  1. About to take delivery of my first Aussie Skoda in Brisbane. Very excited after 3 years in a thirsty Subaru Outback. However, as a keen cyclist I am struggling to find any advice on a rear mounted bike rack. I like the Saris Bones which are pretty popular here however the Thule also looks OK and with their reputation ...and cost.. For top carrying, my preferred method, I will continue with Thule however when the top box is on we are stuffed. Skoda tow bar...$1800 fitted (£800) how costly is that? Cheers for advice.
  2. The slippery slope ....? Please advise. My Superb with the auto box has about 106k on the clock and just occasionally the reverse gear will engage before popping out, before popping in again ..... I have read about this on these pages previously but I am wondering if there is any action that can be taken to head this off early or is it the ineviatble decline of the gearbox. If this is the case, can I expect it to get worse (and over what time span?) and can I expect the forward gears to catch on to this idea. I have owned the car for the last 18 months, think it is fantastic and fullly intended to take it with me to oz in the summer given the price of a nice european drive out there! this may make me reconsider. i am booked i to my local independent volkswagen/audi man later in the week here in germany so he may have seen a few of these things and have some suggestions like the auto box fluid needs to be changed .... cheers phil
  3. [thanks a lot - yes, that seems to be the common one - i feel left out that mine has not experienced this, touch wood. it is belting down outside so you never know!!!
  4. Hi all Feedback is welcomed on this one. My Superb 1.9tdi tiptronic is an 06 car on a 55 plate. i have owned it for 18 months, trouble free and 40,000 miles late I find myself in a dilemma. Going to Australia in 5 months and the plunging pound coupled with expensive (prohibitively so) euro second hand cars is making me consider the previously unthinkable. ship the superb out with the rest of the household kit in another big crate! Having paid 5000 pounds for it in top elegance spec and with leather/sat nav - I have been on to a winner Forget all of the Aust compliance/tax stuff - I will (and am) look into that side of things. I just wondered if anyone knows if there is trouble ahead - eg gearbox/mechanicals. Any advice welcome. As I have said thus far there have been no probs and I would do the belts etc before leaving. The car was bought as a stop gap when my wife suddently went all eco and bailed out on a Volvo XC90 we had planned to buy. The Superb was there, we needed a car and had all of 1 day to find one --- and I love it! So there we have it - reasons to take it/not to take it - all views thankfully considered. Cheers Phil
  5. I am running on Vredestein Quattrac 3 in north germany where we have to put on winter tyres around november time. loads of snow and slush etc last year - they are awesome
  6. Hi Just wondering if there are any Superb owners in Oz - just deliberating whether to take my 55 plate diesel elegance to oz next year. lots of paperwork and some import duties will apply however the cost of decent 2nd hand motors over there is unreal. i am assuming that between oz skoda dealers - marketing roomsters, octavia's, fabias (i think) and yeti's (soon) - and vw/audi dealerships and german/euro independent mechanics, most bits and pieces, along with routine maintenance will be relatively straightforward to access. thanks a lot
  7. thanks! 1.9tdi tiptronic road speed would always be less than 20mph - pulling away usually, first couple of hundred yards. alternatively, as i said, it is on the driveway.
  8. intermittent ... aren't they always! and it behaved well when serviced/tested last week ...! after starting engine and running the car for approx 30 secs - either driving up the road or idling on the driveway, i get a grating metallic whining sound from the front/under the bonnet i assume. it tends to last about 2-4 secs had brake discs etc checked and they are fine (this was at a time when i thought it was only happening whaen the car was moving .... but since happened on the drive) and the cambelt was changed about 1 year ago so it should not be belt noise. importantly, it does only make the sound once - when the car is then running, silence and perfection personified! the model child!!
  9. additionally, mine hisses for about 10secs after switching off the car. not really worried. have had the car about 1 year now and 10,000 miles so a re-gas on a 55 plate was prob. due in any case
  10. i posted about aircon/climotronic recently and the feedback received was good. it is simply that the superb has a very big interior but is only fitted with a passat aircon system. consequently the car will not feel as cool. my system was recently re-gassed and works adequately but the results are not spectacular. lo on the saab sportwagon - my previous car was like sweden in winter - the superb is adequate without being great.
  11. just had the air con re-gassed following a service - not running as cold as i would have hoped - does this kind of thing take time to kick in or am i being unfair comparing the aircon to that in my saab sportwagon - fast and ice cold - whereas the skoda drops to LO after 18 degrees. - ideas are gratefully received phil
  12. a second question possibly linked - let me know. car just back from service - all good - however engaging gear from park is trickier than it has been before. the gearstick is a bit of a wrestle .... any ideas or should i be concerned?
