  1. About to take delivery of my first Aussie Skoda in Brisbane. Very excited after 3 years in a thirsty Subaru Outback. However, as a keen cyclist I am struggling to find any advice on a rear mounted bike rack. I like the Saris Bones which are pretty popular here however the Thule also looks OK and with their reputation ...and cost.. For top carrying, my preferred method, I will continue with Thule however when the top box is on we are stuffed. Skoda tow bar...$1800 fitted (£800) how costly is that? Cheers for advice.
  2. The slippery slope ....? Please advise. My Superb with the auto box has about 106k on the clock and just occasionally the reverse gear will engage before popping out, before popping in again ..... I have read about this on these pages previously but I am wondering if there is any action that can be taken to head this off early or is it the ineviatble decline of the gearbox. If this is the case, can I expect it to get worse (and over what time span?) and can I expect the forward gears to catch on to this idea. I have owned the car for the last 18 months, think it is fantastic and fullly intended to take it with me to oz in the summer given the price of a nice european drive out there! this may make me reconsider. i am booked i to my local independent volkswagen/audi man later in the week here in germany so he may have seen a few of these things and have some suggestions like the auto box fluid needs to be changed .... cheers phil
  3. [thanks a lot - yes, that seems to be the common one - i feel left out that mine has not experienced this, touch wood. it is belting down outside so you never know!!!
  4. Hi all Feedback is welcomed on this one. My Superb 1.9tdi tiptronic is an 06 car on a 55 plate. i have owned it for 18 months, trouble free and 40,000 miles late I find myself in a dilemma. Going to Australia in 5 months and the plunging pound coupled with expensive (prohibitively so) euro second hand cars is making me consider the previously unthinkable. ship the superb out with the rest of the household kit in another big crate! Having paid 5000 pounds for it in top elegance spec and with leather/sat nav - I have been on to a winner Forget all of the Aust compliance/tax stuff - I will (and am) look into that side of things. I just wondered if anyone knows if there is trouble ahead - eg gearbox/mechanicals. Any advice welcome. As I have said thus far there have been no probs and I would do the belts etc before leaving. The car was bought as a stop gap when my wife suddently went all eco and bailed out on a Volvo XC90 we had planned to buy. The Superb was there, we needed a car and had all of 1 day to find one --- and I love it! So there we have it - reasons to take it/not to take it - all views thankfully considered. Cheers Phil
  5. I am running on Vredestein Quattrac 3 in north germany where we have to put on winter tyres around november time. loads of snow and slush etc last year - they are awesome
  6. Hi Just wondering if there are any Superb owners in Oz - just deliberating whether to take my 55 plate diesel elegance to oz next year. lots of paperwork and some import duties will apply however the cost of decent 2nd hand motors over there is unreal. i am assuming that between oz skoda dealers - marketing roomsters, octavia's, fabias (i think) and yeti's (soon) - and vw/audi dealerships and german/euro independent mechanics, most bits and pieces, along with routine maintenance will be relatively straightforward to access. thanks a lot
  7. thanks! 1.9tdi tiptronic road speed would always be less than 20mph - pulling away usually, first couple of hundred yards. alternatively, as i said, it is on the driveway.
  8. intermittent ... aren't they always! and it behaved well when serviced/tested last week ...! after starting engine and running the car for approx 30 secs - either driving up the road or idling on the driveway, i get a grating metallic whining sound from the front/under the bonnet i assume. it tends to last about 2-4 secs had brake discs etc checked and they are fine (this was at a time when i thought it was only happening whaen the car was moving .... but since happened on the drive) and the cambelt was changed about 1 year ago so it should not be belt noise. importantly, it does only make the sound once - when the car is then running, silence and perfection personified! the model child!!
  9. additionally, mine hisses for about 10secs after switching off the car. not really worried. have had the car about 1 year now and 10,000 miles so a re-gas on a 55 plate was prob. due in any case
  10. i posted about aircon/climotronic recently and the feedback received was good. it is simply that the superb has a very big interior but is only fitted with a passat aircon system. consequently the car will not feel as cool. my system was recently re-gassed and works adequately but the results are not spectacular. lo on the saab sportwagon - my previous car was like sweden in winter - the superb is adequate without being great.
  11. just had the air con re-gassed following a service - not running as cold as i would have hoped - does this kind of thing take time to kick in or am i being unfair comparing the aircon to that in my saab sportwagon - fast and ice cold - whereas the skoda drops to LO after 18 degrees. - ideas are gratefully received phil
  12. a second question possibly linked - let me know. car just back from service - all good - however engaging gear from park is trickier than it has been before. the gearstick is a bit of a wrestle .... any ideas or should i be concerned?
  13. has anyone had an issue with a 'sticky' auto gearlever button. it is a bit 'plasticcy' - no doubt something to do with the fact that it is plastic ...! and mine has begun to stick once in a while. just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and whether it is an easy fix/replacement cheers
  14. wondering if anyone has fitted one of these to the superb. i bought fitting kit 1 - as required - however the x fitting to the bottom of the boot is a non-starter when all of the other settings are set up as required. it is the three cycle carrier - it may well be that i am the spacca on this one. let me know - many thanks in advance phil
