  1. Mystery solved, grajay I believe you are looking at the final statement regarding engine oil repeated here; If the above engine oils are not available, a different engine oil can be used in an emergency. To prevent damage to the engine, a maximum of 0.5 litres only of the following engine oils may be used: ■ For petrol engine models: ACEA A3/ACEA B4 or API SN, (API SM); ■ For diesel engine models: ACEA C3 or API CJ-4. The previous page lists the correct vw specifications.
  2. If you look again at my post # 8 you will see that I was reinforcing the point made by Offski. It would be madness to take any car that had been standing for idle for a few years and just drive away expecting to get another 2 years on variable service from the original oil. The oil in the idle car has not been kept in anywhere near ideal conditions and needs to be changed before putting the car to use. All the synthetic oil manufacturers that I know of give 5 years as the recommended shelf life, so that 5 years would be vastly reduced in this example of an idle car being put to use. I am in no way knocking synthetic oils, they are sophisticated pieces of engineering - the best thing since sliced bread as far as I am concerned
  3. If you google 'shelf life synthetic oil' there is masses of info.
  4. I was thinking a Chinese / Indian or similar, translation
  5. The VAG system for warning lights is; Red: you should stop the car as soon as it's safe. Yellow: action is required. Green:for information only. With our 1.8tsi It was intermittent, we called it 'the helicopter light'. Fitting a new oxygen sensor, also called Lambda Sensor, in the exhaust system cured it in our case. The garage may say just continue driving until we have time to fix. [it should be their decision, to cover you]
  6. From the 2015 manual; Vehicles with variable service intervals Petrol engines Specification 1.2 l/81 kW TSI 1.4 l/92, 110 kW TSI VW 504 00 Vehicles with fixed service intervals Petrol engines Specification 1.2 l/81 kW TSI 1.4 l/92, 110 kW TSI VW 502 00 1.6 l./81 kW MPI Are you perhaps looking at a non UK manual?
  7. If you ask nicely, can they not offer a courtesy car? It is not your fault they have messed up! Generally I have always found Scandinavians very reasonable people. Good Luck, and Happy New Year.
  8. The safest date to zero from would be the build date. Synthetic oils have a limited shelf life - too old and they become unstable. Not good for a turbo
  9. Absolutely. On the M6 and A74M I have just about given up on using CC. These are the same idiots that pass, then ease off. and pull across the bonnet of our car, leaving a gap of 2 or 3 car lengths. At 70 mph that is way too small a safety envelope. I think it would improve road safety significantly if we all [ including me ] had to retake our driving test every 5 yrs or so. I believe the general standard of driving is falling, Cars are getting increasingly clever - sadly the drivers are not. :notme:
  10. Interesting that the Ateca has the skinny spare wheel - makes a lot of sense.
  11. This is from Auto Bild re; the Ateca 'The other petrol engine will be the 1.4 TSI of 158 hp, with manual or automatic transmission, and available in 4x2 and 4x4 traction. The all-wheel-drive versions and the DSG change will be optional'. Once again, the UK importers can not be bothered with petrol motors. If you do not want a diesel motor you have very limited choice. Why?
  12. Over the last 18yrs we have purchased 4 new VAG cars and specified long-life oil from the factory. We have followed the 'oil change due' indication and always used long-life oil. 2 of these cars had the 1.8tsi engine. The first had the elastomer cam belt and the other the chain, both ran well for 100k hard mls before being sold on. None of these engines suffered any mechanical damage or excessive oil use. Were we just lucky, who knows? Guess which oil type we will continue to use? You pay your money – you make the choice.
  13. The output from a battery falls off sharply at low temperature. I would guess that is one reason for the felt type insulation. Help to reduce the cold winter effect, and also reduce any high under-bonnet temperature effect. My old Jaguar had its own thermostatically controlled cooling fan on the battery box. Batteries have come on a lot since then.
  14. Hi Paul. If you google 'reset yeti mirrors' you will find some earlier discussions. It is corrected by resetting the windows closing by your remote basically. Hope that fixes it for you.
