  1. I'm certainly a lot more confident on the corners and roundabouts have become more of a enjoyable challenge as it really does hang onto the road without any hint of understeer. I've actually found that giving it more gas on tight bends makes it dig in harder
  2. oops.....there might have been wee smudge on it...lol:rolleyes: pics should be clear from now on
  3. Thanks chaps, I'll sort some interior pics for you later today Simon. Dunno what it is about my camera, it's a samsung digimac d103 10.1megapixel job so should be very good. All my pics seem to have a hazey quality, I must have something wrong with the settings.
  4. Couldn't work out how to make the pics appear automatically....tried a few times and failed...lol http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z161/andydominick2000/S1031127.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z161/andydominick2000/S1031124.jpg http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z161/andydominick2000/S1031126.jpg
  5. Had the Octavia for 7 months and it's been a cracking car with no problems whatsoever. I put it on pistonheads for a bit of a feeling of what I might acheive with it and I was offered my full asking price after 10 days, I really couldn't refuse, this is one of the few cars I've had were I haven't been left out of pocket. Anyway I replaced it with an Audi A4 Sline special edition quattro Avant in Black, it has a Bose stereo system, two tone leather seats, 18" DTM alloy wheels and the uprated anchors, the special edition also runs at 220bhp standard, absolutely beautiful car which oozes quality and drives impeccably, it's not any faster than the 2.0t 200bhp vrs I had although the books say it should be but it corners like nothing I've driven before. I've not posted pics as I know they are not everyones cup of tea, if anyones interested I will put one or two up. Thanks for all the help and advice over the last months guys, it's really been appreciated.
  6. Not an offence in itself, might call into question the manner of driving and give them a reason to pull you in to check your not on the sauce as lane discipline is usually a good pointer to drink/drugs drivers or folk on their phones.
  7. Seems like an incredibly strong remap, I think other guys are achieving 230-240bhp.
  8. I've been to one in Glasgow twice and been completely ignored by the woman behind the main desk. She looked up at me then looked away and continued shuffling her bits of paper the first time. The second time I stood directly in front of where she was sitting and waited on a "can I help you", it never came she just completely blanked me. Eventually a embarrassed looking salesman came over and asked if he could help, I'm not using Henrys again and from now on will be using a VW dealer for my service/repairs. No way they are getting my money again.
  9. Might be worth trying Avon Naturals fabric and linen freshener. very nice smell, lasts a good while and comes in a small pump action spray, designed to go on fabrics etc so wont mark the seats and the smell lasts for ages. Just gave mine another squirt of the mango one the wife uses for the ironing...dunno what it costs but I'm guessing about a pouind as the missus is a tightarse...lol
  10. It's the only option for me as I've heard lots of positive reviews about them also they're local...ish to me, the next closest tuner is Drivers in Glasgow and they don't do any tuning below 400 quid for the tfsi iirc. Just needing to get a CAI sneakily fitted to the car without SWMBO knowing before the remap to help things along a little:D
  11. I'm not even sure the fixed ones have to be visible, I think they were made more visible to aid road safety in that if people see them then they act as a deterent to speeding. Speed guns carried by the police are normaly set up in areas where there has complaints from residents, councilors or folk concerned about cars travelling at excessive speeds. Sometimes these are high profile to bolster public confidence, sometimes not if they are trying to curb a problem with boy racers using the roads as a drag strip. Either way keep yer eyes peeled and if you get pulled just admit it if you went a few miles per hour over the limit, most cops will send you on your way with a warning if you've been no more than 10mph over the limit. Sometimes they come down harder on guys with halfords bits stuck all over their cars and who have done their best to draw attention to themselves with loud zorsts and the stereo boomin etc.
  12. I'm also very interested in this topic, good thread to get going as it saves a hell of a lot of time trawling through various forums/posts etc. I have heard nothing but praise for Star performance and if I could stretch to their price rather than Celtic or Angel tuning I would.
  13. "you can't be serious man" Got to be John Mckinroe
  14. Just spent the last hour reading reviews and info on bluefin and it looks great!.. Just need to keep an ear to the fround for discounts on any of the VAG forums or at superchips themselves. Not had enough time to trawl through it all as I start work at 9pm, I will be back onto it tomorrow though. thanks Simon:thumbup:
  15. what does stage two mapping entail? I take it there are further mods required to safely have it done?
  16. If I can pick up a reasonably priced induction kit I will probably buy it and stick it on when I get a day off work and the sun is out. The cat back exhaust would be nice, especially if I had the induction kit fitted and then when for a live remap on the rollers as this might give a bit more versatility for the mapper. My head is minced thinking about this...lol
  17. I kinda know what you mean, seen a few differing opinions with both Celtic and Angel tuning but they seem to be a lot less expensive than the mainstream VAG mapping companies and their products to a layman seem not to dissimilar. Jabba, star performance and drivers are at least double the price and I'm kinda of the opinion that I can't justify paying for them unless there is a real performance/reliability gain to be had.
  18. what can 1k do for the performance od an Octy II vrs TFSI? I'm pretty confident SWMBO is in a good mood this week so might be the time to broach the subject of me spending money on the car. I know I can get an Angel remap for 215 pounds or a Celtic tuning one for about 250 pounds. These are a lot cheaper than going to get a Revo or Bluefin done. and seem to give quite a lot of bang per buck. I also need it lowered 20-30mm as it seems to sit just a bit high even on the 18s' Dunno if the aftermarket induction kits are my thing as I prefer the OEM look but I'd be tempted with a 2nd hand one to try out after the remap. To recap, if you started with a grand and spent 250 on a remap, what further mods would you do with the other 750 pounds:)
  19. I get a bit less mpg with Tesco super compared to bp Ultimate, my nearest v-power forecourt is 20 miles away in a direction I never travel so that's out for me. If I remember correctly I've seen about 20-30 miles better of with BP fuel than tesco but it is a bit pricey. Also feel like the car is a bit happier with BP but that might just be the placebo effect. I used to run a Audi A4 1.9TDI 130bhp Sport and done a 50 mile commute each day, I did pass the Shell forecourt daily and found I got better mpg with v-power and the car was noticably more responsive
  20. Good write up and some very valid stuff for the rest of us to take on board. I feel the MKII vrs isn't built on a budget as far as the mech and tech equipment are concerned, it's just some of the finishing touches such as the plastic door trims which feel like tupperware that let it down. sounds like you had a fantastic time, you could only imagine how jealous I'm feeling right now:)
  21. am I right in saying 166 dollars and 70 dollars for shipping? works out quite a bit.
  22. Went for my first MOT today in my MKII petrol Vrs. Wasn't quite sure what to expect is it's been a few years since having to MOT a car. It all went very well indeed. Passed first time, all the green boxes ticked with no advisories:cool: that's me happy for another year, just got to go and tax it tomorrow
  23. I'm just not that keen! Don't get me wrong it's nice, it just seems to have lost something, I think the basic shape of the MKII is a strong angular look which makes it look very sharp and European. It now seems a bit more jelly mould at the front and isn't too far from the Lexus GS300 look with the softer lines, wrap around headlights which are a bit big. Seen a new style fabia estate today for the first time, wasn't sure exactky what it was untill I read the badging, again it seems to have got the Jap/korean look with hints of Hyundai and kia. It was a low spec model, I'm assuming the vrs is looking a bit more aggressive as it just looked a bit girly. Hope no one takes offence at my comments, as always the more I see a new model the more I'll come round to it....just not sure about these though!
  24. Carrying on from the above thread, you'd think they would have engineered a small reserve that couldn't be drained for just this reason or a simple cut out switch once the car is down to 0.5l or something.
