  1. Sigh. People: these units are STOLEN. Over on the mainland (where are the Polish and other Eastern-European car-thieves operate) it's a real plague... Please don't buy these "refurbished" units as they keep the market of stolen goods going. Thanks...
  2. Sigh. Why do I find this thread AFTER buying a Hero? EDIT: please vote for this "enhancement" here (click the star at the top left): http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4402
  3. Huh? How sure are you of this? I can't get Android to work at all on my Columbus... As far as I know, the Hero (or any other Android phone for that matter) does not have rSAP on its bluetooth stack, thus not enabling proper Columbus integration? Or am I missing something here? EDIT: err, perhaps I must say that I drive a Superb II, with the factory-fitted BT-kit, which is perhaps different than BT-kits fitted to other models?
  4. Bump... :( I'm having this issue too (Superb TDI 140 DSG): from time to time (about 3 or 4 times a week), I briefly get the error described above. I noticed it does this whilst going quite slow, not when the engine is under a lot of stress or anything. Things I can check before I go to the dealer?
  5. This should give you a rough idea of real life figures: http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/overview/45-Skoda/400-Superb.html?fueltype=1&constyear_s=2008&constyear_e=2009&power_s=100&power_e=125 Unfortunately, my Superb (a TDI 140 with DSG) is on the last page with less than 30mpg... Having said that: I do drive lots of slow roads and tend to put my foot down.
  6. I'm assuming this is "custom made". Closest I cound find is this: Neuropol X Exp Italic : Style Details : MyFonts
  7. Here ya go: http://new.skoda-auto.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/Catalogue/SuperbCombi/SuperbCombiBrochure_0909.pdf Skoda Superb Combi presentatie Autojunk.nl That's a neat looking car indeed, I'm so jealous of the electric boot and keyless go!
  8. I'm pretty sure the police would be utterly useless in this matter indeed. I do - however - suspect that your local Skoda dealer could look up the rightful owner if prompted to do so. At least, that's what my dealer told me after I was getting a little scared about my Columbus being nicked... And I also do get why you're not going that route either. I guess you can call it human nature... (which doesn't make it right, of course) The sad thing is: people on this forum will now probably steer clear of these units, yet the sellers will have no trouble selling their units, as there will always be people not interesting, not caring. Again, human nature...
  9. So much for the "refurbished units" theory eh... :rotz: I'm sorry, but there are a couple of peeps on here who think that by telling themselves they are not stolen units, it's ok to buy one at a discount. we all know why they're so cheap... I pretty much agree with gadgetman and I simply know most of you do too, until a "bargain" comes round and you end up buying one. If I were you guys, I'd report the seller asap, which would include - unfortunately - you turning in your unit and waving goodbye to your money spent. Perhaps the rightful owner could be tracked?
  10. This works like a charm. Well, not that charming as my voice controlled bluetooth kit still asks me for input (with a nice "Pardon?" after the chime ), but when I cancel the voice control, the DVD resumes playback, even when driving... Note though: you cannot touch anything whilst driving (e.g. volume, airco, etc.), seeing the "Tone" screen will then pop up. A little annoying, but for a hack it isn't that bad!
  11. Let's see... All of the options and whether or not I find them worthwhile in hindsight: First, the actual options (not included in "my" (Belgian) Elegance spec, nor in the "Company" pack (Belgian option for lease drivers)): - DSG: best. option. ever. pure bliss. - sports suspension (lowered and a bit stiffer): great option, makes the car more dynamic (which I like) - sound system: mixed feelings about this one... as I enjoy music with (lots of) bass, this probably wasn't all that worthwhile (had to add a subwoofer myself to get semi-good results). yet it was dirt cheap, so I don't really regret it as it's great for watching DVD's and such - flappy (DSG) paddles behind the steering wheel: a true waste of money, almost never use them - bluetooth car kit: great option if your phone is compatible. mine is, so I'd highly recommend it - hill hold: neutral on this one. to be honest: i added this just because my lease budget could take it... wouldn't have taken it otherwise. perhaps if you live in a place with really steep hills? Then there's the "Company" pack: - Columbus: great piece of kit, yet way overpriced. if it were my own money, I would have opted for an aftermarket unit - auto-dimming mirrors: not a must-have. I have driven other cars for years without these and it hasn't really bothered me too much - heated rear seats: well... the rear seats are heated now... umm... yeah, that's about it. couldn't care less, seeing I'm the one driving, but OK... - parking assist: a cool feature to show off to your mates! and all the silliness aside: it really works, so I find myself using it quite often, to be honest! Things I would have taken should my budget have allowed it: - bigger engine... the 140 PD is fine, but the 170 CR is indeed better - solar roof... I simply HATE getting into my car after it has been in the sun the whole day That about covers it, I guess?