  13. has anyone had an issue with a 'sticky' auto gearlever button. it is a bit 'plasticcy' - no doubt something to do with the fact that it is plastic ...! and mine has begun to stick once in a while. just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and whether it is an easy fix/replacement cheers
  14. wondering if anyone has fitted one of these to the superb. i bought fitting kit 1 - as required - however the x fitting to the bottom of the boot is a non-starter when all of the other settings are set up as required. it is the three cycle carrier - it may well be that i am the spacca on this one. let me know - many thanks in advance phil

  16. how much? there are a few on autotrader usually and i am tempted to go up from my 1.9tdi elegance with the black leather. i love the black and cream combi - works well. often high mileage - £5.5k i think with 130k on the clock i seem to recall from a private seller ...
  17. you may have seen this in the superb thread however 2 is better than 1 2nd owner of this wonderful superb and coming up to 90k on a 55 plate - service due next week. starting to hear a high pitched shrieking noise - and it is not my wife on this occasion - coming from the front right wheel - or that region. it is a harsh/grinding metallic sound noise is emitted pretty much only when the car is just started up and when it is turning to the right. after 5 or so minutes on the road it seems to stop and poses no problem. my wife is generally using the car for commuting at the moment and she says that it has gotten worse this week however i had noticed it once or twice previously but just though 'let's leave it until the service' - now due in 500 miles. i suggested that my wife simply goes to and from work by turning left however she explained that this may well mean she is not home from work until after 8pm ..... and i thought this wheel brearing thing could be a problem ..... thanks for any ideas, as ever phil

  19. hey brad - the scout roomster is not in awd - just body kitted up to look at a bit macho and rugged - kind of like merv hughes running in and then dropping in some gentle long hops to bash to the boundary! a couple of aussies i have spoken to recently have suggested the personal import thing is dead in the water now. prices have weakened however it is a funny old market. £6k in the uk can get you a great car, $12k over there will get me an 8 year old kia sedona ... where is the sense in that. plus, aussie stuff looks like crap ...don't know about the performance. i can not wait to move across at the end of 2010 when we emigrate but i do not relish my first trip down to the car dealerships. my heart saying take something with me - my 2006 superb elegance (or a 5 year old passat/3 series tourer/A4 avant) but my head (and my wife) telling me that it is just a car. so i am destined to miss fine german beer, wonderful german cars, beautiful castles and forests - to be replaced with castlemaine, a mitsubishi magna and rugby in suncorp ....
  20. looks gorgeous - enjoy it! very jealous
  21. had my superb tdi 130 tiptronic (55 plate) since october and been trouble free - bought it at 78k with cambelt service just done. service indicator now telling me that 500 miles from service (assume that it is on a 10,000 interval - as car stands at 87,500!) anyone out there keen to let me know what will be done at the next service. i am english living in germany and not looking to be fleeced by the local garage - not a franchised dealer but a nice bloke who speaks english and my german, though adequate is not sufficietly good to talk motors and parts (the key to successfully fleecing the military communuity over since ww2!!!! i think it is simply filters, fluids etc but looking for confirmation - re-gas on the aircon may well be needed i think - not as icy as it could be. thanks in anticipation phil
  22. my guess is the motorway - what cabbie would have an octy in laurent and klement - see milesabove.co.uk looks great
  23. thanks a lot - so if it is a tiptronic - how does it tow? the ad is obviously wrong, the car, as you say is petrol!
  24. not read the other threads as yet - i am in your boat. there are a couple of aussie dealers around brissy, the gold coast and up on the sunny coast too! they are loving the scout versions of both the octy and the roomster- but i think the roomster is a bit more of a niche car. there are plenty over here in germany not sure about the values business. cars in the uk are dirt cheap at the moment - check out the octy prices on Used Cars & New Cars for Sale | Car Sales | Car Reviews | www.drive.com.au and you will see just how mega the price differentials are. let me know what you are getting quoted on shipping charges over there and then look at the registration and tax costs associated with the car as an imported vehicle. i drive the mark 1 superb and i am trying to decide whether to take it ... the other thing - have you owned the car for a full year. this is another stipulation for import. residuals on imported cars are not great - i think that is the same globally. my wife has just sold her hyundai siii coupe which was first registered on german plates (as a military demonstrator car for german tax free sales, right hand drive) at a discounted rate in the uk - no pink log book the prob in spite of it having 3 years uk warranty left if you can- take it, take it. take it!!!!
  25. a no brainer! cc is fabulous and is essential for anyone who spends time on the motorway (or autobahn over here!) - do it!
