which has changed the behaviour of the car (for the better) and you are simply not used to it?

I will assume this may be the case a try a drive it like it not on rails for the time being

  4. less than 200. Fitted last Saturday,

I've checked and they are the correct tyres and correct load rating for my car so am I now looking at other issues perhaps.

    78k miles

    original brakes (front)

    34 psi

The piece of road where this is most noticable is this part of the B4109 just off the M69 (marked in red)

  5. Just had new RS3 fitted to my Fabia VRS

The car is standard, not remapped, not lowered. Since having the RS3's fitted this past weekend the car is more unpredictable in the corners. It dives before turning now and doesnt inspire confidence.

Im lead to believe the RS3 are a softer tyre. Anyone care to comment.

  6. As the car was less than 2 weeks old, the garage I bought the car from agreed to replace the nearside rear caliper for me.

Monkeys also forgot to put the black bolt caps back on though. Only found that out the next day..... monkeys!

  7. Ordered new bits for her so far this week. H7 and W5W bulbs, wiperblades

Also had an oil change but have discovered that the nearside rear caliper is stuffed and would appear locked on :-S

Mechanic I trust, has diagnosed either the monkies that sorted the handbrake have adjusted the handbrake and thus caused this. The picture is when the handbrake is not applied. The offside rear caliper is not as bad but is not all the way back to the stop.

Hazards of buying a 2nd hand car I guess. It drives fine, apart from a squeek at low speeds. Not a drone noise what would suggest wheel bearing.

Oddly with the caliper like this , it pasted an MOT with no advisories!!! Monkies!!!

  8. Had her first bath yesterday evening

No crazy plans for her. Im not a fan of dirty diesel smoky remaps so engine wise she will be staying as is. She does sit high so some springs, but that should be about it.

  9. Picked this up this week. '06 Skoda Fabia vRS - 67k miles

Original registation in Liverpool. Purchased from a used car dealer in Birmingham (very good service received from them - would recommend) no major scratches other than on the nearside sill. Seems to have had a new bonnet at some point, stickers are brand new etc and 8 years of wear and tear are visible in the screws but the paint is mint  :S nearside front strut has new bolts compared to the rusty bolts on the offside.

    Issues:

    • rear offside light cluster is cracked
    • backs of the seats are dirty, but white seats and its 8 years old so what do you expect.
    • Primewell tyres on the front, Westlake and a Pirelli on the rear axle
    • Missing battery cover
    • Mirrors show signs of the glue melting, due according to a friend that the heated mirror switch has been permanently on.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase. Should save me some monies every month compared to the Octavia 4x4 Turbo that it replaces. She was damaged beyond economic repair unfortunately. So miss the turbo noise of the 1.8T already.