  12. Err... You must be about the first person complaining about VW's DSG... Perhaps you were in the wrong mode and using the gas pedal in a wrong way? The "D" for normal driving does indeed try to go to the highest possible gear, but is in no way "jerky" (on the contrary, it almost makes the car react slow in certain conditions). Using "S" for "sporty" driving will not put you in a high gear, but it will make your car a little "jerky" (read: nervous) in traffic indeed, as it will switch back to first gear regularly! I'm pretty sure you just need to learn to drive with the DSG, as there is no way in hell you can drive better using a manual... YouTube - DSG vs 6spd manual
  13. Slightly off-topic, but I can confirm that. I have the paddles and have used them about... err... five times, four of which were just for fun and play. Not worth its money, the DSG itself works like a charm!
  14. FWIW: I burned mine on a CD-R (TDK) at 8 speed using Alcohol 120% and it worked like a charm. Have a factory-fitted Columbus though.
  15. A bit off-topic and I already said so in the thread about RNS-510 units on eBay, but: OF COURSE THOSE ARE STOLEN ! IMHO: buying a Columbus off eBay for as little as £500 (sometimes even less), is almost as bad as stealing one yourself. These get stolen by the bunch, and I bet noone would like it if theirs got stolen, right? :rotz: Anyway. I upgraded my unit yesterday and with great success. Two things slightly bother me though: 1) the displayed max. speed isn't very accurate. I know VW/Skoda can't help this, seeing this is map-data, but still: not very reliable at all ! 2) the voice-control does not work out of the box (yes, I have the BT unit). apparently, you need to fix a couple of things through the can bus first Having said that: great update!
  16. Same here (Belgium). I actually liked the alu look better, but simply refused to pay extra to get a trim from a lower spec version! Outrageous IMHO.
  17. You must be either rich or bonkers to buy a car with such engine in a diesel-minded country like Belgium... I'm afraid this has been discussed many times before, also by myself. I too (usually) listen to music with a lot of bass and find that the upgraded Sound System of the Superb is very lacking in this aspect. The cause is simple: there is no subwoofer to take care of the bass. To make things worse, the Columbus does not have a pre-out to hook up a subwoofer. Basicly, I added a subwoofer in the boot, tapping off sound from the rear speakers (line-in). The sound is somewhat better now, but seeing the bass still goes to all speakers too (because of the missing pre-out), they still rattle at higher volumes. Luckily the sub produces quite a kick, so these rattles are less obvious. The next step would be to add a filter or simply swap the Columbus for another headunit. But then again, you would be losing alot of functionality... :( More info: http://briskoda.net/superb-ii/upgraded-sound-system-not-performing-very-well/143077/
  18. Ditto. During my trip through France, the TMC/Columbus warned me multiple times of traffic jams causing delays over 10 hours (I kid you not), whilst there wasn't anything resembling a jam when we ignored the warning and eventually got to the point. If this had caused the Columbus to reroute us over local roads, I bet I would have cursed ALOT. Then again, I'm guessing this is a TMC-problem, not a Columbus one.
  19. The 3-spoke multifunctional one with "the flappy paddle gearbox"...
  20. I know how you feel... The Superb is the best car on the market if you look at it value for money-wise. There is no going around that, you would have to be a complete and utter idiot not to look at it, twice, before buying anything else (in that class). That's what makes your head hurt, because it is - unfortunately - not a car which moves you in any other way. Having said that: there isn't a good reason in the world why you would prefer a 320 above the Superb. Unless you're one of those "amateur-racing-drivers" who won't go for front wheel drive... The 320 is truly a tiny car and as value-for-money goes, it isn't all that brilliant. Yes, it still is German, but hey, guess what: so is the Skoda! I went for the Superb, after a lot of hard thinking, and I'll be brutally honest: best decision in years! I chose my previous car with my "heart": a (IMHO) stunning Alfa Romeo GT, and hated about 2 of the 4 years I drove in it. Yes, it looked good. Yes, it drove pretty well too. But in the end, it was an unreliable, tiny, crappy car. Do yourself a favor (especially when you have kids): go for the Superb, I guarantee you will not regret it. PS: the car looks even more spacious and luxurious with the ivory interior, here's mine: http://www.skodaforum.nl/board/album.php?albumid=190 PPS: if you're a fan of "sporty" driving, I can recommend the DSG and the lowered suspension...
  21. Same here: user-chosen company car and before I heard of the Superb, was looking (hard) at the Octavia Combi RS 170 2.0 TDI. But let's face it: this car is indeed overpriced compared to the Superb, especially when you're looking at lease price, where the Octy loses value dramatically as where the Superb holds it value more (not as much as a Beemer or Merc, but still). So you would have to be rather bonkers to go for the Octy. Then again, all cars more or less like the RS have the same problem, it's inherent to the type of vehicle.
  22. If you look closely, you'll see that tape is used to give it an "Octavia-look", probably to try and fool everyone...
